We can't imagine how hard it is for those involved with Glee to cope with Cory Monteith's sudden death.

And while many have spoken out in regard to his passing, creator Ryan Murphy has widely opened up about the struggles that have been going on.

Not only did he reveal how Lea Michele is handling all this, but he's also revealing his final conversation with Cory.

After the young actor checked into rehab thanks to an intervention with Ryan, Lea and others, things appeared to be getting better. But it seems the struggle was much harder than anyone imagined.

Ryan revealed the heartbreaking deets:

"His last words to me were, 'I want to get better,' and I always felt and continue to feel even in his death that he did, that he really wanted to fight it and he was humiliated and shamed. We reassured him that the only thing that mattered was him getting better and his job was 100 percent protected because he thought he was going to get fired."

We're so sad and are sure many others are as well that Cory couldn't win this battle.

Considering he did handle it with such determination and maturity, it's a tragedy he passed the way he did.

Our thoughts are with Cory's family and friends as they cope with this great loss.

Heartbreaking! He tried so hard and now he is gone. so sad! I have seen his perfomance(like 6 times today) with the song I´ll stand by you and I cried a lot ! His death is so different to many Hollywood celebrities (using drugs since he was a child. seems like fame and success helped him to stay clean for a while, he did not want to disappoint anyone).. He wanted to get better! He worked so hard!

    Im still missing you Cory.

Its not that he couldn't win this battle. He could've but he wasn't doing that intervention for himself..he did it for everyone else. Its not that he didn't want to get sober. He did but he felt he could handle it his own way and the truth is is that he was dabbling and he thought he could dabble in drugs and no one would know. Hell, when you do drugs you become a world class liar! Not only to everyone around you but even to yourself.
There is so much pressure to come out and say I had a problem and now Im over it and helping others. But the truth is he wasn't over it and he couldn't accept that. He was in denial. For him to accept that he wasn't working a stronger recovery to overcome his addiction is what couldve saved his life.
I think he shot to fame at a time when he was still very vulnerable to relapse. Just because you are abstinent for a period of time does not mean you are "cured" . There is much emotional recovery that needs to follow every day.
Like everyone else, I truly mourn the loss of this great young man who had a heart of gold. It is such a loss and sadly if society does not sit up and realize that we are all part of the problem then we are going to see more beloved celebrities, friends, loved ones lost to the very complex sickness that is addiction.
