canada train derailment accident deaths

More horrible news!

A train in the small town of Lac-Megantic, Quebec, Canada reportedly exploded and has caused some major destruction in the area.

The train had reportedly been pulling more than 70 tankers of crude oil when it supposedly parked and ended up slipping downhill which caused it to derail and crash into downtown. As a result, homes and historic buildings were supposedly leveled.

Not only that, but the tanker ended up in flames!

As of now, it's reported that at least five people are dead from the accident, but 40 are still missing.

We hope people are able to find their loved ones!

Our thoughts are with everyone suffering from the accident!

I never understood this site sandwiching tragedy news in between baby pics and false gossip.

Re: Circling the Drain… – Yeah you are right but only for the rest of Canada. We in the province of Québec still work with the Kyoto protocole.

Re: Yeah Whatever Asshole – At least he did better than CNN who at one point placed Canada in Asia.

Re: quebecoise – As long as the international agreement is " en francais".

"Homes and historic buildings were supposedly leveled"… they were not "supposedly leveled", they were actually destroyed.

    Re: Circling the Drain…
That's a really dumb thing to say about Canada. Canada is way more environmentally friendly than the US will ever be. And the train derailment just shows why the Keystone Pipeline needs to be built…

Re: ella – Canada withdrew from Kyoto, passed Bill C-38 and promotes development of "tar sands".

Re: Circling the Drain… – Fuck off you damn yankee hillbilly! Canadians do more to protect the environment than self centered Americans could ever do. Same with food ingredients. Go eat a Twinkee and down it with a Up Size Big Gulp you Honey Boo Boo Lovin freak

Wow, some of the comments here are unbelievable… That train belonged to you Americans! What happened this week is horrible… People who writes outrageous comments are probably some fat frustrated people behind a computer… oh wait, almost all american are like that….

2 disasters in a row . Time to pray to our Lord Jesus Christ

  15. this is riddiculous says – reply to this

Re: Circling the Drain… – does it really look like this accident has a connexion to kyoto or bill C-38 ? People were trapped inside a bar where the train exploded, people were injured and a lot of them are still missing with little hope that they are still alive. Quebecers care about the environment and so what if the agreement is "en francais" ? Does their environmental engagement is any less effective because they want to preserve their primary language ? + like said before, this is an american train, so much for "Canada doesn't care about the environment".

  16. MArclyn says – reply to this

Im sorry ok but i live in that town!!! we lost over 45 people. Some of the comments here are just disrespectful…. You guys actualy know nothing about it so STFU

  17. Roxanne says – reply to this

Seriously?! I live in Québec and the article here is not about environnement and you all fight for "yeah Canada don't care about the Earth"…. There is dead people and many are still missing….. Empathy? Do you know that word? It's sad to see how people react to tragedy when it doesnt happen in their country, suddenly, oops nah not important! Let's not talk about dead people and their families, just how much Harper and his Gouv. care about Kyoto….

  18. Canuck says – reply to this

Re: Circling the Drain… – What the heck are you talking about? Canadians are active environmentalists. What about all of the important personal initiatives that Canadians do that Americans have copied 20 years later? Americans, think you know everything.

  19. Steph says – reply to this

Seriously guys you gonna argue about Kyoto and Harper and try to tell each other wich country is better,When people died, people still missing some people lost everything.NOT THE TIME OR THE PLACE. Ok i get it there's not thousand of people that died, but PEOPLE STILL DIED!!!!!! compasion and respect would be nice.

  20. JaterGirl says – reply to this

For your info, the train belonged to Montreal, Maine & Atlantic Railway is actually, despite the Montréal in the name, an American company. So stop bashing Canada

This happened 30 minutes from my home, for all of you making rude comments think of all the families affected and please keep it to yourself.

  23. Joseephine says – reply to this

Circling the drain you seriously amaze me in every wrong way possible. You and your sick attitude is exactly what's wrong with the world right now. This tragedy affects us all and we weep for those poor people and their family. We shall never forget you , Lac-Mégantic…le Québec entier est derrière vous!

  24. 24

Canadians are HILARIOUS! A thin veneer of civilization. Scratch the surface, a tiny bit, and out come comments about AMERICANS: yankee, hillbilly, twinkie, honey boo boo, self-centered, and fat. The world doesn't recognize your arrogance, but I do, because I lived in your sorry country! No one, anywhere, knows anything about Canada. Why do think that is?

  25. JaterGirl says – reply to this

Re: Circling the Drain… – Shut your ugly mouth will you? People died, for God's sake.

  26. @v@ says – reply to this

Re: Circling the Drain… – Moronic comment, considering that not opening keystone has BO's buddy Warren Buffet's (and others) trains carrying tankers full of the same petroleum products all over the good ole U.S.A. in the same way. Plus the coal carbon footprint south of the border absolutely dwarfs the filtered emissions of the oil sands. They're not tar sands; that's a slur developed by people with particular agendas, and not all of them tree hugging.

