Cory Monteith's Father Speaks Out On Son's Tragic Death In TV Interview

| Filed under: CanadialandDrugsR.I.P.Sad SadLea MicheleCory Monteith

When we heard Cory Monteith's father was unable to see his son before cremation, we didn't want to believe it to be true!

Unfortunately, Joe Monteith confirmed to Entertainment Tonight Canada that he did not get to see Cory after his tragic death.

Following her son's passing, Cory's mother, Ann McGregor, reportedly held a viewing at the hospital with Lea Michele, and his older brother Shaun.

Joe remembers the moment when he first heard of the tragedy:

“When they did break the news to my wife, she almost fell over, in fact I had to grab her. And I did ask them again what was that you said? It didn’t really sink in."

Joe was estranged from Cory until recent years, but recalled how the family first started finding out about their son's illegal drug use:

“I guess he was involved a little more in drugs than anybody knew at the time. His mother who was there with him all the time, she started picking up on it, you know stuff was missing, money here, stuff like that.”

The 31-year-old actor died July 13 at the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel in Vancouver after mixing heroin and alcohol.

This is still so heartbreaking.

What is so tragic about a junkie dying?

You know what's tragic here? Cory probably turned to drugs because he was abandoned by his father during his formative years. Having no male role model will do that to you. Mr. Montieth needs to look in the mirror for answers. I'm sure some of the demons Cory faced were in relation to his upbringing. Not saying it excuses it all, but to start using at 13, there is a problem in the home. I find it really sad. I wonder when Joe patched things up with Cory. After he was famous, maybe?

You're a heartless asshole. It's tragic that a young man with a great deal of potential died. His addiction doesn't define him. Now go ride off on your high horse.

Is he gonna be another Michael Lohan ? If he wasn't allowed to watch Cory for a last time before the cremation , I'm sure there's was a good explanation and this gives us a glimpse to the truth . I mean , what Kind of father gives an interview just a few days after his son's tragic death ?. He shouldn't be on tv , he should be grieving like a normal dad . I think a lot a crazy fans a way sadder than this guy … How much money did he made talking on tv ? Poor Cory .

Really….I love how you all just make assumptions about what started his addiction it could have been a number of things….like you jakeysmom you have no right to point the finger when you have no idea what the specifics of this situation involved. Lets just see it for what it is another tragic ending to a talented celebrity…. Which unfortunately seems to be happening way too much
