Angelina Jolie Covers TIME Magazine! Gorgeous & Perfect!

angelina jolie double mastectomy story covers time magazine

TIME Magazine may be a perennial periodical, but that doesn't mean it can't stay current!

The magazine is on its game this week, shifting whatever it had on deck around to focus on what everyone is talking about- Angelina Jolie's double mastectomy.

The venerated publication is approaching the issue not just in awe of Angie, as most of us are, but more specifically examining the ramifications of her decision.

The whole reason Angelina went public with her very private health issue was that she wanted to impact the way women were thinking about their own risk of breast and ovarian cancer- and it's working!

Forget the cover- give her Person Of The Year!

The print issue of TIME will hit newsstands on Friday.

LETS NOT forget that there are millions of women in the same situation on angelina and the press never cared. she wasnt sick yet. what she did was brave. but there are lots of strong women like her. i love strong women., independent women… angie is one of them. lets enjoy this powerful womn. to me Madonna and angie are strong. and there are many like strong women too. thats why o dislike ppl like gaga even more… fake people.

good grief, she didn't cure cancer.

Okay, I applaud her for taking those steps, which I'm certain were really difficult both psychologically and physically, but let's not get it twisted here. She is an incredibly rich woman who had every opportunity in the world to do this. She took preventative measures to keep from developing a disease, she didn't cure cancer, she didn't pay for X amount of women's cancer treatments, she saved herself (which no one can or should fault her for). If she wants to change the course of breast and ovarian cancer in this country, she should put her money where her mouth is. She has this huge platform and she's only using it for herself.

If you think she should be Person of the Year for this, you are delusional. If anyone deserves it, it's every single woman who has suffered or is suffering from this disease (famous or not), and every woman who took the same preventative measures she did.

What a horrifying decision to have to make.
But, then again, she has 6 kids.
I would have done the same thing.
But in an industry that places such huge importance upon appearence…especially a woman with all the pretty body parts, that had to give her pause. Sad to say, she may always be viewed as brave and intelligent, she will also be always be viewed as flawed in Hollywood.
Still, Given the choise, I'd rather be a 'flawed" Momma than a dead one.
Hollywood will just have to deal with it. One can buy boobs…..they do it all the time but one can't put a price on your Mom.

not understanding why this is national news?

  6. 6

"The whole reason Angelina went public with her very private health issue was that she wanted to impact the way women were thinking about their own risk of breast and ovarian cancer- and it's working! " —– her action will not change the way women were and will be thinking about it. What load of bullshit! Breast removal as preventative measure against breast cancer has been talked about (and implemented!) for years! Only the financially priviledged can afford it, though, and going on "public" about what she did for herself is rubbing it in for ALL the women who cannot afford it! Shame on her for this!

    You go girl!! :) xox

There comes a time when a passing interest in the personal lives of celebrities crosses into sad & twisted glorification and worship. Time magazine has just crossed that line.

  9. 9

Re: Babsy2 – Exactly. And what kind of nitwit who's facing a medical issue ignores professional medical advice to stop and think "what would my favorite celebrity do?"

  10. 10

OMG from dental to the rest of your body. Preventive care is key. Angelina always gives back to the less fortunate.

  11. Nikk says – reply to this

Did not Christina Applegate have the same procedure also?

  12. 12

What utter HORSESHIT, anything to blow your own horn and get publicity. She is not a hero or any "braver" that the 1000's of others who have this done every year.

  13. 13

Re: Nikk – Yes, but the difference is that Christina actually HAD cancer. Angelina doesn't have it and never did yet she somehow lands on the cover of every magazine like she just cured cancer.

  14. 14

    Re: Ike – well said!!!

  15. 15

I'm glad to see people are seeing this for what it really is - nothing more than a glorified photoop.

