So, so sad.

An American tourist who demanded to keep singing along with a Thailand bar's karaoke band was killed by one of the musicians in a brawl outside the establishment.

According to a local Thai police official, Dallas businessman Bobby Ray Carter Jr. was 51 years old when he died in a hospital far away from his home in Texas, after being stabbed in the chest from the altercation that happened early Wednesday morning at Ao Nang beach in Thailand's Krabi province.

Bobby and his son, Adam, had reportedly gotten drunk, started singing with the band, and refused to leave the stage to let other customers sing along.

Reportedly, things escalated into a heated argument between Bobby and the band after he knocked over their tip jar, and finally he was stabbed in the chest with a metal rod in the scuffle that ensued outside the Little Longhorn Saloon.

Meanwhile, his son sustained injuries to the head.

All three band members were arrested. There are conflicting reports about whether or not they face charges of assault and murder, or causing death by physical attack.

What terrible news! Our hearts are with the Carters in this tough time.

Just goes to show you can't be obnoxious anywhere because you never know who you're going to piss off to the point of no return. It's sad when anyone dies in such a violent way, but also a lesson to people to respect others and their countries while traveling.

Stupid Texan's acting like dumb asses….no one should've died, but this is why americans are hated over seas. Americans should think twice before they go to primitive countries.

Re: lacroix – I'm sure the Thai people appreciate you calling them "primative". There was no reason this man should have been stabbed. Ans as far as Americans acting disrespectful overseas, clearly you've never delt a great del with Japanese tourist.

No wonder why the rest of the world hates America.
You cannot go to another country and act like you are at home.
Obnoxious Americans unfortunately ruin it for the rest of America.
Unfortunately, from my extensive travel experience, most Americans act like they are in America when they are in a foreign country.
They demand people speak english and demand to have the same level of service.
Do the rest of the world a favor, STAY IN AMERICA IF YOU WANT YOUR VACATION TO BE AMERICAN.

You said it perfectly. It's unfortunate but the rest of the world wants nothing to do with Americans when they travel. They are looked at as obnoxious and out of touch with the rest of the world.

Having too much to drink (at a drinking establishment) and losing your manners deserved a bouncer, not a death. It's murder. I'm surprised at this, as musicians see all kinds of bad behavior, and it usually just becomes another story for them to tell.

Re: lacroix – Thailand enjoys a high level of literacy. Their average I.Q. scores tops the U.S.

Bobby Ray was a close friend of our family. You can't believe everything that comes out in the press. The truth is this bar lets you sing with the band. Bobby Ray was there with his wife, son, and friends. He sang with the band a few times and was tipping them well. Once he stopped tipping, the band got mad at him. When they left the bar, the band was outside on break and tried to start a fight with them. Bobby Ray told them he didn't want any trouble and they tried to leave. Then, they were attacked. Bobby Ray was stabbed twice in the chest with an iron rod, once in the heart. His son didn't suffer a head injury, he had his arm almost completely sliced off with the same weapon that killed his father. He was trying to defend his dad. I've seen pictures of Adam's arm and it was almost completely severed. He had to have surgery. So, before you start blaming Bobby Ray for being "obnoxious" or whatever, consider that you can't always believe what comes out in the media. Thailand is trying to protect their reputation as a tourist spot by making it sound like it was Bobby Ray's fault. No matter what happened, he didn't deserve to die. Especially right in front of his wife, son, and friends while his 18 month old baby was waiting for him back at the hotel with the babysitter. This is a tragedy and very very sad for all of his friends and family. We will miss him and his wonderful sense of humor and kind heart.

Re: pixy – you left out where his wife was pistol whipped by these "extremely intelligent people". Intelligence doesn't make you a good person, or a sane person. This was murder, pure and simple. Bobby was my step-dad's business parter at LEDCL, and it's been a horrible week for all involved. Thank you Perez for your decency in your post.

Unfortunately, this story is inaccurate. The musicians were armed and started the fight as reported by a Phuketwan Reporter, Sunday, August 11, 2013. Mr. Carter and his family were walking away from the disrespect the musicians were demonstrating towards Mr. Carter's wife at the time, and the musicians followed them out of the bar and attacked Bobby and his son. No one was drunk and horribly, Mr. Carter lost his life for no reason. Such a tragedy.

Believe me the man that got stabbed was being very obnoxious and arrogant as well were the rest of his party. I was there a few days before and left after one drink due to him being rude to the bar people and band, singing mustang sally out of tune and thinking that everyone wanted to listen to him over and over again he was quite a bully in many respects. They were all loud and acted like they owned the place, I felt uncomfortable and left and never went back to that bar during my stay. Obviously it is a shame he died though but Thai people are generally very forgiving and passive but if you push and push then there will be a fight and as this man was quite large maybe the only way to stop him was to stab him!! Shame as the

Shame as there would of been better ways of teaching him a lesson in respect and manners. As for some of the posting below from friends, you were not there!! The press only report what they know and there are always 2 sides but from what I saw with my own eyes is that this man was very obnoxious. Interesting that the mans current wife is causing some ripples in his will with his family, I wonder why? -
