Gabby Giffords BLASTS The Senators Who Voted Against Gun Bill; Calls Them All Cowards!

obama gabby giffords nra gun bill

President Obama called it a shameful day in Washington when the Senate voted against a modest gun bill that would increase the level of background checks needed to purchase firearms.

Even though 90% of the American people supported it, the Senate DENIED the bill that could prevent future acts of horror and massacres. They DENIED 90% of the nation they work for!!!

And needless to say, survivor Gabby Giffords is none too pleased about it either!

In a brutally honest piece she wrote into the New York Times, she calls the "cowards" out:

"Senators say they fear the N.R.A. and the gun lobby. But I think that fear must be nothing compared to the fear the first graders in Sandy Hook Elementary School felt as their lives ended in a hail of bullets. The fear that those children who survived the massacre must feel every time they remember their teachers stacking them into closets and bathrooms, whispering that they loved them, so that love would be the last thing the students heard if the gunman found them.

On Wednesday, a minority of senators gave into fear and blocked common-sense legislation that would have made it harder for criminals and people with dangerous mental illnesses to get hold of deadly firearms — a bill that could prevent future tragedies like those in Newtown, Conn., Aurora, Colo., Blacksburg, Va., and too many communities to count.

Some of the senators who voted against the background-check amendments have met with grieving parents whose children were murdered at Sandy Hook, in Newtown. Some of the senators who voted no have also looked into my eyes as I talked about my experience being shot in the head at point-blank range in suburban Tucson two years ago, and expressed sympathy for the 18 other people shot besides me, 6 of whom died. These senators have heard from their constituents — who polls show overwhelmingly favored expanding background checks. And still these senators decided to do nothing. Shame on them."

She continues to drive the point home by rebutting the arguments she knows will aid in their cowardice:

"I watch TV and read the papers like everyone else. We know what we’re going to hear: vague platitudes like 'tough vote' and 'complicated issue.' I was elected six times to represent southern Arizona, in the State Legislature and then in Congress. I know what a complicated issue is; I know what it feels like to take a tough vote. This was neither. These senators made their decision based on political fear and on cold calculations about the money of special interests like the National Rifle Association, which in the last election cycle spent around $25 million on contributions, lobbying and outside spending."

And so, since the Senate obviously can't fulfill America's will, she calls the people to action:

"I am asking every reasonable American to help me tell the truth about the cowardice these senators demonstrated. I am asking for mothers to stop these lawmakers at the grocery store and tell them: You’ve lost my vote. I am asking activists to unsubscribe from these senators’ e-mail lists and to stop giving them money. I’m asking citizens to go to their offices and say: You’ve disappointed me, and there will be consequences."

Yeah!!! You tell 'em, Gabs!!!

Screw this being scared shizz! The senate needs a big fat reminder of that, so everyone — make sure you take her last piece of advice there and let 'em know it!!!

Stricter gun laws will do nothing. Taking away guns will do nothing. Just look at the war on drugs you want something you can get it.

Most all anti-gun spokespeople in Senate, Congress, The House + NYC mayor are all Jewish. Just sayin'! Feinstein, Bloomberg, Emanuel, Giffords, and on and on and on… but of course the RepubliCANTs in the end want all the guns as well.

The U.S. is a sick country where people will cling to their guns no matter what while their children die. The biggest mental health issue in the U.S. is the lust for guns.

Re: Jeff – Dumb logic. So just throw up your hands and make it easier for people to get guns? Sick!

@Jeff - - THAT IS SUCH BULL SHIT AND YOU FREAKING KNOW IT. I'm so sick and tired of you fools saying the stricter gun laws won't make a difference. We don't know because we have never done it, and it sure wouldn’t hurt to find out. Something has to be done because the current practices are not working. No one wants to take away the 2nd amendment. Start being a solution to the problem, instead of blocking the problem and stop kissing the NRA’s ass.

That HALF-BRAIN TOSSED SALAD VEGGIE GABBY left hundreds of thousands on veterans homeless & living under bridges all across the nation…

Will someone PLEASE mop up the TRAIL OF DROOL Gabby is leaving behind;…we don't want anyone to SLIP ON IT!

  7. 7

Has Half-Brain Veggie Gabby's husband Mark came out of the closet yet?

Re: Jeff – So your answer is to do nothing? It is a huge problem that will take at least a generation before we see improvement. IT is the gun culture of our society that has to change and it will only change slowly and by small degrees. This legislation would have been a step in the right direction.

