TLC Re-Records Waterfalls With J-Pop Superstar In Left Eye's Place! Hear It HERE!

TLC's Waterfalls, now twenty years old, is one of the greatest ever crossover R&B singles!

What better way to celebrate two decades of awesomeness than a super sweet re-recording?!

Fan-favorite Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes died tragically in 2002, but they weren't going to let that stop them! So they invited Japanese Pop/R&B star Namie Amuro to sing in her place!!

Ch-ch-check out their unexpectedly amazing version of Waterfalls (above)!

Wow!!! It's jarring hearing someone else sing Left Eye's iconic rap verse, but Namie nailed it!!

We cannot wait to see how TLC celebrates CrazySexyCool's 21st birthday!!!

Oooh, we know — VEGAS?!?

Way to ruin a song. I understand that they blew through their money like the ghetto darkies they are, and figure rehashing better times is the way to go to line their pockets again. They're idiots. If they don't have the talent to make it without destroying their old work, I hear Walmart is always hiring. It won't kill them to try to make an honest living.

It's not as bad as everyone is describing… I mean she's Japanese and has a very clear accent, but that doesn't make it BAD. Just different. I enjoyed listening and reminiscing!

First of all, this is horrible. Second. Waterfalls is 18 1/2 years old, not 20. It was popular in the spring/summer of 1995 18 years ago. Not 20. CrazySexyCool came out in November 1994. That´s less than 19 years ago and it won´t celebrate its 21st Anniversary until late 2015. Get your facts straight

Am I a racist? But it doesn't work. But I'm sure money talks you know. Give them a break what else do they have going for them? That's all they have so try to cash in I certainly would so no judging.

What was that $hee-ite!!! What were they thinking?!?!? Her voice isn't strong enough to pull that off!! Why didn't they get someone one like Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, or Da Brat that has a stronger voice!! It makes me want to cry listening to this HORRRRIBLE track.

@ Pansy Hunter-You could have just said you didn't like it or gave your opinion….websites need a filter for ignorant people, such as your self. I understand you’re looking for attention and feel alone…so here you go… Perhaps you’re name is a reflection of how you feel about yourself-being cruel won’t change that. I guess, you were looking for someone to respond and since I had three minutes to spare… I figured, I’d remind you …that saying racist prejudice remarks…JUST REFLECT THE TYPE OF PERSON YOU ARE-. Freedom of speech should omit hateful people but unfortunately…you have to take the good with the bad-and if you choose to reply and say horrible things about me so be it. Thanks in advance for proving my point. Have a great day…year and life…hopefully with time you figure out how to be a decent person…and you’re welcome, for the time I spent typing this…

To be honest, I think this collaboration is not doing both Namie and the song a justice. Please take some time listening to Namie's own music. It is way better than what she did in this song.

I think this is good up until the new girl. I think it would have been a great homage if they convinced someone like MIssy Elliot, Eve or Trina to do the rap-verse. And dare I say it, I think even Nicki Minaj would have done it better.

Omg. She did not "nail it"
Why would they think this was ok or sounded good?! It's horrendous.
How offensive to Left Eye and her family!! For real!

In WHAT world did Namie "nail" that rap??? This whole thing is blasphemous!!!

    Terrible!!!! She ruined the song.

While TLC should have gotten permission for Lisa's family first. I don't blame Namie for it however. Lisa has been gone for how long now? Time to let go and move on don't you think. Furthmore MTV VMAJ 2013 honored TLC with the “Legend Award just recently.” It was part of the special Japan 20th anniversary edition of select songs including, a re-make of Waterfalls. The last person to receive the “Legend Award” in Japan was Michael Jackson back in 2006. So this might help explain to some people the reasoning behind this. Here is a statment from TLC on the manner. “Our re-make of “Waterfalls” was a tribute to our sister Lisa, who actually co-wrote “Waterfalls” with Marqueze Etheridge. "We don’t own the Master recording rights to Lisa’s raps on any of our music, and our requests to gain the rights so far have been denied." "With the Japanese anniversary edition, we were forced to use creative ways to honor Lisa’s memory and celebrate this milestone with our Japanese fans." "Lisa met Namie with us back in 1999 and she knew how much of a TLC fan Namie is."

  31. 31

TLC later when on to say. "Having met namie before we were impressed with how talented she is as a solo artist." "Lisa being one of the most creative people I have ever met, would’ve been the first to have other talented artists covering our music." "It is a tribute to her memory, and one I know one she would appreciate." So people need to take this out of the proper context what was said. Namie is an amazing artist & one of the few Japanese artists which I won't hesitate to recommend in the same sentence as TLC. While I do agree the remake could have been a bit better arranged. It makes since why they did it this way. Of coarse my personal choice would have been Crystal Kay as she is half black. Rum (Heartsdales) is another which would also been an excellent choice. Since she is a rapper to begin with. Not to mention grew up in NYC and all. Soulhead sisters also come to mind. A lot of good Japanese R&B artists for sure but still can't complain to much here. The fact Namie was already known to be a big fan likely helped in their decision and that she met Lisa already. So who are we to judge, just saying. :)

Re: Trisha WittkampRe: PhoenixNSide – It's sounds like TLC knew Namie for a long time now. She met Lisa as well? Well what the hell are people complaining about then. I will say though Namie isn't really a rapper so I question why they didn't give her more singing parts? The legend award is very prestigious in Japan as they rarely give it out. This is a huge honor so TLC likely wanted to do something special for the Japanese fans. That does make a lot of since though and frankly wouldn't surprise me any. Damn record labels are the real enemy here. They so screw artists out of everything it seems. Didn't TLC almost go bankrupt once because of that? Thanks for the great recommendations btw. Wow never heard of SoulHead but truly amazing group agree. Lecca I was just introduced to the other day by a friend. Crazy, she is like the Japanese Shirika! Damn PSY hasn't done any of this amazing Asian artists justice, people really need to check them out along with Namie.
