John McCain Wants To Give Everyone The Cable Channels They Want! Legally!

john mccain introduces cable tv busting bill

John McCain is complaining about the TV again- too many darn channels!

Only this time the Arizona Senator is complaining on the Senate floor! He's introducing a bill called the TV Consumer Freedom Act of 2013.

The bill would force cable providers to sell packages of "à la carte" channels- in other words, custom packages designed by the consumer! He says:

"There’s an awful lot of people who don’t consume [200 channels], and most of us would like to look for creative solutions.

This is unfair and wrong — especially when you consider how the regulatory deck is stacked in favor of industry and against the American consumer."

It's almost like the septuagenarian has never heard of bit torrents… LOLz!

We joke, but this is the way to fight TV piracy! When people can pay a reasonable rate for JUST the channels they'll actually watch, maybe they'll stop illegally watching Game Of Thrones so darn much!

In the long run, this could actually help cable companies by re-capturing young people- who are accustomed to getting what they want when they want on the Internet.

John McCain is my TV hero. It seriously sucks that the 3 good channels you want are in the highest package and you're left with stupid extra channels. Cable has been doing this for years. If you can pick and choose what you want a la carte for phone service why not cable?

This is a great idea. If only he thought so logically on other issues. Speaking of, don't they have more important things to discuss than TV? We're not Canada… crazy shit is going down here! (Oh to be Canadian!)

This is great news! Poor liberal news will lose big time. haha. Fox News will have a pretty decent amount of people sign up for it, but MSNBC will have about 5 people.

I actually agree with one of McCain's ideas? I didn't think that was possible.

Re: misscheriamor – As a Canadian, I have to say…life is sadly not that simple here. Mainly because we have an ass as Prime Minister. Although I am happy to not have the list of problems the States has…

    That's a wonderful idea
Have the customer pay for what they want to use, freedom of choice
Now lets do the same with ObamaCare, have the customer pay for what THEY want to use

Not a huge fan of McCain, but I had to give up all my premium channels to get BILL MAHER, you couldn't cancel HBO they bundle everything. so after the third of fourth time I called Comcast and cancelled it all. they were shocked. I don't want Bill Maher and I put my money where my mouth was. truth is, dont really miss it.

Perez, help this dude make this happen. I got like 7 ESPN channels I don't watch just so I can have IFC.

This is potentially the best republican idea in a LONG time. lol Letting people pick their programming will change things forever. It would eliminate A LOT of garbage TV. There should be some kind of "bargaining" like in the "Republican Bargaining" portions of . I just hope we don't have to give up anything for this to happen. lol

Re: shaygirl1309 – You do understand his salary is not tied to his ratings, right? You really showed that filthy lib. Did you say you were canceling because Bill Maher hurt your precious feelings. The person from Comcast was probably shocked because you sounded like a fuckin lunatic.

I think this is a great idea, I only want basic channels plus maybe CNN and ESPN. When I wanted to downgrade my Directv package, the cheapest one available was the Family Package which does not include some stuff I want to watch once in awhile. Oh well.
