One Direction's Best Song Ever VS. The Who's Baba O'Riley! Did 1D Steal Their #1 Song?!?

| Filed under: AnglophiliaMusic MinuteLegal MattersOne DirectionGIFs

one direction the who rip off

One Direction danced all night to the Best Song Ever. They knew every line, but now they can't remember!

Umm, we think we just figured out what you guys were dancing to…

The Who's Baba O'Riley!

Well, that's what some are saying anyway, with new accusations that the British boy band jacked the beats of the English rock legends!

Oh, Oh, Oh! No, No, No!!!

The opening riff on 1D's song is being called a total rip off by Who fans, and some are even saying the classic rockers could SUE the young dudes of One Direction for stealing their song!

One Direction's producer Julian Bunetta spoke out about the controversial coincidence, and even admitted that there ARE similarities between the songs! Bunetta said:

"At a certain point we recognised it had the same type of intro where there’s a synth and a piano, but we really tried to make sure that there was no intellectual property stolen or anything like that."

Directioners around the world aren't taking this news lying down though! Fans of the pop group flocked to the teenage wasteland of Twitter to start the #DontTouchBestSongEver campaign to try and protect their beloved boy band from any lawsuit!

To hell with what a court says! We want YOU to be the judge!

Click PLAY below to hear both songs!

Does One Direction's Best Song Ever sound an awful lot like The Who???

its obvious the drum pattern is a more simplified but direct rip off of Keith Moons part.

That one direction video is horrible. The entire set up in the office was so boring and cheesy. Not only did they rip off the Who they basically ripped off Tom Cruise. Not sure how or why a record producer would so obviously steal the opening of a song like that.

At least they admitted the similarities Katy and her copycats are still on the run with Sara Bareilles song.

This is my first listen to the song and my first thought was…aren't these a bit too simular to the lyrics of Tenacious D - Tribute?

I was shocked. At first I thought there wasn't going to be any similarities but when I got to the One Direction song, my jaw dropped. It's waaay too close. I don't think it's just similarities, the producer downright stole it.

I thought it was an intentional cover it sounds almost spot on (the opening riff) Surely Baba O'Reilly is too big of a song to accidently cover.

They do have a small similarities a few notes that has been being repeated over and over again on the whole song, but the rest of the music is entirely different.

It's so funny how haters see a small hole and make a big deal out of it. like the comment of "dddff" if you are bored at their office set up they are not forcing you to watch it.

im not a one direction fan but come on seriously!?

Complete rip in the intro and some of the chords throughout the song. I'm a huge, huge fan of The Who but if I'm Pete Townshend, I would be delighted that they sampled it. Maybe some of these kids will her Baba O' Riley and appreciate true greatness. : ).

I also know some of these kids like The Who, Stones, etc…. At least they picked a great song to steal.

The drumming is awful - sounds like a poorly programmed sequencer, which it probably is. Comaprisons to Keith Moon are an exercise in futility. The rest of the 'song' is the usual contemporary producer mish mash tacked onto trite lyrics so beloved by the emotionally retarded.
I'm sure Messrs Daltrey & Townshend are having a good giggle about it

It's a total rip off! Doesn't surprise me as I had noticed a song my niece was listening of theirs that sounded like a total rip off of the Clash's "Should I Stay Or Should I Go". Either way both bands are superior.

Re: Just Passing By – Please, that opening is a classic, and a blatant rip off.

Re: Just Passing By – There are a few tweaks, but the beginning,

middle, and end are all the same.

Re: Ruth – No… I love that song but there are no similarities aside from maybe 1 or 2