  27. @v@ says – reply to this

Re: Circling the Drain… – Educated people in the U.S. and other countries know plenty about Canada. It's only people who are up their own arse who don't.

  28. @v@ says – reply to this

Re: Circling the Drain… – Anyway, troll, stop hi jacking a thread about a terrible catastrophe where people have been killed and are suffering, and instead making it about the obvious fat chip on your ignorant shoulder. Lac-Megantic, mon coeur est lourd et avec vous dans votre choc et votre chagrin; marcher ensemble pour aider la hausse des cendres.

  29. rox says – reply to this

Re: Circling the Drain… – Typical, when american tragedies happen, you guys are real happy with any help you can get. WE, Canadians, often offer that help.

When something horrible happens in our nation, you INSTANTLY point fingers at us.
When Katrina hit, our red cross came to help. When Sandy hit, same thing. The boston bombing? MANY Canadians were there to hand a helping hand to the victims.

This isn't about environment or Kyoto. This is about a train explosion that HAS KILLED PEOPLE. It's a tragedy! It's not about what our dumb PM decided over matters that have NOTHING to do with this. Also, if you want to get technical, unlike the States, we don't vote for the Prime Minister, we vote for representatives in our neighbourhoods. Therefore, we didn't necessarily wanted to be stuck with someone who would sign us out of Kyoto. With that being said, get your head out of the sand.

Humanity is about crossing borders and having empathy. You, you're the worst kind of person.

Re: Circling the Drain…Re: Circling the Drain… – For your info, it is a MMArail.com train, An american train. It is an explosion of a TRAIN from USA IN CANADA. No we don't care about environment cause we agree to give admission in canada of dangerous transportation from usa that does not follow our regulations.

  31. sarah says – reply to this

obviously circling the drain is a troll… notice how he/she does not let it go and keeps ramping things up? don't play into it… she's/he's rocking a little chub somewhere from how fired up everyone is getting… the people who are offended by the comments, you know who you are on the inside and the way you feel, whether about the environment, your government, etc… so if you are here to express condolences for the losses this community has suffered, don't let him/her distract you from that. seriously, trolls lead very lonely and pathetic lives… don't get sucked in

  32. Emilie says – reply to this

Everybody should just think about if this tragedy would have happened in your town… would you talk about environnement and stuff? This man lost 4 of his family member including his son and daughter in law… In Québec we have de respect of just offering our condoleances and pray… you guys should do the same!

I have traveled all over the USA, I can say that Americans are very nice people, but one of the most ignorant races on the face of this planet. And in today's technological world, ignorance is a CHOICE.
America is the only country in the world where there is widespread DENIAL about evolution…
I don't hear any stories about the state of Maine pitching in relief efforts…they're right across the border.
These people don't even have body parts to bury, some loved ones were vaporized by the intense heat. Those are people's moms and dads and brothers and sisters. That's someone's child that's not coming home.
For the love of god, have some humanity. That's asking a lot from a people who despise gun laws but allow 30,000 people to die from them a year, but at least try. Prove to the rest of the world you're not the ignorant, unfeeling fucks they think you are.

  36. 36

Re: CarlaH – You are the ignorant person in this equation. The US has 10 X the population of Canada, with the same land mass. You are focusing on a minority in the US, groups of people that average Americans disagree with. Once again, arrogant Canadians, with no personality, and condescending opinions!

  37. 37

Re: CarlaH – Oh, and Americans aren't a race Carla, once again ignorance.

Re: Circling the Drain… – In fact, I'm completely loyal. If you can't take it, don't dish it out.

  39. 39

Re: @v@ – Loyal? Anyone can do a google translate. You were speaking "their" language. The French in Quebec are fascist. Don't be fooled by their demeanor. Let them try to succeed from Canada. Create their own currency, form their own army, take care of the sick and elderly, without the help of Canada. I'd love to see it, this emotional issue, which will surely fail. Let them succeed.

Re: Circling the Drain… – Horrible disasters shouldn't be politicized in my mind, and aren't about politics. The way all of the factors lined up to create this was stephen king material; frightening and kind of out of the twilight zone. One of the worst things is that the local dentist office, which could identify teeth remains, was also destroyed. Sucede, not to sucede…is a matter for another thread, the same way that the city of Calgary did not deserve the terrible flood.

  42. @v@ says – reply to this

Re: Circling the Drain… – Part of being a decent human being is holding your neighbour's hand when they fall off the roof until the ambulance gets there; even if you voted one way and he voted another. At the end of the day, love is the key. Anyway, with your view in consideration, the riding of LacMagantic? It voted pro Canada in the last federal election; their current MP is Conservative Christian Paradis…not a separatist in any way. Not that it should matter one iota when it comes to offering unconditional support in this kind of situation.
