Well this is something we're not surprised to hear. Paula Deen has been slathered in butter a PR nightmare ever since she admitted to using the N word. S… Read more…
What if this had been you? After all, Paula apologized, you defended your homophobic slurs.
If she was a black rapper or actor, this would be a resume enhancement, and she would be lauded and rewarded for using that word 25 times in a song or interview. This double standard that exists in the media/speech police is wrong and evil.
Re: Muskratlove – Thank you! I always will go back to "N*ggas in Paris" and how it not only was a number one hit, the name of a tour but recieved many accolades. It's hypocritical to say the least.
Those sure are some baggy ass pants……..
Food network sucks - I love Paula. I agree with the other comments.
Paula Deen has been treated unfairly and absolutely eviscerated by the media. Who would be willing to enter into a deposition every single word they've EVER said? She's human just like the rest of us and imperfect - we've all said and done things we regret. If this woman was black, the situation would be a non-issue. Why the double standard?
If I'm fat, and another fat person calls me fat, it's not as offensive. If a skinny person talks about my weight, It would be more likely that i would be offended. Think about it. ever seen two huge people pointing the finger at who called who fat? no! Just like you hear girl-friends calling each other bitches. But if you ever witnessed an outsider making that same comment, it caused a problem because the "offender" is not apart of that group. People get offended when you don't come from a commonplace and you make comments. That's how it is. And that how it will always be. I play by the rules. Paula said and did something behind closed doors. But why did she feel the need to expose this part of her life? It was unnecessary! She's older, but no fool. Instead of taking the n word from black people, she should have followed the mantra ,"No SNITCHING"! She ruined her own career by telling on her self, not for using the n word.
turn off the Food Network and cancel QVC cards, only way to stop the PC police.
The public isn't mad at her. The media is.
Re: shaygirl1309 – Somehow, I think they'll survive without your patronage.
I can't stand southerners. She's just stupid enough to say what they all say. Common sense would tell you that if you're in the media you can't let if all hang out. Look at that cheap pantsuit. She's not better than anyone. Fatso got fired for being stupid. I love how all these people are defending her. The bottom line is they can't make people watch her or buy any products she tries to sell on QVC. It's all about money and they know that. Put a fork in that goose. She's done.
Re: The Eric – oh, I'm sure they will but little by little they will lose. you got to be loyal in times of trouble. this PC police is bad news.
Re: Cut and dry –
I agree with you 100%
I have NO idea why her PR people let this become public knowledge. She should have paid the woman off and added a firm/unbreakable confidentially agreement!
The public did not have to know about this at all. You've got to know when to fold them….
The damage to her career/finances is much greater than the 1.2 mil that was being sought. She, (or her PR people) should have known this and KILLED IT!
Hell, she has 1.2 mil in her pocket!
Re: Cut and dry – Know a good way to end all the drama surrounding certain words? Don’t use them. Period. You can use 100 different analogies to try to explain why words are only correct to use in certain situations, but the ideology behind it will still remain completely hypocritical and asinine. There are so many words to choose from to address one another with that don’t have negative connotations.
Re: DoinME – Like black people, not all southerners say the N-word. To say differently is ignorant. Once Paula hires a PR team that knows how to do damage control, she’ll follow in the footsteps of many of the other celebrities that have used the N-word and continued on successfully. (i.e. Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Lopez, Eminem, Paris Hilton, Charlie Sheen, John Mayer, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, and Mel Gibson - just to name a few)
Re: WillowWynde –
I absolutely agree that the words should not be used AT ALL. Not just the "N" word but any word(s) that can be construed as derogatory, offensive or hateful.
BUT since she did in fact say it, her PR people should have handled this MUCH differently. She did not seem sincere in either interview (I seriously think that she thinks she did nothing wrong).
It was a PR nightmare from the moment it became public and they should NOT have allowed that to happen. Period.
I'm sure she was (is) paying them good money to minimize just this kind of negative attention and and protect her "empire".
It was a stupid move and should not have been allowed to happen.
