Nooooo!!!

The sequel to Mortal Instruments: City of Bones was all set to begin shooting next week! We were even just talking to the cast about getting back to work on City of Ashes!

But production has now been shut down INDEFINITELY following MI's poor performance at the box office last month!

City of Ashes had already signed on Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower to return for the second installment, while Sigourney Weaver was also expected to join the cast!

After only a $58 million take at the box-office for City of Bones though, producers are now wondering if they have a hit on their hands or if they should bail out off this YA franchise altogether!

The executive producer of the flick, Martin Moszkowicz, is now saying that the decision to halt production was not an easy one, but that they are still very much committed to making the second movie. Martin explained:

"It was clear that it will be beneficial to have more time to reposition the film in the current market place. The Mortal Instruments’ series has an incredibly loyal and ardent fan base and is a bestselling book series. While taking Cassandra Clare’s vision to the screen, we want to make sure to draw on the full potential of the franchise.”

We SO hope they can figure out how to right what went wrong the first time around! This story is way too good to not have it make its way onto the big screen!

Come on, Shadowhunters! Let's make it happen!

The movie was a lousy compilation of scene-stealing ideas from Star Wars, Star Gate, and Twilight. Nothing original about the plot at all. It doesn't deserve a sequel.

I had many problems with this movie. It started out pretty good, but descended into a mish-mash of unintelligble character motivation, a weird unsatisfying ending for the two romantic leads, a horrific 80's-esque love-song sequence while the two leads make out (see picture above) and storylines that made no sense. I didn't read the books, so I didn't know what to expect, but I went into it with low expectations and those expectations weren't even met. This second movie needed to be shut down.

People are surprised? Looked like a pile of garbage with horrible special effects and even worse acting. The trailers said it all and that's why it bombed. Very little appeal to this series/movie.

I've heard the books are decent. Bad adaptation, imho. It was a trainwreck on the big screen.

I have read the series multiple times and the movie was horrible IF you read the series. A LOT of mistakes! COA is still going to be made they just not soon. Probably not until they find a better writer.

Sorry Perez - considering the author built her career on plagiarizing other writers, I'd say this movie bombing is some long-overdue karma. Good riddance.

They can't fix their mistake. It was casting. Though a better script would make the movie infinitely better.

I really liked it, Jamie Campbell Bower was great. I agree it started very strong and unraveled a bit buy the end. Lily Collins is not a good actress but I guess when your dad is Phil Collins.

it would have been a wayyyyy better movie, if it was more in tune with the book(not so many changes)

    I'm devastated. I loved the books and loved that they made it into a movie. I'm so sad about this! C R U S H E D

I've read the book, and I actually quite like the film. I understand the fact that they had to make the story shorter, but there were too much changes to the point that you couldn't feel the dynamic between the characters. It's hard to understand the romantic attraction between the leads (I personally think it was too instant). There were so many things left unexplained.
I think they took a dangerous turn when they decided to end the story differently. It was only the first movie, and yet they changed so much things.
I am actually hoping that they will continue the movie. I don't like a story being left unfinished. And I hope they will stick to the book next time.

It's Jamie Campbell Bower…he's kinda gross. The people that I loved in the movie were Valentine, Clary's mom, Simon (<3 Robert Sheehan!!!) and Magnus Bane. But like they dubbed Magnus' voice and I couldn't figure out why? His real voice is sexy…he's one sexy Asian man. Jamie, yeah, the guy who SUPPOSED to play this hot, charming dangerous sexpot, is way TOO SKINNY, LACKS CHARM, and the MASCULINITY that we got from characters like Edward and Jacob. They need to change him! He's a great actor BUT this role is NOT FOR HIM.

Re: fid – I completely agree. my friends dragged me at the midnight premeire to see the imax, SOOOOO not worth the money. And they were in PRE-PRODUCTION BEFORE the first one bombed. The first is complete BS

Re: Trish – I think they left out the part where simon's a rat, did they? I saw it but i don't remember. Sorry, I meant to + your comment. Sorry for the mistake

I love the books. Had problems with the movie. Glad they are rewriting the script for City of Ashes. Just so you know, the current world box office sits at $79 Million and change! That's after a month. I know that everyone wants a billion dollar first week, but damn. As a fan, I just want to say to all the haters out there- "suck it!" Peace

One thing people tend to get confused about is that the films based on books are adaptions NOT replicas…!
I think the book is amazing but I also the the movie is too!
They have their differences but that is the whole point… the director is there to give his/her own creative input… not always go by the book!
I hope people will understand this and I really hope their will be a movie for City Of Ashes as well as the other books in The Mortal Instruments series.
