The controversy and Kim Kardashian-courting rapper unveiled his anticipated new album on a loading dock in NYC's meatpacking district, and for a couple hours, it was the hottest place in the city!
So what did everyone think? Well, before reviews come in, all we can do is go by is how it made people feel, and the mood was reportedly ecstatic! Even normally dour-faced Kanye was smiling and laughing. He even tried explaining his work for once! He said:
"I want to explain something about the album title. Simply put, 'West' was my slave name and 'Yeezus' is my god name."
Um, OK. That one wasn't that much of a mystery… But according to Ye, the controversy isn't part of a plan. He said:
"I have a new strategy, it's called 'no strategy.' I have a plan to sell more music it's called 'make better music.'"
Of course, there was one strategy Kanye adhered to for the album- collaborate and listen! The album featured the work of Daft Punk, Chief Keef, and Bon Iver's Justin Vernon, among others. Kanye said:
"If I'm standing next to someone, that means they're better at something than I am."
Good strategy! And it sounds like it paid off!