If 11 Million ILLEGAL Mexicans can get into this country and not obey our laws
I'M guessing at least 100 Million ILLEGAL guns can make it into this country and not obey our laws
Enforce the laws on the books, we don't need more

Re: Jeff – Agreed. Again, NOTHING in that legislation would have prevented Newtown. This is just politics at its worst. If Obama really wanted to deal with the issue, he would start discussions re mental illness, break down of families, the drug culture, glorification of violence in our society and complete disregard for human life as evidenced by Gosnell (and I'm pro-choice btw). He should talk about violence in Chicago his home town. We have serious societal problems that must be addressed. This leglistlation was puff…..

Seriously what crazy mad man who is planning on killing people every sat down and thought hmmmm this is illegal I dont want to get in trouble maybe I shouldnt do this? If someone is that sick to do something like that do u think they care about the law? NO, come one people wake up. Drugs are illegal and lets be honest we all see how well that fight is going. Maybe we should be more worried about the Mental Health system in this country that would rather wait for the crazy person to kill people. Than take actions before a tragedy happens. If there is a drunk person about to get into a car we stop him bc he could hurt someone. If a obvious mentally unstable person does something we dont want to infringe on their rights bc technically they havent done anything yet. Seriously wake up people! Inanimate objects cant kill but people who are sick and crazy can.

Re: Jeff – So your answer is to do nothing? Action has to happen, and 90% of the American population agrees. Whether this legislation would have worked or not, it is a step towards CHANGE. A change we clearly need, considering the events that keep on happening over and over again. Certain small things have to be given up for the safety of our society.

    @Mrs.Momoa
Actually that isnt correct it wasnt until early 2000 that the ban that was already in place for assault weapons was lifted. If you had actually done any research what so ever instead of just watching TV you would have know that while the ban was in place. The government said that they couldnt see any difference in gun violence while the ban was in place. And please Google it if you dont believe me. Basically bad people are going to do bad things regardless of what the law says.

I honestly don't understand why people can't meet in the middle, increasing background checks just seems like the obvious amd sensible answer, will it work who knows but you have to try. Yes illegal guns wil always ne available, but if you do and change nothing yur just rolling over and letting them win. Very surprised at this.

    17

Try enforcing the laws we already have. Look at Chicago. Strictest gun laws in the country yet the most violent city we have.

  18. 18

gabby giffords can he horse shit and die. who cares what she thinks.

    19

We also have been medicating children who's bodies have not yet developed. Been doing this for decades. That might seriously have something to do with the mental problems. Anyone ever look into that?

Nothing is going to change with the stranglehold the NRA has on our government. I'm guessing there are going to be some hefty campaign donations made on their behalf!!

  23. Seriously. says – reply to this

    23

How are strict gun laws working in Chicago?

  24. 24

NOt sure if stricter gun laws will even work. Why? Because what happened in Sandy Hook was perpetrated by a white rich kid with a delusional mother who thought that by teaching her son how to shoot a gun he would be more social. Most of these shootings Sandy Hook, Columbine, the Aurora theater were done by white kids that have a clean record and endless supplies of guns by people they know.

Gabby is correct, they are cowards and much worse. This is blatant Obama hating. The Republican party strongly influenced by John Boehner and Mitch McConnell is on a hate campaign to block anything President Obama tries to do. Boner and McConnell are disgusting back room schemers.
Shame on these Republican haters who would ignore the will of the people for partisan and personal motives!
Cure the hate, support our President. Allow our President to initiate his policies without haters scheming against him personally. Boehner and McConnell must be voted out of office.

Re: caroislovee – change!!! What a joke! I have had enough garbage spewed from the libs thank you very much! God bless those brave senators who voted no. I know who to send money to in 2014. Its the ignorant liberals who worry about the next american idol and the stupid celebrities that tear this country apart. Just try taking my guns away!

  27. 27

Re: Mrs. Momoa – Most of you don't actually know what the cause of gun violence is. Having a gun or easy access to a gun does not magically make someone want to kill. We have 20,000 laws on the books regarding firearms. Making guns harder to get won't really solve the problem, considering that isn't the problem. It's just the tool used, what you should be questioning is "why" in the first place. It's socioeconomic factors. It's been proven true for every country in the world that poverty = poor education, poverty + poor education = High crime. The war on drugs is also our biggest factor. 75% of our gun violence is gang related violence. 60% is from people who already have criminal records and 20% is from illegally obtained firearms. You have gang bangers shooting other gang bangers of drug turf, to sell their illegal drugs since that is their #1 source of income, allowing them to buy illegally obtained guns.
