American Idol is getting a MAJOR overwhaul for season 13!
After hitting some serious low notes in the ratings last season, it means longtime executive producers Nigel Lythgoe and Ken Warwick (above) are out and Swedish Idol producer Per Blankens is in.
New showrunner David Hill thinks Per will be the man to bring Idol back to its ratings glory days.
AI executive producer for FremantleMedia North America, Trish Kinane, explained:
"Per is a creative and experienced executive who has been the show runner on the blockbuster Swedish Idol for more than 5 seasons. He is extremely passionate about Idol and I’m very excited about his ideas and vision for keeping Idol creatively vibrant."
OMG! We're so excited!!!
..And Per is too!
Upon hearing the news, Per said:
"The Idol franchise is a worldwide phenomenon and I'm honored to be a part of the most popular of the franchises, American Idol. I can't wait to get started as auditions for the new season are just a few weeks away.”
Have we mentioned how excited we are??!
We've been yearning for the days of AI at its prime and we're crossing our fingers that Per — AND the possibility of Jennifer Lopez's return to the judging panel — will be the answer to all our singing competition prayers!!!
He might not be a well known name like Nigel and Ken, but his experience doing the Swedish versions of Idol, Master Chef and The Biggest Loser is giving us some real hope!
Do YOU think there is any chance of reviving American Idol??!
