Well, this isn't cool. Not cool at all.
James Gandolfini left us tragically young at only 51, but it sounds like he went out on top of the world.
The Sopranos star was at the Taormina Film Festival to receive an acting award, and he took the opportunity to spend some quality time with his son in the home of their ancestors. Taormina's artistic director Mario Sesti says:
"He was so happy to be in Italy, to reconnect with his Italian roots, and he was very excited to come here and receive this award."
James' assistant Tom Richardson confirms that James was having the time of his life, remembering:
"We all had a marvelous day together, and when he returned to the hotel Jimmy went to the bathroom and that is where something happened.
His sister said he was still alive when the ambulance took him away."
So horrible and sad! But it's somewhat comforting to hear that James was truly happy before his passing.
Surrounded by family, friends, and fans in an Italian paradise? Sounds bellisima to us.
