Lea Michele Made The Call For Glee To Go On After Cory Monteith's Death, Says Ryan Murphy

lea michele ryan murphy decided glee should continue

What a hard decision to make!

But Lea Michele has been so strong since Cory Monteith's passing that we're not surprised to hear she made such a brave decision in regard to the new season of Glee.

Ryan Murphy opened up about deciding to delay Glee's production but still move forward with the upcoming season. And as it turns out, he had nothing to do with the final call!

He revealed:

"Ultimately the person who made the decision was Lea, who felt that the best thing for the cast and crew was to be together and to get back to work and be together every day and talk about our memories of him. So we decided to do that with Lea's blessing and we're going to go back to work and have grief counselors on the set for two weeks because people are really hurting."

It is hard to disagree especially when someone as close to Cory as Lea feels like this is something she needs.

But we have to admit it's nice to hear that Ryan would have done whatever was best for her right now, even if that meant canceling the show as he added:

"If Lea had said to me, 'I could never do this again and I don't want to do this again,' you know, she is sort of the show, so what do you do? And I would've, out of respect to her as a person, said 'OK,' but that's not how Lea operates; that's not how she feels. She's handled this with so much humanity and grace and she's also handled this in a way where she's trying to look out for 500 other people affected by him and who have mortgages to pay and families to feed … I've never met any 26-year-old person stronger than Lea. She's really been the leader in this situation."

All we can really say is wow.

Lea's braveness is incredible and the support she has gotten from her friends and coworkers is absolutely amazing.

We hope the whole cast and crew can get through this most difficult time together and pay tribute to Cory's memory in the best way possible.

Cory made her a better person. I hope she doesn't blame herself for his passing. She gave him something he needed, faith and trust. He just wasn't ready to go back to Vancouver to those dickhead so called friends of his.it is a shame and I hope people realize it can happen to anyone. Even clean cut, smart, I telling end people. Stop glamorizing drug use.

Re: Yeah Whatever Asshole – Completely agree. I'm sure Lea's feelings had ANYTHING to do with this decision.

I agree with Lea for her decision to go ahead of the filming of Glee,That is good for her and go on with her life. Although I miss both of them so much.

What a bunch of crap. They know damn well they wouldn't have canceled a successful show based on this chicks decision. They're making this statement to get more viewers and could care less what little Lea Michele does.

I am SO SO SO sick of hearing about how brave and strong Lea is. It is sickening to those who have worked with her an know the type of person she actually is. There's no way his death would stop her from going on with the show, she most likely would have went back to work the very next day. Has absolutely nothing to do with bravery or being strong. People can believe what they want, but she is not a nice person at all, very cold-hearted and it's absolutely sickening that this suddenly became about her, but then she turns everything into being about her.

Re: Denny6714 – It would have been hard for Glee to continue without Rachel and there would have been no Rachel if Lea had quit. It would have also been a PR nightmare for FOX if they had tried to hold Lea to her contract under the circumstances. As is it is will be very difficult for the show to move forward without Finchel.

Re: Soxylady – The ratings are tanking. They're less than 1/2 of what they once were. Once that happens, a show is typically on it's way out.

Re: Yeah Whatever Asshole – You certainly picked the right user name because you are an as*hole! Yes, I'm sure Ryan is thrilled that his entire cast and crew is grieving and that his show must go on without it's most popular couple! I'm sure he thinks Glee without Finchel will be great for ratings! I bet he's also over the moon about Lea Michele's life being demolished! What is wrong with you? Are you really stupid enough and selfish enough to believe what you wrote? Or do you just delight in being a bad person?

I highly doubt that he would shut production entirely if she ask him to. People die everyday and everyone will eventually move on but as business, you should learn to separate that from personal.

    Re: ickynicky

I'll be calling bullshite on this. My brother worked at the Eugene O'Neill theatre when she was there during Spring Awakening's Broadway run and said she was very nice and always protective of the younger actors. Sounds like the same Lea we're seeing here…

Huh? Oh please. Since when did her "decision" ever even matter? She doesn't call the shots. They act like she was the producer, or it was a "Cory" show, it wasn't. It was based on a lot of characters. How can one of the actors call a whole act on a show that doesn't exclusively revolve around her fiancee?..so bullshit, or they're atleast trying to make some headlines.

Ack! I still can't get over poor Cory. It's just so incredibly sad, but Lea is very strong and that is wonderful to read. She has a good support system around her too, which is great because she is definitely going to need that. Rest in peace sweet Cory. :(

It's nice to hear that Lea is staying strong. That's great!

This EVIL JEWISH WITCH sent Cory to his DEATH with that 12-Step RELIGIOUS AA/NA CULT Treatment Center she sent him to….PURE EVIL!

  24. 24

oki stop saying paycheck and ratings the show currently only has 3 episode 2 already written one in honer of Cory a tribute and 4 them it WAS NOT CAST AND CREW IT WAS A FAMILY SO if you ever saw glee finchel is a big part there even where talks of cancelling bcause all cast and crew was hurting you go to eonline to read the full interview Ryan said "memorial for Cory , Memorial for Finn " i guess he slipped the part that they are going to kill his character btw after the 3 episodes they have than hiatus till January

Would be nice to hear what his parents wanted. All this praise for Lea & how strong she is. Great but, weird.

  26. 26

Oh my-, seriously? All you've been saying is that she's totally destroyed and crying on the floor and blah blah and now she's strong? No, we've all lost loved ones and some don't react like that…some do but that's not really strength..and really? It was her decision to keep the show going? Well that's mighty kind of her there hahaha hahaha hahaha Ryan Murphy needs to get his head out of her ass. it's so sad that i'm so sad about Cory but have to read all this garbage. i guess i don't have to read it but that's where we are.

Re: Denny6714 – Because Lea is the MAJOR actor on the show. If she had decided she could nto contiue with it - it basically would have fallen apart. SO when any show ends - for WHATEVER reason - MANY MANY people are out of jobs, not just the actos we see on tv - but all the people making it all happen! With a MAJOR actor playing a MAJOR character on the show a DECISION HAD TO BE MADE!!!!! Duh!

People reaact to death in different ways. Some people can't cope right away and hide away. Some people never get over it. Some people keep right on going because that is allo they know how to do and being busy is the way the "deal" The few interviews I have seen of her, she seems very determined and was from a very young age. Pretty much all she knows is work, so she keeps doing what she knows and keeping busy.

When my BF killed himself I was crushed. My father would not even let me cry in the house - he made me go outside! I was back at work the next day. I was actually at work when I got the news and could not leave as I was the manager on duty. My dad said "dead is dead, you can't change it. You keep going with your responsibilities." When he died 9 years ago it was a friday a.m. I left when I got the news to go help my mom make arrangements and notify people because she shut down. My sis went to job interviews and she was "daddy's girl" I wasn't. I was back at work on Monday. I don't know how much it was being strong v. just doing what I knew I was supposed to do.

Lea could be the same way - we don't really know.
