John Mayer Says Katy Perry's Writing Was The Missing Piece On Duet

john mayer katy perry duet who you love writing

We really hope on-again, off-again couple John Mayer and Katy Perry can stay on-again for good this time!

The couple is obvi adorable from the outside, but it turns out they're perfect for each other somewhere else, too!

No, not the bedroom! Well, yeah, hopefully there too, but we're talking about the recording studio! John recently released a duet with his Katy cat called, appropriately, Who You Love.

John says he had the basic idea for the song, his part of it anyway, for a long time. But it wasn't until he had the idea of collaborating with his lady love Katy that it became complete. He said:

"I'd be so nervous to do it if I didn't feel like it was actually a really great thing, and so I played it for her and she really got it right off the bat… she started singing along with the record, and with this little demo - it was just a verse and a chorus - and it was really fun. Believe it or not, I really enjoyed the exercise. You don't normally get to hear from the girl you're writing a song to. You don't normally get to hear it from her on the same song, so I really enjoyed what her point of view was gonna be when she wrote it. She wrote this killer verse from her point of view, and it's really deep. We get four lines each, but she's a great writer and can get those four lines. There's a lot of pressure when you date somebody from what your friends say, or what you think you think, what you think you feel you know."

Having a girl serenade you with the song you wrote about her- yep, that's a pretty new one alright! Now if only John could meet a singing Wildfire! LOLz!

I seriously doubt that John is saying these good things about Katy just because she's his girlfriend now. I think he really does respect her as an artist … performer, singer, guitarist, songwriter, etc. He might not like ALL of her songs though. That's to be expected. John's music is different than hers. Katy might not like ALL of John's music either.

I'm sure when Katy first sang her part for "Who You Love" he was impressed and said to himself "wow, this girl just hit it out of the park … she really DOES know what she's doing."

I don't understand why Gaga's monsters keep saying that someone else writes ALL of Katy's music. They don't know what her background is. Katy has even written a few songs for OTHER musicians … like country song "Bullet". If you look at pictures and videos of Katy on YouTube, you'll see that she's been a very determined girl trying to learn music and songwriting since she was like 13 years old. She started young like Taylor Swift did. Watch Katy's 3D movie "Part of Me" for details.

i have nothing against katy perry but you seem to be a bit confused about who is writing her biggest hits. here's a few titles and how many writers are credited for them.
    I Kissed A Girl-4 writers
    Waking Up In Vegas-3 writers
    California Gurls-5 writers
    Teenage Dream-5 writers
    Firework-5 writers
    Last Friday Night-4 writers
    Wide Awake-5 writers
    Roar-5 writers

That's so sweet of Katy to take in and care for a wasting-away AIDS Patient….

Re: AttFinch – I never said that Katy writes every song all by herself. Very few of the top musicians do … unless you are Prince and know how to play 4 or 5 instruments well and know how to be a producer and mix and so forth.

If you are a Gaga monster, maybe you are confused about who is writing her biggest hits. here's a few titles and how many writers are credited for them.

Born This Way - 4 writers
    Telephone - 5 writers
    Just Dance - 3 writers
The Edge of Glory - 3 writers
    Poker Face - 2 writers
    Alejandro - 2 writers
    Paparazzi - 2 writers
    Judas - 2 writers
    Love Game - 2 writers

Do you think that Gaga wrote every one of her well known songs all by herself? Do you expect her to write all of them by herself? How many writers working on a song is a "bad thing"? 2, 3, 4, 5? Does it diminish Lady Gaga in your view if she has 4 or 5 writers working on one of her songs?

Do you think less of Bono from U2 if he didn't write all of the U2 songs all by himself? Paul McCartney didn't write all of his songs for the Beatles. Do you think less of him? I hear Whitney Houston was strictly a performer and couldn't write much of anything.

Re: someguy2621 – wow you really LOVE katy perry don't you. and by the way, what did my comment have to do with lady gaga? i seriously hope you aren't comparing the pop songs that perry performs that are mostly written by hired writers to the songs of U2 or The Beatles. it's one thing to have a writing partner that you are part of a band with, it's another to have your label hire the so called hottest writers/producers of the day to churn out little pop songs that will most likely be forgotten within the next five years or so.

    Re: someguy2621
Please don't compare Katy Perry to U2 , Whitney Houston or The Beatles. These people's talents speak for themselves. Katy Perry is a manufactured product. Without her army of professional writers, producers, image consultants, stylists, marketing team she would be singing for pocket change on the street somewhere and probably not making that much money either because face it the girl is not a great singer. She's never done a real live performance without backing tracks that actually sounded decent. What I dislike the most is the fact that she calls herself a song writer, it's so misleading. Katy Perry could not come up with any of her hit songs without the help of professional hit makers. Personally, I enjoy her singles, they are fun and catchy but she's just the vocals on a slick label backed power team of hit makers laughing all the way to the bank.
