Cory Monteith Died Amidst Growing Deadly Fentanyl Drug Craze In Vancouver; 23 Deaths From It This Year!!!

cory monteith vancouver fentanyl drug problem

We still have no idea what took Cory Monteith from us way too soon. So at this point, fans are just looking at every angle to try to find a reason for this tragedy.

The Glee star was an admitted addict, so naturally many are wondering if a relapse was to blame.

Well, if Cory did fall off the drug-free wagon, Vancouver was a scary place to do it. The British Columbia city is currently in the throes of a deadly new drug craze.

Fentanyl, a powerful prescription pain medication, is becoming a popular additive to heroin. The deadly mix has reportedly already caused at least 23 deaths in Vancouver just this year. Dr. Perry Kendall says:

"You never know what's in a street drug within very large margins. Some of it is cut with fentanyl, some of it is actually fentanyl."

Fentanyl has also become popular stateside on the streets of Chicago, Philadelphia, and Detroit.

Whether this has anything to do with Cory's death we have no idea, but it's one scary piece of information!

How about you stop speculating and wait for some facts? And if Cory's family chooses to keep those facts private, good for them.

HE was an addict…they die…if he did not OD, he ruined his body…he could have had heart propblems due to his past drug use…it could be many things…you play with drugs, you die…common sense…this man made choices- he died.

You're a giant puckered asshole, Mario. I know celebrity gossip isn't the highest form of journalism, but speculation in relation to a beloved actors death is not news and it's in bad taste.

Although, most of what you do is in bad taste so I'm not that surprised.

omg.. don't act like Vancouver is the drug capital of the world. Drugs are everywhere, small town big cities. He is a addict. He made his choices…it killed him.

    Quit your fear-mongering fuckhole.

first I'm hearing about it and I live here. don't spread rumors about our city. you have many readers who will believe anything. chances are that he mixed some prescription meds and it didn't go down well. and weren't you supposed to be his friend? stop speculating and wait for the damn autopsy…

Re: the – SO AGREE! This is how rumors start. Chill out, we'll all find out soon enough. Isn't Bieber being a douche somewhere? Leave Cory's friends and family to grieve without your constant conjecture.

Why don't you wait until there's some answers before you throw this sort of shit out there. I'm from BC and this is the 1st I've heard of this Fentanyl craze up here… quit spreading lies!

  9. Jessca W says – reply to this

You are a complete idiot to spread like about BC. Shut your fucking mouth. I won't be going your site again.

Fentanyl is not any new deadly drug craze. It's a prescription drug that can be very helpful to many and very damaging to those who choose to use it improperly, like even multivitamins can be. A drug addict accidentally killed himself. Yes it's sad but it shouldn't be shocking. How about you wait to hear the cause of death before you jump to conclusions? There is no evidence the person even used Fentanyl.

  11. SnugglesL says – reply to this

Ill-informed about Vancouver. Educate yourself before spreading that shit around.
(No I am not from, nor currently living in Vancouver, but I do visit quite often.)

  12. greg says – reply to this

23 deaths in BC, not Vancouver, from a drug no one who lives here has ever heard of. Maybe your interns should spend more time fact checking instead of speculating.

Re: Crowley – actually, it is "gossip" when you are jumping to conclusions and linking it to a celebrity that has just passed away and whose cause of death has yet to be determined. FACT.

  15. Quak says – reply to this

Vancouver was a scary place to do it? What a stupid comment. Fentanyl overdoses have been on the rise for years and are quite popular in your own shit country. Do some research.

Why is the 12-Step RELIGIOUS AA/NA CULT'S "HIGHER POWER" failing so many people?

A REAL "HIGHER POWER" would work 100% of the time!

  17. Be-Atch says – reply to this

I still say Lea Michel's nose could snort up a bungalow…the broad has a BIG NOSE !

  18. whatever says – reply to this

Wait they put chemicals in drugs now? How the fuck do you get clicks on this shit excuse for a media outlet.

  19. Ryan says – reply to this

    Re: jason

I am also from Vancouver… this is actually true. Global and CTV have covered this before.

  20. Isabelle says – reply to this

Re: the – How unsensitive you must be. Oh, well he died. Idiot.

  21. 21

Either way his body probably couldn't handle whatever damage he did to it using whatever drug/s he was using. He had his whole life ahead of him..it's sad, but as cold as it sounds he made the choice and in the end it was too late to get out of it on time. May he R.I.P.

  22. lilblouseontheprairie says – reply to this

There's a guy that's dead. You're picking at the remains. That makes you a vulture.

  23. Alex says – reply to this

This is ridiculous… Perez you don't know anything about Vancouver… ignorant asshole

  24. Mikela says – reply to this

Geez. Way to respect him and his family. Why don't you just speculate in private with your friends and not people who believe everything you say.

  25. Andrea says – reply to this

I have a chronic disease called SCLERODERMA & if I do not use Fentanyl patches I will be in the WORSE PAIN IMAGINABLE! I pray this is not a Fent overdose bc then it just makes it harder & harder for me to get the meds I NEED to live!
God bless Cory! I am saddened by his death but pls make this about a "Drug" problem @ NOT a FENTANYL PROBLEM! :(

  26. BigGuy says – reply to this

Not drugs. Some heart problem that has as its first indication sudden death, like crazy beats or messed up valves. Things like that are more common in taller men who are in shape in their 20's and 30's.

As a result of his death, and Gondolfini's, a lot of bankable movie and tv stars in the 20's, 30's , and 40's are going to be getting stress tests, no matter how good looking they are.

  27. Tiff says – reply to this

The deaths were not just in Vancouver..what a broad, idiotic statement. Probably more deaths related to Krispy Kreme and KFC then any fentanyl. What a gross thing to say to Vancouver and to the memory of Cory Monteith.

  28. Alysha says – reply to this

This is bullshit. we've never heard of this drug in vancouver and its downright disrespectful to link the two.

  29. Sr. Merry Q. Contrary says – reply to this

What a wonderful example of jumping to conclusions and making connections between unassociated facts. Getting a warning out about fentanyl is a totally legitimate story. Cory's death and to-date undetermined cause of death is also a legitimate story. Linking the two — irresponsible without further facts.

  30. Jason says – reply to this

This is the worst piece of tabloid "journalism" I've ever seen.
"Fantanyl craze" what the actual fuck does that even mean. There are 2 million people in the Vancouver area and nearly 3 million in BC. 23 people die from overdosing on a prescription pain killer. So you link it to a high profile celebrity death with still unknown causes. This is how rumours start, and contributes to the general american ignorance of the rest of the world.

  31. Addiction Myth says – reply to this

First you have to admit you are powerless over your addiction. Then you have to choose a god to remove the character defects that cause the cravings to use — a process that can take years. (Generally people don't "find god" until middle age.) In the mean time, you are powerless over the drugs, and for a suggestible and susceptible person like an actor, this 'cure' can be deadly.

It's time to end the destructive myth known as "Addiction".
