Miley Cyrus Talks We Can't Stop Controversy; Confirms Single's Drug Reference

miley cyrus we cant stop censorhip

Miley Cyrus does not take kindly to being told what to do. Particularly when it has to do with her music.

While the pop star’s latest single We Can’t Stop has garnered a lot of controversy — stemming from its questionable, drug lyrics ("Miley" v. "Molly") to its equally interesting music video — Mileybird recently opened up about her frustrations on the topic.

Specifically addressing the drug references within the track, she said:

"It depends who's doing what. If you're aged ten [the lyric is] Miley, if you know what I'm talking about then you know. I just wanted it to be played on the radio and they've already had to edit it so much… ,I don't think people have a hard time understanding that I've grown up. You can Google me and you know what I'm up to — you know what that lyric is saying."

As for her music’s censorship, particularly that done by MTV UK, Miley looked to the George Zimmerman trial and explained:

"Then I'll give you an edit. I just think the world is so lame because you can shoot people in a movie and you can let people like [George] Zimmerman off on trial but you can't have someone going like this [she stimulates oral sex gesture], that is so dumb to me. The world is such a f***ed up place the last thing people need to worry about is my cute little video for 'We Can't Stop,' you know what I mean?"

She does make a good point, we'll give her that much…

the zimmerman case and violence in movies has absolutely nothing to do with her song. thats a logical fallacy right there. there are much better arguments against censorship and that is not one

The world is so f*cked up and lame. Why don't you take all that money you made as Hannah Montana (from lil fans I might ad) and use it to be a adult piece of trash. Ohhhh, you are! What is lame is your trashy mouth and having the media at your dispense to distribute it. You are far from Madonna girl.

Re: michellt – Well said! You are so correct!

  11. 11

All of you folks are correct!! I agree with every comment written so far. She sure sounds ungrateful .

She doesn't have to be a role model, but be a little self aware and look at the audience. I get she's trying to distance herself by being trashy and popping her booty, probably for that reason, but it's not happening, and it makes her look ungrateful. She's obnoxious to anyone with sense.

@silver because that's what a young person who has very little education does: speaks about topics they really know nothing about. It's immature, ignorant, and silly - but typical for a person Miley's age. Only problem is: what she says gets media attention and then other young people hear it and deem it "gospel". I hope she's able to lead a productive and healthy life some day. . . When you're idolized you can choose to influence in a positive or negative way - unfortunately, young celebrities (like Miley - and I didn't call her an "artist" on purpose) choose the negative.

Can she ever make a statement WITHOUT swearing? I'm not sensitive about it, but it's often so unnecessary and those words lose all meaning when you throw them around ALL THE TIME. If she's doing it to seem more mature, it's not working. Same thing with the constant talk/singing about drugs; it's having the opposite effect of what she's going for. It doesn't make you seem like you're cool and have so much wisdom and experience about it, it makes it seem like doing them is still a big deal to you and you want everyone to know. Adults don't have to try so hard and advertise drugs to be taken seriously. She will never convince me that she's an adult with this behaviour.

Plus, "You can Google me and you know what I'm up to…"?? Shut up, you conceited little girl. You would have done well to spend a small portion of your millions on an education… and maybe some pants.

C'mon did she really think we're that stupid, she needs to get with her PR team b/c what she says contradicts with what they said. I'm glad that she finally opens up to it, but amongst this Miley/Molly, no one seem to care about the "coke" line part.

It's the case of, "I'm cool" because I'm doing drugs or experimenting doesn't make you an adult, stop using the whole "i'm growing up" speech.

You know what people?! She is a human being and you lot are pathetic assholes! She is who she is, I know she used to Hannah Montana, but that not who she is. If she want to use drugs or weed. That's her choice, she is a grown up woman. And you lot fucking need to learn how to resecpt other people!! I like her cos she is fucking nice person!! So if you don't resecpt her or worse, well fuck you!! You just jealous cos she damn rich and famous also she got her sexy beau - Liam Hemsworth!! Even tho they are on rocks, they are staying strong, and that's good for them! They both love each other. You got to stop judging her, so she changed, so what? Get over it, it's her life, not yours! Is she bad person? NO she's not if you don't like her, fine! Can't you people leave her alone!?

My cute video for "We Can't Stop"? Did she really just say her vid and song was cute? Don't make me laugh. Miley, you were cute 6 years ago, you're a sellout now and everything you stand for is a disgrace. Little kids look up to you because back then you told people to be themselves and you had good morals. Hopefully your album flops again like your last one and your singing career ends because this is not how you prove to me that you've grown up. I can't believe I'm saying this, but Miley, I'm ashamed to be in the same generation as you. It's not like I'm decades older than you, I'm one damn year older than you! You're 21 and I'm 22. I conduct myself 10000x better than any mega rich celebrity ever could. How sad. Grow the fuck up and act like a 22 year old, otherwise kiss your young fans goodbye. I'm not surprised if you lost most of them already because you sure as lost me as a fan 3 years ago with that atrocious Can't Be Tamed album!

Can you all give her a break? She is 20! Do you remember 20? I do, and let me say if I had cameras in my face all the time.. I would have looked a lot worse than Miley (and I wasn't using drugs, just a rebellious kid learning how to become an adult). Cut her some slack and maybe it will be OK. All of the negative comments force these negative behaviours (in society/global conscious way). We're all human, we all make mistakes and we were all developing adults at one point. Plus, spewing negativity all over the place can't make you feel that good - can it? You must be pretty unhappy with your life to keep posting negative comments (a direct comment to some of the "commenters" here). :-)

PS: We all develop differently and some of us have a hard time adjusting. Really, who are we to judge? We know nothing about her. And, she is still sticking with the message of "told people to be themselves" (I'm sorry, I just had to say it :-) )

Why is everyone so focused on the "Molly" lyric. It's not her only reference to drugs in her song. "And everyone in line in the bathroom, trying to get a LINE in the bathroom". What drug do you do lines of that are commonly done in club bathrooms? Cocaine. Has no one else caught on to that one.

She WANTS to lose the young fans. She is obviously deeply resentful toward her child star image. Parents are supposed to step in and give her the skinny on how not to be gauche, tacky and the method of shut your mouth. She's on drugs? Then shut up. Re: John
