    Dark Horse!

  6. 6

    Ugh..she is sooooo overrated.

  7. jnp says – reply to this

LOL Lord, you were ragging about Lady Gaga RUSHING a second single in Sept and how it was a sign of Applause bombing. But it's okay if Katy Perry releases a second single a few weeks after releasing Roar ….. #Transparent #Obsession

Oh is it just me or does it sound like she's singing "you want to play with my dick" in the first snippet.

In regards to the two songs, her and her people have been telling us that she's going in a new direction blah blah, im sorry these songs sound like they could be from Teenage Dream part 3. Songs are okay, nothing earth shattering.

I liked Dark Horse, was like "Yeahh, this is nice!", then…. That disgusting deep voice thing artists love so much came up at the end and it ruined it for me. The second song, eh, I don't know. Feels like it has been done before.

  9. 9

I think Katy Perry's career is failing because it's hard to know who she is, when she doesn't know who she is.

  10. 10

Re: jnp – agree with everything you said!

  11. Casey says – reply to this

    Gah definitely Dark Horse! LOVE

  12. 12

I think both of these songs song equally good so far. Kind of a tough decision. Of course the Gaga monsters in here like jnp and f*ck the bullies are going to say that both songs are bad. Why? Because they simply like Gaga and they root for her like she's a football team or something. Gaga's fans are probably the nastiest fan base in pop music so it's no surprise.

  13. 13

    Re: someguy2621 – actually… I prefer katy over gaga… You don't know me…
    I think these songs r nothing new… Yet they aren't bad…

  14. jnp says – reply to this

Re: someguy2621 – I'm a gaga monster? Say wha? Offering an opinion on Katy Perry that is not favourable doesn't mean im a Gaga Monster whatever that is.

You on the other hand clearly are a fan of hers, which is fine. But re read my comment, I didn't say the songs were bad, I said they were similar to what shes already released in the past and they aren't that great. She's also not a very good singer.

  15. Dan says – reply to this

Re: jnp – I don't think this is her releasing a 2nd single just releasing another full song ahead of the album release for promotional purposes. Obviously Roar is not bombing considering it is one of the biggest hits of the year.

  16. Butera Marie says – reply to this

    Dark Horse. Ah.

  17. jnp says – reply to this

Re: Dan – Who said Roar was bombing? I was simply calling out Perez for trying to make Gaga look bad.

Re: shaygirl1309 – youre so right! Thousands are have hour's cut in my state, so companies are getting out of Obama care. Nobody can find a job that will give them over 26hr a week. Employers are afraid of getting close to 30 because they don't want to be fined. THANK YOU OBAMA VOTERS. NO REASON FOR US TO IN TRIPLE DEBT. STOP BLAMING BUSH.

  19. music industry says – reply to this

    That's not Music;
it's pop music! Not a ”real music” anyway..

Re: jnp – What relatively NEW musician or group in Katy's pop/rock genre do you like? If you don't like Katy or Gaga then why are you posting in here? Are you some sort of music critic who thinks he should be working for "Rolling Stone" or what?
As far as a musician's singing voice goes, that is in the ear of the beholder along with the rest of the song. It's all about what resonates with the listener.

Obviously millions of people love Katy's distinctive sounding voice. No, she's not at Mariah Carey's level and I doubt that is what she tries to do anyway. Neither do a lot of female pop/rock musicians over the last 30 years or so. Millions of people like myself like Kurt Cobain's singing voice (Nirvana) and he's screaming into the microphone half the time. Maybe you should critique the same TYPES of music you like.

  22. Casey says – reply to this

Re: someguy2621 – 100% agree! I love Katy's unique voice. She's really pop but her voice has a darkness or toughness.

  23. jnp says – reply to this

Re: someguy2621 – There's a difference between not liking the sound of someones voice and someone not being able to hold notes. Her voice may be pretty but the sad reality is she is not a very good singer live, she can't hold notes, she's off key and she's pitchy. That's just a sad reality.

What singers do I like? I enjoy the following amongst others

    Ellie Goulding
    Walk Off the Earth
    Serena Ryder
    Sara Bareilles
    Kelly Clarkson

Millions of people like Katy Perry because you were told by marketers to like her. Katy Perry is a slick product made by a record label who's sole purpose is to make money for the label. There's no artistry, no great musical talent per se, just a very slick marketed singer marketed to the tween \ teenage market to milk them of their allowances.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy some of her songs when I'm in the mood for some mindless pop music, the songs are catchy. But they are pretty generic in the sense that any female pop singer could sing these songs and you'd never know the difference. There's nothing wrong with it, just don't kid yourself that people like Katy Perry are great talents of our time

id say walking on air !

  26. @jnp says – reply to this

    You are spot on.

  27. Body Mind says – reply to this

Oh the sexual romantic in me just loves Dark Horse. Can't wait to hear more of that one! Oh baby!

  28. 28

Re: jnp – So all of Katy's millions of fans are being manipulated by marketers into liking her music? You gotta be kidding me. I know when I was a teenager, I thought the music I listened to was awesome and nobody manipulated my tastes in music one bit.

