Madonna Shares Private Tragedy About Being Raped At Knifepoint When She First Moved To NYC!

| Filed under: MadonnaSad SadNew York

madonna raped in nyc early years

So, so, so horrible!

We can't even imagine the pain Madonna went through after she first moved to New York City, but now that it's in the past, she's opening up about being raped during her early days in the Big Apple.

In an article in Harper's Bazaar, Madonna recalls the difficult memory as she writes:

"New York wasn't everything I thought it would be. It did not welcome me with open arms. The first year, I was held up at gunpoint. Raped on the roof of a building I was dragged up to with a knife in my back."

It must take such strength to openly talk about this especially when your fans see you as the ultimate queen.

We love that Madonna is revealing her past tragedy that clearly hasn't stopped her from being an amazingly strong woman who has taken on the world.

We hope her stories help anyone else trying to find their strength.

This isn't new information, she first mentioned it in an interview in the early 90's and has made mention of it in several other interview since then.

For someone who likes to present herself as such as strong woman, she really seems to worry about her looks alot. No way you can miss the difference in the face. & the gloves , I guess that's to hide the the fact that "The hands always give you away." Her face so who really cares , but it's starting to look a bit funky. Plus of course, strenght & insecurity, don't really go together.

Thank you for being brave and sharing this with us Madonna. I love seeing how nothing, and I mean nothing will ever stop you being the amazing artist and human rights person that you are. I have been your fan since I was 13 and 27 years later, I will be yours for life. Love you.

  7. 7

I thought she talked about this years ago. That was not news to me. She was strong enough to stand up and keep going after being raped. I'm not a fan of Madonna, but she is a strong woman to be admired.

  8. 8

    You are the ultimate QUEEN.

  9. 9

That's what happens when you slut yourself around. I don't believe anyone ever ASKS to be raped, but I do believe many girls put themselves in position where they CAN be raped. It's a sad fact of life. No amount of awareness is ever going to totally 100% stop rape, but we as women should learn to be smart and not put ourselves in danger by looking or acting like a whore to begin with. ykwim?

When it comes to rape issues I'm of the belief that there are truly innocent kids who get raped, and then there are women who totally put themselves in the situation to get raped. Rape is always going to be part of our existence. As id stealing, murders, infidelity, etc. Just be smart about it, bitch.

  10. 10

This is old news. Is she feeling neglected? The event clearly didn't have a huge impact on her; she's acted like a randy whore since she came on the scene. I'm not feeling very sorry for her.
Re: pollopicu – I agree with you. There is no excuse for rape, but there ARE those women (like Madonna) who send out a "fuck me" vibe and if they're not in the mood to make good on their subliminal invitations, they cry rape. Please note that her "rape" didn't stop her from putting her sexuality front and center, like with her disgusting SEX book.

Re: pollopicu – And FYI, you fucking idiot, it doesn't fucking matter what a person wears, how they act, or anything else. If someone lays their hands on you and RAPES you, it is 100% THEIR fault, not yours. Even if you dressed in extremely revealing clothing, it is never something YOU caused. It is their fault for thinking that it was somehow OKAY to take something from you. You're a fucking idiot.

  13. 13

I'm sorry but I don't find that is shows all that much strength to talk about it, what 40+ years later? yes it is horrible, I was date raped just after I graduated college, but just talking about it now so many years down the road is really not all that brave.

Re: The Truthinator – Nobody invites anyone else to rape them. Either you consent to sex or you don't. If you don't, and it still happens, it's rape. End of story. If you do, it's consensual sex.

I was raped when i was young, so i know what it's like.

Re: pollopicu – Shame on you for saying that a woman deserves to be raped. I hope it never happens to you or somebody close to you, because you have no idea what it's like to be assaulted at gun point. Like I always say: "It is always somebody else's tragedy until it happens to you, or someone you know - sooner or later you get hurt somewhere - somehow".

She's already talked about this DECADES AGO. This is the first time she brings it up again after so long, but she's never used that horrible experience to get simpathy. It's well known to fans though, and anyone who knows how to read Wikipedia.

It's embarrassing the amount of people who are commenting on this, blaming her for being raped or saying she is doing it for attention. There is no way anyone can blame the victim for the rape, no matter what she was wearing, where she was. It's is always the rapist's fault. It can take years for a rape victim to even admit to being raped - if they ever do. But it can take decades to be able to freely talk about it.

