42 weekend box office

Sorry, Lindsay Lohan!

Even your toilet-clogging, crazy antics on the set of Scary Movie 5 couldn't generate it enough buzz to put it at the top of the box office for its opening weekend!

Instead, the distinct honor went to the critically-acclaimed Jackie Robinson bio-pic 42, when came in number one after making an estimated $27.3 million between Friday and today!

And that's pretty impressive in itself, seeing as the majority of movie-goers paying to see the flick were over the age of 25!

To be fair to Scary Movie 5, however, we're pretty sure everyone else below that age went to see the fifth installment of the horror movie parody franchise, as it managed to secure itself the #2 position, with $15.2 million.

Even that, however, wasn't enough to make back its production cost of $19.5 million! OUCH!

But you can see what over movies manage to fill out the rest of this weekend's box office top ten…AFTER THE JUMP!!!

1. “42″ – $27.3m
2. “Scary Movie 5″ – $15.2m
3. “The Croods” – $13.2m
4. “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” – $10.8m
5. “Evil Dead” – $9.5m
6. “Jurassic Park 3D” – $8.8m
7. “Olympus Has Fallen” – $7.3m
8. “Oz the Great and Powerful” – $4.9m
9. “Tyler Perry’s Temptation” – $4.5m
10. “The Place Beyond the Pines” – $4.1m

must be a slow week, usually 27 million is a loser. I heard david letterman say that every man woman and child should be MADE to watch this movie. We are huge baseball fans so that just made us stay home.

Perez. It's not even the end of the weekend and it's already make back the MAJORITY of it's budget. I know the movie is probably terrible, but it certainly isn't a failure ("ouch?").
Save the dramatics for another Amanda Bynes post.

If you condemned every film that didn't recoup its production budget within the first weekend, you'd literally be condemning every single movie. I never thought I'd be defending this movie, but you obviously don't know how the film business works so please refrain from your reporting of it if you're just going to make yourself look like a fool in the process anyway. What kind of grown man thinks movies make up their production budget within the first weekend?

Ahh good to see you finding ways to put her down again, opening weekend and it made back most of what it cost. It should get a few more weeks yet and will pass that easy, then ofc the dvd and blue-ray, tv….etc. You really are quite rubbish at twisting facts.

Wat a dumbass! Very few movies recover there production budget in the FIRST weekend. And no movie is declared a flop unless and until a month or so later if the movie was unable to recover its production cost. Many classic movies which went onto become huge hits recovered their production cost in a few weeks or so, so shut the fuck up and stop twisting stories to bring ppl down.

Thanks Perez, I had not heard about 42, sounds like a real good movie. Jackie Robinson was a bit before my time, ancient as I am. I can barely remember when the Dodgers moved to LA from Brooklyn.
    No plans to watch SM5.

You fucking idiot. Talking profits. Completely missing the pint that SM5 WILL be profitable. You really are stooopid Perez. And gross to look at. And you sound like a stammering amateur. LOSER!

    Dear Perez,

You are truly a moron for soooooooooooooooo many reasons. But your ridiculously flawed attempts at box office analysis are hilarious. Scary Movie V is a HORRIBLE movie but it is going to be PROFITABLE. You fucking imbecile.

That was the most stupid thing I've read today. You think movies are meant to make the entire production budget in opening weekend? Are you that desperate to defame Lindsey? She's currently in a #2 movie. The movie is bound to be absolutely shit, but it looks like it will definitely be profitable. My god Perez… You're posts are getting fucking weird lately. PS - Wash you're greasy hair.

I saw this movie last night. It was shit, but I still enjoyed it. I don't go to the cinema much so it was just nice to get out and see a film really :D
