Thursday afternoon, Capitol police held a press conference to address the incident at Capitol Hill.
After giving their conference, we now know the following:
This afternoon there was a suspicious vehicle that attempted to pass a barricade at the White House to drive onto the lawn. Realizing something was wrong, the vehicle was then attempted to be stopped by the Secret Service. Shots were fired, and as SS continued to pursue the vehicle, the suspect then struck one of the police cars before crashing into the barricade.
As an act of caution, law enforcement put surrounding buildings on lockdown — those of which have now been released.
As far as the suspect, they can confirm that the suspect was female but can not attest to her current condition. They also believe there was a child present, and they believe the child is fine.
Capitol police then confirmed the police officer that was believed to have been shot in the situation was actually struck by the car. Fortunately, he appears to be conscious and breathing.
What caused this? So far, there is nothing to link this to terrorism. This is an isolated incident, they believe, but they are still collecting more facts before they release further information.