Ike is right - she needs to put her money where her mouth is. And whoever said Angelina always gives back to the less fortunate needs to take a hard look at the woman's charitable donations. 93% of her donations go OUTSIDE this country. She does NOTHING to help children or women in this country. She had ONE foundation that was supposed to help Native Americans and after two paltry payments of less than five grand it ceased to exist. BRAD makes charitable donations within this country that amount to millions. Angelina? Not so much. This is yet another attention whoring op and the sad thing is Time fell for it. I cancelled my subscription as of today.

It's interesting how Angelina didn't wait until 2014 to have the government (Obmamcare) make her health care decisions for her. How convenient that she still had time to take control of her personal health situation and preventative measures.

  17. 17

Is anyone else concerned with the implications of Angelina Jolie's highly publicized double mastectomy? I get that this was a personal decision and that this is something highly weighted on individual circumstance but… let me get this straight. Am I supposed to believe that Western Medicine (run by greedy pharmaceutical companies without morals) will act in my best interests? You’re telling me that they will honestly inform me as to the likelihood that I will get cancer when they would obviously only profit from my fear and mutilation? In addition to that I am also supposed to accept that my potential for cancer solely depends on the genes I've inherited and that it has nothing to do with diet, lifestyle choices and the poisons in our environment. I am disturbed to see that this is what preventive medicine has boiled down to. There is a much bigger problem that needs to be addressed here and it’s not genes so spread your celebrity splashed propaganda elsewhere. In the meantime I’ll be busy avoiding our poisoned gmo food, our poisoned fluoridated water and maybe I’ll even buy some of that non cancer causing crystal deodorant to keep my girls healthy… I will not be blindly cutting them off because someone in a white coat wants a Ferrari to drive his mid life crisis around in.

Person of the year? Women have known about this procedure for a while now. Why give her an award because she's famous and done it, when many anonymous women have gone ahead with it with no fanfare? Most women are well aware of this option, so it's not like it's raising awareness for those women.

  19. @v@ says – reply to this

I don't want to take anything away from her ordeal, however. It was a pragmatic and brave choice for certain.

  20. 20

It's good if she did it for herself and to prevent of getting cancer rather then for media attention. I have mixed feelings about this women, I don't think that she stole anybody's husband as Brad happily went to her. But I do think that she took on board way too many kids, she isn't always gonna be that rich. How is she gonna afford them once her movie career dies.

  21. 21

Of course she is getting attention, she is Angelina Jolie. She is a sex symbol, part of which has to do with her breasts.
No she didn't cure cancer, yes other people go through it. No one is saying or denying these things. But this humanizes her. This is showing that this can happen to ANYONE no matter what their social/celebrity status.
And to the person who said that she's not doing any good for this country.. you are acting as if she is the ONLY person that has a charity. I am sure there are hundreds of charities that help people in this country. She's chosen to help other, less fortunate countries.

  22. Heaven says – reply to this

Brave?? NO PRIVILLEGED AND OPPORTUNISTIC..nothing has gotten me so upset as this recent story!! Telling her story was just her way of doing so before someone else could and making the most of it. Nor was she BRAVE for having the genetic testing and the procedure…she is lucky she has the money and or healthcare!

So many of us have mothers or other family members with breast cancer but we dont have the insurance or medicaid in this country doesnt cover it. NO ANGELINA IS NOT BRAVE MORE LIKE PRIVILEGED..LETS GET IT RIGHT!!!

Re: Anabella Smart – Do you have ANY idea how much they're worth? They could live off the interest of their money and never work a day in their lives and still make millions a year.

Re: Kittens With Mittens – you've hit the proverbial nail on the head. I kind of don't doubt that Miss U.N. And Mr. C.I.A are being P.R.d into positions of global worship. Smells fishy to me. Not that it's not true, not that, but the all hail Angelina who has no country who chose her children for the diversity of globalization.

Re: Rose – Hungarian police raided the set of Brad Pitt's new movie today — confiscating a massive stash of high-powered guns … including AK-47s and sniper rifles … filled with live ammo.

According to Hungarian authorities, the guns — which were to be used as props in Brad's new zombie flick "World War Z" — hadn't been properly disabled, and some even contained live rounds.

