minnesota legalizes same sex marriage 12th state yay

Woo hoo!

Minnesota State Senators warmed our hearts today by passing a measure allowing same-sex couples to marry!

The Land of 10,000 Lakes lawmakers voted 37 to 30 in favor, and the Governor is expected to sign it into law tomorrow!! Better late than never!!

State Senator John Marty, a democrat, was pleased as punch by the result.

He said:

“These families deserve the same rights and recognitions that we do. It’s finally happening."

We agree 100% and we couldn't be more thrilled!!

Minnesota, the birth place of Prince, becomes the 12th state in the Union to take this grand step toward LGBT equality!

Now everyone can purify themselves in the waters of Lake Minnetonka regardless of sexual orientation, LOLz!!

Twelve states down, 38 to go!!

Yay Minnesota! (I guess this proves Michele Bachmann isn't representative of the whole state . . . ) Here's a musical celebration of this great accomplishment (while admitting that it's a little embarrassing for us in California . . . . )

If a state makes it legal, does that entitle them to federal benefits? If anyone knows the answer, let me know.

Re: karen – No, still not recognized for federal benefits.

Re: onefinn – Thanks for the answer. I'm going to assume you're gay by your choice of cookie. I don't understand why you guys are so happy about states legalizing marriage when you're still not going to get most of the benefits & you have to worry about feds taking away the few rights the states are giving you. This should be federal, 1 & done. If civil rights had been left to the states to decide in the 60's, black people wouldn't be served in a Mississippi McDonalds. Settle for nothing less.

AND, in a WIN, WIN for America, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn) told a local TV station that she would consider leaving the state if the gay marriage bill passed. Marcus however said he was staying behind to bring up the rear!!!

"Better late than never"……what exactly does that mean? There are only 11 other states allowing it. That mean only 12 out of 50. I would stay this is still "early".

Anyway, Yay Minnesota, one more step to equality for everyone!