Since you think these super producers and super songwriters are writing 100% of Katy's songs … do you think they can plug in just any old girl off the street that can sing a little like someone from American Idol? If so, then why aren't they ALREADY doing it? Heck, they could write 10 songs for 10 different girls and every one of them would be a #1 hit wouldn't it?

Katy is a lead songwriter for her songs but she doesn't write every single word of every song and she doesn't play all the instruments in the creation of every song. Not many of the top musicians do. That's reality. Including Grammy winning Adele. Do you think less of Adele if she has to have a producer or songwriter help craft her songs? As far as I have seen on Wikipedia Adele does NOT write every one of her songs by herself. She always has people working with her. That's horrible isn't it?

  29. Katy Purry Fan says – reply to this

I can't wait to hear the best of both of them, but I'm kind of more into dark horse.
&& Lady gaga is irrelevant. Katy' still at #1 on itunes, so suck it bitches..LOL. She's putting out a second single for publicity, to get fans more interested in the rest of the album it's her way of teasing fans to want more. Not begging her fans to watch and buy the same crappy song more than once. I guess when you make good music, you don't have to be lame and act super desperate for attention. Katy-Prism>Gaga-Flopart

  30. rangga says – reply to this

I keep on voting Gaga's Applause. It's way better than those two songs combined.

Re: someguy2621 – The fat part of the curve generally do go out and buy what the promoters promote.

  32. 32

JJ: And, last question. Are you in the market for a blogger best friend? Because, I’m available.

LG: [laughs] That’s a really funny question. Well, I’m always on the market for a new friend, period. As your success continues to grow, you start to see who your real friends are. But I’m always looking for wonderful people to have in my life that have no agenda and aren’t fake friends. So, yes, of course. That’s very sweet and funny, and that was a nicely veiled question [laughs]. Well done, Jared! [laughs]

  33. Zoey47 says – reply to this

Ridiculous that politicians will enlist celebrities to campaign and promote their agendas. I have no respect for celebrities who voice who they will vote for not the ones who courage those to get out and vote. It is even more ridiculous that our society is persuaded to vote whichever way their favorite celebrity is going to vote.

  34. Zoey47 says – reply to this

Sickens me that celebrities use their platform for political purposes. Why not just promote society and its youth to vote, educate themselves ( watch debates or the news) and learn to think for themselves. Not who their idols are going to vote for. Politicians are even ridiculous when they enlist "a-list" celebrities to promote their agendas. This dress that Katy Perry is wearing is an example of abuse of publicity.

  35. Zoey47 says – reply to this

Accidentally posted two post that are a little redundant. Didn't think it went through

  36. @v@ says – reply to this

Wow. I remember when musicians schilled for truth. They wouldn't sell out their tunes for any corporate agenda, let alone political one. Now "artists" are walking billboards?
Is she paid to wear that dress? Brainwash the kids of the nation? I have nothing against Obama. Research and choose for yourself, and make sure your choices are educated and not instilled by marketing.

  37. 37

Both of those sound extraordianrily generic..no wonder KAty can't sell albums…

"So all of Katy's millions of fans are being manipulated by marketers into liking her music? You gotta be kidding me. I know when I was a teenager, I thought the music I listened to was awesome and nobody manipulated my tastes in music one bit. "

    That's proof marketing works

"do you think they can plug in just any old girl off the street that can sing a little like someone from American Idol? If so, then why aren't they ALREADY doing it? Heck, they could write 10 songs for 10 different girls and every one of them would be a #1 hit wouldn't it? "

Yes I do, and they do that, often. Why aren't there more? There is such a thing as a saturated market. Look it up.

Calling Katy Perry a lead writer is a joke. Don't kid yourself. In regards to Adele, we've discussed this before. If you look at the writing credits you will see that Adele co-writes with a writing partnet. Not an army of people. Her songs on 21 are also mostly produced by one person. Oh another thing as well. Adele is a phenomenal singer.

As I said before, I don't mind Katy Perry the songs are fun for the most part, but I don't listen to manufactured pop music with blinders on. I know where this music is coming and how it's produced. I don't kid myself into thinking that the "artist" is the driving force behind their songs, it's the label.

Props to Katy Perry though, she's laughing all the way to the bank.

  40. jnp says – reply to this

Re: Katy Purry Fan – If you are so confident in Katy Perry why do you feel the need to constantly compare her to another artist? Why do you have to hate Lady Gaga if you are a Katy Perry fan or vice vera? AS far as I know Lady Gaga and Katy Perry don't dislike each other. I'm pretty sure Katy Perry wouldn't approve of her fans diminishing other artists for a stupid popularity contest.

  43. dmoney says – reply to this

Neither. They're both terrible. Perez, why don't you hop off Kat's nuts. she can't sing to save her life. Have you heard her live? mmmhm.

  44. 44

During the Teenage Dream era people were saying that K is making only generic pop - well, compared to this new stuff that record now sounds deep and artistic… What the f**k has happened? This new KP thing is becoming crazier and crazier by the minute! Next she will probably turn into a statue made of plastic…