Authorities seized 85 weapons in total from a warehouse in Budapest — and called the entire situation "a disaster waiting to happen." Brad was not present during the raid.

A publicist for the film claims … "We are working with the authorities to resolve the matter and have no further comment at this time."

I wonder for us regular women if medical insurance would cover the cost of this and the reconstruction. She has the monetary means to do it most of us don't. I've always been an Angie fan :)

Geezze Louise! There are some mean-spirited folks alive and twisted running around, unescorted, tonight.
No. She does not have cancer. Yet.
No. I don't have the heart I was told I needed. Yet.
Why the hate? This is the human condition. We ALL get sick and we are all going to die. If we can shave off some of the obvious odds against it and buy some time…..why not? And why not talk about it?
Everyone will be singing a different tune when it's them. Just saying.

she has to cut herself up to get noticed anymore

i used to think she was beautiful when i first saw her in cleopatra i thought she was the most beautiful woman i had ever seen then she proceeded to weild her beauty like a sword destroying peoples lives and now i hate her …i find her ugly so it really means nothing that shes removing body parts according to one magazine shes down to 43 kg so as good as dead anyways …

  32. 32

time are getting more desperate they keep putting out these magazines so people will buy them they are more like fame or a rag than the important magazine they used to be ..when she removes her man eating vagina let me know thats news..

  33. Leslie says – reply to this

I'm certain she had quite a few reasons to reveal her decisions - one to bring attention to women's health issues and another - to beat the media before they blast it all over the news with the wrong information! We all know what to expect from the media in general. Genetic testing is not covered by insurance for most people and most people can't afford it. Maybe that will change some day. She's far from perfect - no one is - I don't know why she's on the cover of Time … except that lots of people will buy the magazine and the publishers will increase their revenue. Surprise!!!!

  34. 34

Re: ladydi – The issue here is not the removal of her breasts but the action of doing it. Nothing "heroic" about mastectomy. See the issue now?

  35. 35

Bravo Angelina for taking care of your health. Now comes the hard part she has to have another surgery. That's a lot!!!

Right now I see her in GIA at the end when she walks in that red dress!

    Peace out!

  36. 36

This nutjob whore made the announcement for attention. She's not HELPING anyone, and she's not BRAVE. She's an overpaid slut who could AFFORD to what what millions and millions can't. Angelina Jolie is a self-absorbed, self-congratulating, useless whore who makes sure people know what they know and see what they see so she gets attention. STFU about her already.

  37. 37

people wouldn't like her so much if she stole their husbands, just like she stole 2 husbands!

  38. 38

Re: Alexima – I didn't know people liked her. Really? What for?

  39. Fatso says – reply to this

Re: Ike – I think you should check angelina's long list of humanitarian missions and how much she has given to charity… What she is trying to do is tell women who are so afraid to face this disease that they have options and that it is not taboo to talk about it anymore… preventing cancer and how you want to stop it is a choice…

  40. Fatso says – reply to this

Re: Alexima – Husbands can never be stolen… If a man looks at another woman and falls for her then it tells you one thing, he is not in love with his wife. why? because if he is still in love with his wife then he wouldn't look at any other woman…

  41. Ike says – reply to this

    Re: Fatso

Yes I am well aware of what she has done in OTHER countries, not cancer-specific. But we aren't talking about that, are we? We're talking about how she is suddenly this hero for telling the world she had preventative measures that hundreds of women have. She did nothing more than save herself and use it for publicity. If she wanted to help OTHER WOMEN she would actually do something to help them. There is a very long list of female celebrities that have been open about their health struggles, she is HARDLY the first and HARDLY the most inspiring. I'm also pretty sure that it hasn't been 'taboo" to talk about breast cancer in a long time, and that had nothing to do with Angelina.

This is to make $$$. This company wants to owns the patent to these genes. They are fighting in the supreme court for their patent to hold up. This company wants to own the right to your genes. Under the healthcare act these test that are 3-4K are to be paid out by the taxpayers! So they are the only that can profit from the test. Guess what, this gene and and test does not apply to 99% of women!!!
