If it is true she "exhbited distressing behavior as a teenager…" WHY didn't her parents do something then about it when she was a minor and they did have some control???? Why wait for the time bomb to go off???

It is incredibly hard to diagnose schizophrenia until it becomes full-blown, which usually happens between 18 and 25, so there was really no way to properly treat her until it was obvious (like now) that it was indeed schizophrenia and not something like bi-polar. Taking medication for mental health issues is terrible for a young person especially since their bodies are continually changing, so even if she showed definitive symptoms in her teens, the medication would have to change periodically because her behavior would have changed as she aged. Unfortunately for her, if she does have schizophrenia, it is one of the worst mental health disorders one can deal with. At least she's somewhat functional, there are people that cannot even leave their home/hospital care. There might even be another mental health issue going on but because of co-morbidity it is really hard to tell, even from a professional's perspective. It will all just take time and patience. Good luck to her, she will need it.

the tone of this post is SO FUCKING PATRONIZING it makes me hate this site. If you REALLY cared for her well being you'd PUBLICLY state that you'll no longer cover her path to destuction. and urge others to do the same. is advertising money all you care about?

Your queer bitchiness is so transparent. you say you care but you prove, with every single post, you only care about yourself. if she dies she dies. stop giving her the attention and she'll have no choice but to look inward.

She believes whatever pops into her head is reality. People have witnessed many times her talking and laughing to herself and speaking in an unintelligible language. Her paranoia is another symptom of schizophrenia. Her behavior isn't much different than those you see homeless screaming and talking to someone that isn't there. It is very sad that no one can help her unless she is dangerous either to herself or someone else. Sane people question their sanity. Insane people are incapable of it. She isn't purposely lying…she isn't cognitive of all that she does because her mind is a complete state of jumbled thoughts. If we can learn anything from observing Amanda's behavior in such a public way, is that there are thousands of people who suffer from this and their parents are heartbroken and not have much power to do anything. Unfortunately, we are a long way off in seeking medication that cures schizophrenia as the symptoms keep getting worse and worse over time. Everyone should say a prayer for her.

She's not schizophrenic, she's Bi-Polar & going through a MAJOR manic episode. Grandiose thoughts, thinking she's invincible & the best at everything. She will keep going, keep getting worse until she gets help ( most likely involuntarily ) or she crashes! And the higher up you are when manic the harder & further she will crash. I've been there & the crash is going to be EPIC!!!

My daughter grew up watching her…So being a good mom ;) i watched everything my daughter watched with her. Good times. Like Hilary Duff, we came to care for her. It is very hard to see her like this. Too sad to follow her. We just pray she will come out of this okay. She needs to be surrounded by love & supported. I remember when Alice In Chains extremely gifted singer, Layne Staley, whom i adore, died sick & alone. I thought to myself…WTF… somebody should have smashed down his door & gotten him the help he so needed. I feel the same about Amanda. I do not believe there are not people who can save this girl. Smash down her door, drag her out against her will, force help on her or deal with the consequences of her possible death.

I'm worried about a complete stranger! Read some Internet stuff about Dan Schneider and Amanda Bynes that was not nice! Cant figure out why is she is acting deranged, diva-ish, delusional and defensive? Sounds almost like tinfoil hat brigade.

[re=6427866Re: haywlad – Bipolar behavior does not include hearing voices and talking with oneself. It is true that she can exhibit more than one personality dis-order but her paranoia and hearing voices is clearly a symptom of schizophrenia. I'm sure she also has bi-polar tendencies as well but they can also be explained by schizophrenic episodes going back and forth from lucidity to mass confusion in her brain.

Someone needs to go to a Judge in District Court. New York state law dictates that a patient can be admitted "based on the claim that the person has a mental illness which is likely to result in serious harm to self or others and for which immediate observation, care and treatment in a psychiatric center is appropriate." If involuntary emergency admission is warranted, a psychiatrist will examine the patient within 48 hours to determine her status, and, if necessary, the facility can keep the patient for up to 15 days. If the psychiatrist recommends involuntary admission beyond that time, the patient "must meet the requirements for, and be converted to, an involuntary admission based on medical certification.

And she is absolutely a threat to herself…

I do not think this is a mental illness I think she's doing crystal meth…

I also think she has been using drugs for a lot longer than the public has been told. I think drug abuse has been going on for numerous years. Her father even said that she has a substance abuse problem….

What is this nonsense? All I've heard is that she's screwed up (duh, she's was a child star AND she's in her 20's), she's "allegedly" heard voices (hearsay), and she's paranoid that she's being spied on (she's famous…she probably is, or has been. Exhibit A: the pics above). Sooo… unless there's more to this than I am aware of, I'd say her parents (w/ their pop-psych google knowledge) "allegedly" know what they're talking about.

Very sad. The right thing to do is never report on her because it is only hurting her. Heartbreaking for her and her family.
