Woman Hangs Collection Of Menstrual-Stained Cloth In 'Intimate' Art Exhibit!

| Filed under: Wacky, Tacky & TrueCrazzzzy

bloody art exhibit

When life hands you lemons, make lemon sorbet! When life hands you menstrual cycles, make art??

Whether or not you agree with the second philosophy, a Chilean artist by the name of Carina Ubeda has done exactly that! She spent five years collecting her own menstrual blood, and has now hung her collection for the world to see.

Beneath the bloody stains are stitched words like "Production", "Discard", and "Destroyed".

While we're sure this is inspiration for some, we just kind of feel sick!

Here are the answers to some of the basic questions that have arisen in the wake of her exhibit:

Why she hasn’t used disposable pads for the last five years:

"I can not wear pads because they give me allergies."

Why the menstrual cloths are strung up like that:

"This is a super visual."

What happens when people who don’t know any better and smell the cloths:

“The smell just does not exist, [the cloths] are not filthy."

Why she would want to display these cloths:

"Many people have asked me why I wanted to show something so intimate. . . For me, it is simply a work of art made by me, I see them as separate things."

We’ll let you judge for yourselves as you watch a video of her display…AFTER THE JUMP!!!

    "The cloths are not filthy"

REALLY! Have you not heard of blood-born pathogens?! There's reasons why people handle blood with GLOVES. I don't care who you are, I don't know where you've been. This is not art. This is a lady showing her dirty menstrual cloths and calling them art. Art takes EFFORT, this didn't. And if it's supposed to represent a woman's suffering, this isn't how you do it. 99% of women on this planet are VERY familiar with periods, you're preaching to the choir.

No. Just no. Disgusting. This is not art, it's desperation.

Re: anonymous – How dare you be repulsed by this. This is absolutely beautiful and I am sure it smells wonderful. The attack on women in America must stop. Periods are natural and if the woman decides to smear her wonderful bloody pads on canvas, please do not attack her for it. I think I am going to do this same exact thing except I will use soiled toilet tissue. I will call it funk-art! lol

This sort of thing was being done by Feminist artists in the UK in the 1970s and 80s. It's a bit old hat now.

Since these are stains, I hope she washed them before showcasing them, otherwise that room would smell really disgusting!

I bet she thinks she's an artist. Really though, she is more like the kind of artists you see in high school. The ones that take photos of things and then make them black and white or sapia. What a fucking joke. If she had done this overnight, everyone would think she was a fucking psycho.
