Ever since the return of 24 in a 12-episode "event series" was announced, we've had a ton of questions. And just like Kiefer Sutherland, WE NEED ANSWERS! TELL US!
First off, if they were just going to bring it back, why the heck was the show cancelled in the first place? Fox's Chairman of Entertainment Kevin Reilly says:
"Everybody was drained creatively and it felt like it was time. We wanted it to go out strong."
But as they were discussing ideas for a possible movie, co-creator Howard Gordon decided 2 hours just wasn't 24- but maybe 12 was! Kevin says:
"As he was designing the season, the spine of the 24 episodes was really about 12 hours. That was when the big events occurred, and then there were little twists and connective tissue in between.
So, he just said, 'This is so liberating for us to take what we would see as the best 12 hours and go in chronological order of the day, but skip hours.' It may go from 7 am to 8 am to 10 am, and then 11 am and 12 pm to 3 pm. It will be dictated by the plot."
Kevin also tells us that the show is slated to return in May of 2014, and WILL be a stand-alone series. That is, unless they have more story to tell…
