Demi Lovato Forced To Sign Suicide Contract As A Child!

| Filed under: Demi LovatoMental Health

demi lovato suicide contract post gif

So much suicide talk this morning. Makes us very, very sad.

Not one to hide from reality, Demi Lovato has recently shared a very serious memory of hers — one that occurred when she was only seven years old!

According to her, the darkness that has overwhelmed her in the past didn't just begin when she was introduced to celebrity. A survivor of bulimia and cutting, and a champion at owning bipolar disorder, Demi tells Rolling Stone:

"The principal called my parents and made me sign this suicide contract saying that I would not kill myself [when I had suicidal thoughts at age seven]. They weren’t expecting that so young."

Wow. We can't even BEGIN to imagine!

But like we said, gurl is a SUR-VIV-OR! Not only has she successfully defeated her demons, she's bravely keeping the issue as public as possible to battle the stigma behind mental illness.

We applaud her for being so real! Stay strong, DemiDemz!!

And here's hoping little Paris Jackson finds the same strength you did!

P.S. Please call 1-800-273-8255 if you're suffering suicidal thoughts. They're the perfect ear for any and all problems, and they can really help clear your mind and put you at the ease you deserve. You are loved!!

I'm surprised that her parents would let her pursue a career in entertainment, then. It's well known that the stress from work, and stress and judgment during auditions are hard on adults, let alone children. Add depression into that mix, I'm thankful Demi made it and survived her dark thoughts. It could have easily gone a different way.

Fuck this attention whoring bitch. She's a totally nobody. Totally and forever irrelevant.

Re: pollopicu – Well she has saved thousands of girls' lives just by showing them that you can stay strong even in the darkest times. I wonder what YOU have done to make you so 'relevant' -_-

Thank you Demi for being so transparent in your struggles with mental illness. Social Awareness and de-stimga-zation is long overdue in this culture. I hope that more people will begin to talk about their experiences with it: How it manifested in their life, and how treatment and counseling can help.

That's actually a common thing when people talk about having suicidal thoughts or ideas. It's called contracting for safety. If she said she had suicidal thoughts it was good to make sure she was safe but her parents should have gotten her ongoing help.

i'm getting real tire of this girl always talking about her sob story, like we get it, when you were young, you wanted to kill yourself. MOVE ON!! how many times are you going to remind us. I feel like she is just telling these stories for attention.

    Re: jenn

well, if she is, it's working, because haters like you definitely give in

This girl has a new ailment every time someone comes up with a tragic story

"ohhhh i was bulimic bla bla" "ohhhh they forced me to use cocaine so I can be 'up' " "ohhh my principal told me to sign a suicide contract because i was suicidal"

what's next? "ohhh i had to have an abortion because my daddy abused me and I couldn't keep the baby" just get over it and stop crying

  11. 11

She shouldn't have to get over her struggles and stop talking about it. She went through things that many people go through, and she is bringing awareness to it. People like to brush off depression and eating disorders by saying "get over it." Or denying the problem exists because they are young, but it does happen. She shouldn't have to keep her problems quiet, and she is speaking for all those who are too scared to. Some people maybe think she is desperate for attention, but I think she's just trying to help.

Artists are often dramatic. That's why they lean towards and have a talent towards artistry. Thinking about it doesn't at all equate with doing it. It's when the actions back up the thought itself that merely considering it turns into something else.

i don't believe this shit one bit. shes trying to get her fans and other people feel sorry so they can buy her albums. if she was really that messed up don't you think her parents would of got her help? and a PRINCIPAL calls your family saying you have to sign a contract cause you have sudical thoughts and your parents didn't do anyhing about it? i know she wasn't close with her dad from what she says and the songs about him but what about her mom?? like really your fuckin 7 and your school tells you this but they don't do anything. i'm sorry but this is complete bullshit cause if you went to my school they would said i think your daughter needs some serious help. also the fact her family new about her sudical thoughts they still let her have a career being in entertainment.