  29. Bette says – reply to this

Someone's clothing choices are irrelevant. I was wearing a pair of jeans, yellow shirt and white jacket when I was raped.

  30. 30

God, this old grandma is trying everything to be relevant. She looks terrible

  31. 31

Ew. The guy must have been desperate if he stuck it in her.. Poor guy.

  32. 32

Re: Gabby – Yes, sometimes it is the victims when they put themselves in situations when they get raped.

  33. 33

Wow. I cannot imagine how painful it was to share, but thank you for sharing nonetheless.

  34. Jess says – reply to this

Re: pollopicu – You're a fucking dumbass. It's because of people like YOU who assume and say ignorant things that result in women to hide their abuse and keep it to themselves. You've been raped my ass. No woman who has ever been in that situation would say that they/any other woman who've experienced such a horrific act to have "put themselves in that situation". No matter who the woman is, what they wore, or how they acted - nobody deserves that and they are the victim.

  35. 35

Re: Jess – Who the fuck are you to say if I've been raped or not? that shows how much you know about rape at all. All you fucking assholes think that every girl who gets her ass raped is so sweet and innocent, but a lot of the times they are not. True, there are many women who get brutally raped, but there are many women who ask for the attention by being little cock teasers and then wonder why they got raped. I can't believe how fucking stupid our society has become to now glorify slut pole dancing sluts.

  36. 36

    Re: pollopicu
That's not the point they are trying to make. Its the fact that people with an opinion like you have tend to share it out loud in the past(and still do) the result was that alot of women have and will never share their pain and seek help and carry this burden with them. Nobody should ever grant him/herself the position of deciding that you were asking for it, you simply do not have the right. Just like abusers saying 'that you were asking for it' 'you are just making me so mad'.These days are now more and more opening up and woman and men are shaking of the shame they felt people put on them.
And the thing is if a female decided to wear certain clothes, why cant she then expect from guys to behave? Why should SHE change her freedom or the way she wants to dress in the name of stupid men? So there is a problem with girls in sexy clothing and men sometimes, but really isnt that the most stupid thing ever when you think about it? She is just wearing those clothes, where I come from in South America females go outside with a cloth around their waist and bra and its perfectly fine. Not that the guys dont think its sexy, its just not something people would say to ' well she asked for it 'Lately I have been really wondering why we are asking all of this from women and not learning or sons to behave etc? Sorry for my grammar im Dutch.

Re: pollopicu – I feel sorry for you that your horrible experience has skewed your view on rape. The act itself is not sexual in nature. Rape is about power, anger and violence. It is no more about sex than assault with a weapon is about the weapon.

  41. Alphonso says – reply to this

…And here are some rape statistics from Brazil alone…

“Dossiê Mulher” (Women’s Dossier), a report compiled by the Institute of Public Security (ISP) in Rio de Janeiro, says sexual assault accounts for the largest proportion of all forms of violence against women in this southeastern Brazilian state.
Last year, 6,029 rapes were committed in the state, and 4,993 of the victims were women. This represented a 24 percent increase in the number of women raped compared to 2011.
On average, 416 women a month were raped in 2012. The ISP said the rate of rape in the state is 37 per 100,000 population for victims of both sexes.

…Maybe women in South America are not as safe as you state…

    Madonna is hideous.

  47. 47

Re: pollopicu – Here we go… just scratch a little and it begins to show the kind of person you really are. In case you forgot what you said - I quote "That's what happens when you slut yourself around" How do you know Madonna "slut" herself around and got raped as a result?

You also said "I do believe many girls put themselves in position where they CAN be raped" Really? Why is that? Do the girls in India who get raped put themselves in a position to be raped because they look beautiful, or sexy or young or wear something provocative? Rape is rape - rape is never cronsensual, it is the action and result of some sick asshole who did not have the mentality to control his sick desires.

People should really read twice what they say before posting negativity. Remember, if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all. I am not saying don't express yourself, JUST STOP POSTING HURTFUL COMMENTS. It is people like you who make this world so awful. LOVE! Spread LOVE!

