Yayyy for marriage equality on TV!

Modern Family is addressing modern times, and the recent legalization of same-sex marriage in California for their fall premiere!

Can we get a televised GAY-LLELUJAH?!

Last night, the cast did a table read for the first episode of season 5 for Emmy voters at Fox studios, and executive producer, Steve Levitan, pleaded that tweeters not give away too much about the equality plot!

Jeffrey Richman, who wrote the episode, titled, “Suddenly Last Summer,” which premieres September 25, joked about the June 26 Supreme Court ruling:

“I’m gay, and I was happier as a writer. It was great for the gays, too.”

He said the creative staff started writing a story before the decision was made final, so if the ruling went the other way, it would've been an awful feeling!

So…

Will Mitch (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and Cam (Eric Stonestreet) have a fabulously gay wedding with their adopted daughter, Lily, as their flower girl and Gloria (Sofia Vergara) as the wedding officiant?!

Guess we'll have to wait until September to get the whole story, but we know it will be AH-mazingly equal and full of laughs!

Congratulations to the gay community in making such progress. It is difficult to perceive how a group of people who have been so persecuted and marginalized, in turn, stigmatize, marginalize and criminalize members of their community who are living with HIV. Yes, equality for all.
