Even though we'd recently reported the possibility and it was pretty clear from the hilarious and heartwarming send-off song
Fred Armisen Ian Rubbish played on the SNL season finale this Spring, Fred has now totes admitted he will DEF not be returning to the show. He says:
"I think it's clear. I didn't do any kind of official announcement, but I really felt like it was obvious."
After 11 seasons on a weekly program notorious for all-nighters, we’d be taking a break to catch up on sleep and our DVR catalog and online shopping.
But that’s why we’re not Fred Armisen!!!
Fred is actually leaving his weekend engagement in part to focus on his IFC sketch show, Portlandia, now in its third season and geared up for two more, saying:
"Portlandia started to pull me away more and more, schedule-wise, and I just felt like it'd be nice to focus on it a little more and go into the fall a bit more with shooting."
As much as we’ll miss the Californians, Barack Obama, and so many Middle Eastern leaders from our Saturday nights, if it means more of these folks:
Good luck, Fred!!!!
Ch-ch-check out more photos of Fred's SNL days and a Portlandia peek (below)!
