Iron Man 3 CRUSHES At Midnight Box Office!

iron man 3 box office

After midnight, fans let it all hang out. And by it, we mean all the money in their pockets.

After a heroic press tour by Robert Downey, Jr., Iron Man 3 had a super-sized midnight premiere, taking in an estimated $15.6 million overnight.

The midnight numbers mark a franchise record, more than doubling Iron Man 2's numbers and dwarfing the original's $1.5 mil.

This brings the film's international box office earnings to $361 million, and the U.S. is just getting started!

The flick is expected to remain invincible through the weekend and hit somewhere around $150 MILLION!

Wondering where this display of power ranks amongst the other blockbusters of recent years? If those estimates are right, IM3 will be lucky number 13.

I liked the 1st two, but this one was slow & the end was awful.

  2. 2

The film is slammed by the critics.

I saw this last night. Fell asleep in the middle. Picked up somewhat at the very end but god this movie had a lot of jokes that didn't fit, and the plot line was all over the place. Not enough Iron man with Downey. Disappointed with the villain arch (no spoilers here). The movie was more 'Downey spitting out his quick wit BS try to make you laugh out loud' which is fine… but not enough of him in the suit. But agin this is supposed to be a darker film. Of course the best parts for me are Tony's new technology, which from my point of view is the reason to see the film. 2 1/2 stars.

Re: overthere – Depends who you like to listen to. Over the years I developed a list of critics whose opinion I respected and others who I did not. For example, I often did not agree with the former LA Times critic Kenneth Turan, but when I saw a movie where he pointed out the weak story or direction or whatever, I was usually forced to agree. Still disagree with him about Titanic, though.
