Secretly... I love how when I wrote #ROAR I was just trying to write a song about being a mega cat lady. Shhh, don't tell anyone. 🐯— Katy Perry (@k… Read more…
LOL Stand down Katy Perry … she may have tried to write a song … but professional writers did most of the work:
Katy Perry Lukasz Gottwald Max Martin Bonnie McKee Henry Walter
Dr. Luke Max Martin Cirkut
Exactly. The only reason she gets credit is because she sells so many records she insists on it. Fact is her talent is performing — unlike Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift who actually write their own songs.
"I was just trying to write a song" and then i couldn't so i hired four professional song writers to do it for me. it's actually kind of mind blowing that it took that many people to write such a simple sounding song. i mean didn't it only take sara bareilles and one other person to write "brave" which is basically the same song?
Re: AttFinch –
So true…too funnny, LOL
blech, hilarious Katy you are so witty, and DARK, oh oh and EDGY! LOLOLOLOL
Re: jnp – What makes you think you know exactly how much Katy contributed to the writing of her songs? Were you there in the room with them when the song was put together from start to finish?
Do you think less of Bono, the singer for U2, because he doesn't write all the guitar, keyboard, and drum parts? Face it, in most pop/rock bands it is usually a collaboration. There's often a few people who are LEAD songwriters but it's usually four or five people (including producers) who add their expertise to a song. As far as I've heard, Katy is usually a lead songwriter who mainly focuses on the lyrics and making the song "work" with her unique singing voice and style. That is a lot harder than you might think. Bono does the same thing along with a little guitar on some songs.
Go watch U2's documentary movie "From the Sky Down" if you want to get a better idea of how the music gets made. Often, one person in the band (like Katy) or a producer sits around and just listens to certain riffs, piano parts, drums or a bass line and then he/she gets a gut feeling that there's a song in there somewhere.
Sometimes the band member who came up with that music piece can't see the potential for a song in there. Then, that little seed of a song grows out from there into the finished product … everyone in the room adding their piece to it like a Christmas tree. That's how U2's smash hit song "One" from the "Achtung Baby" album was created.
Max Martin and Dr Luke have produced most of the big pop singles in the last decade, look it up. These two are no joke. He co wrote and produced most of Katy's singles from Teenage dreams, without the big production team Katy Perry has no legs to stand on.
It bothers me when singers claim to be the writers of songs when they might have contributed a word here and there. It's total BS. If she had said … when i CO WROTE I would've been fine, but to try and pass off a song as your own creation when it clearly isn't … honeychild who you tryin to fool?!
Re: Chicklette – Did you know that five people collaborated with Gaga for her hit song "Telephone"? A guy named Nadir Khayat helped Gaga write her biggest hit song "Bad Romance". Check it out for yourself on Wikipedia. Most musicians have about 3 or 4 collaborators. It's been like that for a long time.
Weird…. I thought she got the "inspiration" while listening to Sara B's Brave.
Re: someguy2621 – Please don't compate Katy Perry to U2, second you seem to confuse writing lyrics with the process of actually coming up with melodies and instrumentation. Having a co writer is fine. However please don't tell me that it took 5 writers to come up with the lyrics to songs like Roar lol. Katy Perry is not a band, she's a product. Remove the label backed producers and professional song writers and Katy Pery would be singing for change on a corner somwhere, she might not even make the cut to American Idol …. her songs are catchy though, however she has nothing to do with that. You can thank Max Martin and Dr Luke for that.
Re: someguy2621 – Not everything on earth is a comparison to Lady Gaga, bbut since you brought it up, sure Telephone had an army of writers, however the rest of the songs on the Fame Monster had between two and three writers. Check the writing credits for Teenage Dream, out of 12 tracks , 3 of them had 3 writers or less … that's pretty telling. Lady Gaga's FAME , FAME MONSTER and Born This Way are mostly co written with another writer sometimes 2. So check your facts before you try to compare #TruthTea
Re: Nic-Nak – Katy said that she finished recording that song "Roar" back in March. She wrote parts of her hit song "Part of Me" a few YEARS before it was released last year. Sometimes they put songs on the back burner and finish them later … "in the can" like they say in Hollywood.
Sara Berelles released her song "Brave" in the spring I hear (April?). It's inevitable that some songs are going to sound similar. A lot of modern day pop music has been made in the last 50-60 years you know.
Did you know that radio was invented by two inventors around the same time? The two inventors didn't have a clue that someone else was working on the same ideas. Marconi ended up getting the credit because he filed the patents first I recall. Maybe there's some sort of weird subatomic ether out there that's telepathic or something. Musicians can tune into each other somehow because they are "on the same wavelength". Never know.
Re: someguy2621 –
Well we already know that she takes liberties with the truth, she claims to have written Roar, in reality she co wrote it with a team of writers. Also, Sara and Katy belong to the same umbrella label. Who's to say she didn't hear Sara's song before it was released? #Justsayin
Re: Nic-Nak – lol well said…
or when she was listening to sara bareilles' brave?
I mean seriously, did her and 4 professional writers sit down and dress up like cats or something?
I knew by the simplicity of this song, that it must have been written one drunken evening. Thanks for clarifying.
I'm guessing she may have been listening to an early copy of Brave. Buy Katy's song and then go buy Sara's song. The least Katy fans can do is spend $1.29 on Sara Bareilles - Brave. The Blessed Unrest is a great album.
Re: someguy2621 – R U Perez?
who this bitch think she's kidding? not that the lyrics are anything genius its the production that make it a good pop song. And the line about stnding for nothing and falling for anything is a very famous quote :/ People need to realize that when you become a big popstar u can demand that you get your name on the credits because thats how you get the big publishing money from sales & radio play etc. But in truth you only have to contribute a few words or lines…then a professional writer takes them and makes them into a proper song and then a tune is added by somebody else and then the producer creates the overall sound. any idiot can write a few cliched lines!
Re: Sdresident – Come now fellas, Brave has nothing to do with Roar. Roar was recorded in Marce and Brave in April. Only thing similar is the debut of the song cause of their respective voices. Bref, if KP did not write the song herself, she wouldn't be the first artist, or the last.
Re: jnp – You just sht yourself in the leg alone buddy. Now: Remove the label backed producers and professional song writers from all the artists you mentioned including (lady gaga, taylor swift, beyoncé, etc etc) and then you'll have a simple person. NO matter how good your song writing is, you always have professional song writer to help put certain lyrics in place. So before telling someone to get their facts right, make sure you've actually worked with artists before claiming who writes their own songs are not. Peace!
Re: jnp – Well sounds like they did, since she wanted to write about a big-ass cat. lol
She's awesome. Gaga is a Madonna wannabe.
Oly MJ can a write a good song when it comes to popular music he even shy to admit he wrote instead others claim to be their own infact isn't how ridiculous singers nowadays. They claim themselves for being famous for a just a two hit song. Goodness!
