Filling in well known, YA novel roles can be more than daunting — given that fandoms have totes ca-ray-zay expectations. From Twilight to Divergent and, of course, Hunger Games…
So it comes as no surprise that actors Sam Claflin and Jena Malone had to jump through hoops for their respective roles of Finnick and Johanna. During an interview with Glamour magazine, they revealed some deets on their audition process.
“I know they saw every single actress from here till Tuesday. They wanted to find someone who didn’t just physicalize this character but could also scare people. I don’t know what I did—I guess I scared the hell out of them.”
LOLS! She must have!
As for Sam, it sounds like the recently married actor was more than convinced he didn’t stand a chance at playing the hunky swimmer:
“Finnick is supposed to be this godlike creature. I remember sitting in the audition room and this kid walked in. He was seriously one of the most handsome men I’ve ever seen. And I was just, Nah, this is never going to happen.”
Oh, what we’d give to see these audition tapes! And a good look at that handsome devil!