I thought it was something she just said behind closed doors. Then I found out she was making racist jokes in her restaurant over and over again. Infront of guests. Infront her staff. She admitted to it and found nothing wrong with it. Plus she admitted to having her black staff dressed as slaves. This bitch ain't right. Yes, fire her ass. I never liked her. Evil c♧◆t.
oh look the usual suspects on here tryin' to justify plantation mentality **facepalm**
u dont just say stuff once its like ifu said it means u said it before ….
send her out to pasture
Re: Cut and dry – Cut, she was under oath and giving a deposition for a pending civil suit. I admire her for telling the truth but it sure cost her.
if a black person used the word honky on air there wouldn't be an uproar like this! Double standards and ridiculous!!!.
Re: WillowWynde – <<< o_O careful your ..um…privilege is showing
Ironically, a woman who used to want to be in the Klan is the only person I know who is mad about Paula Deen's ignorant comments about black people. My black friends think that Paula Deen is being railroaded by the media. Strange times in America.
Re: blackviolet – Do pray tell what privilege you are referring to.
Paula's career will be fine. Food Network's ratings may bot be fine though.
Paula's career will be fine. Food Network's ratings may NOT be fine though, I meant.
I don't want to put the knife deeper on her back but she really messed up. I don't know how she'll get out of this one.
Re: DoinME – I'm a Southerner, and I don't like you either.
I dumped Paula after the diabetes fiasco and keeping it secret until she got an endorsement gig for diabetes meds. Won't have ANYTHING to do with her at all. And she used to be my fav.
Re: candlefirefly – There has ALWAYS been a double standard as far as the "n" word goes. NOBODY BUT NOBODY can use it other than a black person and it be ok. That is just how it is. STUPID, because if it is wrong it is wrong. It is not a double standard just for Paula, it is a double standard for EVERYnon-black person on the planet. That being said - I am not saying it is ok to EVER use that word. It should just be wrong for ANYONE to use it. I don't say it is wrong for people to use "jap" or "nip" around me and the go ahead and use those words!
Re: Cut and dry – It was NOT unecessary!!! It came out in a depostion in a lawsuit in which she is being sued for DISCRIMINATION!!!! She did not just decide to come out and say "Hey y'all, just wanted you to know once upon a time I used the "n" word!!!!! She DID NOT "tell on herself" other than she testified in a deposition. And, just in case you are unaware of how depositions work - you HAVE to tell the truth. It is just like sworn testimony in court! If she lied in her dep, and it came out she could be found guilty of perjury. Know ALL the facts before you make STUPID comments.
Re: kabuki girl –
You are ADORABLE! You really believe in fighting the cause, don't you. Good for you!
HOWEVER, you are missing one VERY important point. Paula Deen did NOT have to testify at the deposition!
She could have offered the plaintiff a settlement. If Paula had never made the racist comments, that would be one thing. Since we KNOW that she made them, via her OWN testimony, she would have been better served with settling the case - with a FIRM confidentially agreement!
Her PR people failed her, plain and simple.
Who of us can say that we've NEVER said anything offensive/racist/prejudicial 30/35 years ago!
I'm a 59 year old granny and have said/done some things I'm not proud of.
Re: cujokay –
.. Oh, and I'm black. Black as that board! lol!
Re: paris knight – honky was not hung in a tree for no reason honky was not beaten and killed for a sport, nor was honky constantly kept down held down, and treated lower than an animal, and ect……. now what does the word honky
We could probably give you one thousand, nine hundred, eighty nine reasons Taylor Swift won 2014!
As in 1989, her album that sold better than any other this year and was part of a VERY exclusive club of platinum records this year!
[ Video: Taylor Swift Celebrates 1989 Going Platinum By Rapping To Kendrick Lamar! ]
Taylor also made Hot 100 history by being the first woman ever to dethrone HERSELF on the top of the charts as Blank Space replaced Shake It Off as number one!
The poppiness of 1989 marked a sea change for Swifty as she stepped up from being a crossover country star to a full-fledged pop idol.
Taylor also wasn't afraid to step into new roles like the New York Tourism Board's Global Welcome Ambassador!
She also put her reputation on the line fighting for artists' rights in a controversial battle with streaming service Spotify.
That may be why she was named Billboard's Woman Of The Year!
And throughout it all, her style was one point, even when she was channeling characters from children's literature!
