More details are emerging surrounding the deadly shootings that took place this morning in our nation's capital, and none of them make the situation any less tragic!
Authorities upped the death total to 13 and identified a man they think was responsible, but they still haven't said definitively whether they believe more suspects are currently at large.
Police say they've identified the suspected gunman who was killed today during the Washington Navy Yard firefight as Aaron Alexis, a 34-year-old Navy veteran discharged from service after a shooting incident but apparently later hired by a government subcontractor.
According to Navy sources, Aaron was also once awarded both the National Defense Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. Other sources say he was also enrolled in college courses this semester.
As for whether District police are still chasing other suspects, it's still very unclear!
Earlier today D.C. Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier said they were searching for two additional suspects dressed in fatigues, but they've reportedly found and cleared one of those potential suspects since then and haven't said whether they're still searching for another.
President Barack Obama offered his sentiments earlier and is currently asking all government agencies to fly flags at half-mast in the wake of these senseless shootings.
Our thoughts and sincerest well-wishes continue to go out to all those affected by these horrific slayings.
We will of course keep you updated as soon as any new information is uncovered.