If madonna showed us the REAL her under the cosmetics (the likely gray haired version without makeup)… we'd all be traumatized. Like completely eye raped. But she'd probably be traumatized by the real her too. We'd all be traumatized together. Well, "not WEEEE". I'd poke my eyes out before looking at the real her. Nobody rapes my eyes but me.

It likely was not rape, but 'rough sex' and she is just playing the incident for attention…I mean, somebody who had actually been raped would not have been so sexually suggestive, and outright WHORISH, with regard to their image and career….so , it could not have been that traumatic…if anything, she likely wanted it, but changed her mind when she saw the guy had a small dick, and, welll, it became a bit rough. Sorry, but she has seen more ceilings than Michaelangelo ! She ain't no innocnet little girl…likely never was………….

Re: jowie – Yes, I share it loud, because I have a voice, and I have the freedom to do so. People like you don't want me to share my views because people like you want to be in the majority of thinking that way. Well, not everyone thinks as you do, and that's ok. And this is exactly the reason why issues like this never get solved because of stupid idealist like you. Instead of taking precaution, you insist behaving and dressing like a hobag, don't wonder why bad things happen to you. So you're going to wipe out all other crimes too because of your idealism. You're immature, unrealistic, and so so naive.
There are always going to be rapists. Always. that's sad for sure, but some of us women can be fucking smart about it, and we can begin by not acting like coy little sluts.

  55. 55

Re: Alphonso – Yes, exactly! and look at all the slut bags in brazil. Brazilain women are the most hedonistic in all of the world. it's no wonder they get raped.

Re: pollopicu – I'm not about bashing people when they make opinions and i never write on these but I seriously needed to. no girl puts herself in a situation to get raped! girls have walked to a grocery store fully clothed and have been raped. It's the rapers problem NOT the girl!! WE SHOULDN'T HAVE TO CHANGE WHAT WE WEAR BECAUSE THERE ARE SICK PEOPLE OUT THERE. Such an ignorant comment you made.

  59. Johnny says – reply to this

Re: pollopicu – So you're saying you were raped and yet you call some women slut bags and "no wonder they were raped" and presumed that Madonna slutted herself around. For a rape victim, you seem to be seeing things more from the perspective of the rapist who justify their acts by saying their victims were asking for it. If you were in fact raped then that means you believed you were asking for it as well. Otherwise, you wouldn't have these kinds of sentiments where you blame the victim.

  60. FayeLivia says – reply to this

Re: pollopicu – You do make a point in an insensible way;p.I agree that there are women who over-sexualize their looks and cries foul when some sexual harrassment happens. After all,a man's thinking has been like that since cave time and their tool is like a compass,it follows where it points ;p.I also get that you just want women to take extra pre-caution by pointing out that a woman has more or higher tendency to get rape when in a scantily clad clothes.

Maybe it's just the way you used words which makes it insensible for others but the lesson you are trying to send was ignored bec not everyone can and will see through you by just “reading the lines”.

I'm a Psychology student so I see your message in a diff angle.

  61. @v@ says – reply to this

That would have blown the mental gasket of someone known for her strong girl front for awhile.

  62. 62

I was raped when i was 8 years old. I was a child.

Sometimes it is the woman's fault. Explain this to me, some women dress like sluts, pure slut whore bags, and they do so to attract male attention, to get men turned on, to get them hard, why? because they women are so insecure they need to feel validated as a woman, they don't know how else to do it, or are too lazy to try other more intelligent methods. So if you're a slut, and you get your ass drunk at a party, with a bunch of scumbags, don't wonder why you got raped. Not saying they deserved to GET raped, just saying don't wonder why?
You people who are attacking me are refusing to see the beast that is man. Some men are animals, and there will never be a cure for that. So why put yourself in the4 situation where you're going to get yourself attacked? Would you cover yourself in blood and sit in the wilderness and hope that nothing attacks tyou because it's morally wrong? Men are no different than animals. they continue to prove that time and time again, especially since so many of them are addicted to porn, and simply cannot and will not control that urge although it causes major sociological problems for todays modern family.

Kepp being a slut. get raped? don't cry on my shoulder. That's why I believe Hannah Anderson had that coming. She's another slut.

Or maybe you shouldnt have talked to that stranger or looked so cute as a young girl and it wouldnt have happened to you?