It's easy to say that her parent's shouldn"t have done this or sould have done that.. But it's not actually that easy in reality you know. My best friend was Bipolar, she attempted to kill herself so many time I lost count and then she succeeded :( Her parents knew about everything and yet they still let her go the one of the hardest and most stressfull high school in my country. And they knew the pression put on the kids there, they knew how much she was worried about grades and everything..
I love Demi's honesty and she helped me so much back when all this happened. I believe her story even if I understand that it can be suspicious that she's only speaking about this now…. Stay Strong everybody !

Re: Lena – I am so sorry to hear about your friend, I have a niece who is bipolar, and it is hard for her and my sister.
    Wishing you the best.
On topic, do not know much about her, but can kids even form thoughts about killing themselves at age 7? I mean, their brains are nowhere near fully formed.

    Re: teeter totter
Thank you, there is more to the story but anyway.
There are more and more kids that age trying or even succeeding in killing themselves so look like it's possible. My sister was saying that she wanted to die when she was really young, younger than 7. Of course she never did and didn't realise what she was talking about but she still said it. So I don't doubt that a bipolar 7 year old can have those thoughts, doesn't mean she would have done it. The sad thing is that at such a young age they know wha death is, they sometimes know that what they have really isn't what they want, but they aren't aware of all the consequencies :/

Maybe it's just me but sentences like "They weren’t expecting that so young." sound weird coming from Demi ? That and the last creepy rumor about her being an awful Diva on X-factor the same day… I don't know it's just weird. Maybe she is having a bad phase and that the album, X-factor and so on are sudently a bit too much so that's why she acts out ? Anyway, I adore her and I wish her the best.

Oops can't post links.. But a 7 year old killed himself last year in Detroit after being bullied a lot and his parent's divorce. And an other 7 year old tried last year too also because of severe bullying :/

    Re: amanda parker

    1. So rehab isn't getting help then? You must have been asleep in 2010 when she checked herself into a rehab center for her issues. No offense but people don't go into rehab for the cushy atmosphere and what not.

    2. Of course it's a marketing ploy. Anyone who is using their Story be it personal or what not is using it to get business. It's called having a JOB. Do you know nothing about how the real world works?

    3. She said in multiple interivews that back when she was young, they didn't have a lot of money. So they really couldn't GET her the proper help. Hate to break it to you but therapy and what not? it's pretty expensive.

    4. Plus they did DO something. hence why she signed the contract. Dur. And you are aware of how many CELEBRITIES have had these thoughts are are currently IN the entertainment industry right? Angelina Jolie for one has had some radical thoughts. And well she's ANgelina Jolie lol.

You really are clueless my dear. You know nothing about the real world.

Come back when you hit puberty junior.

I'm glad to have found an interview from 2011 where she talked about that happening at age 7, it's less weird that she didn't just say that suddenly !!

    Re: James
    1. yea rehab was when she was like 18 after she punch her dancer in the face so that didn't really help her problems at age 7. how could i not hear about hear about rehab in 2010 it was everywhere
    2. yea i'm not famous so i don't need to keep complaining and making up shit to sell and make money. and fyi i do have a job and they don't give a fuck about your personal issues ok?
    3. demi must of lied cause her mom was a ex cow boys cheerleader and demi was on barney which i'm pretty sure that 6 year old got paid for it. so she shouldn't talk about she didn't have money. i live with my aunt and mom sine i was 4 cause my mom can't afford a house or an apartment ok thats not affording money.
    4. bitch i'm fuckin 20 years old and i lived through a hell of a high school filled with 1,000+ of kids that bullied me. they though me threw a door called me names but i didn't beg my mom to get home schooled i took it. do i believe that her students at her sighed something we hated demi lovato no cause what grade school kids think like that.
i'm stick of demi thinking shes the only person who has issues " i got bullied, my dad wasn't there, i cut myself"
