Carrie Underwood Sounds Off On The "Challenge" Of Her Sound Of Music Gig!

| Filed under: TV NewsCarrie Underwood

carrie underwood sound of music challenge

Carrie Underwood will do just about anything to make her stint as Maria in NBC's The Sound of Music production flawless, even if it means punching in some extra hours at rehearsal!

In fact, the songstress is SO dedicated to the 3 hour LIVE spectacle that she decided to show up to NYC a whole three weeks early to prep.

The country bombshell explained:

"This is a live show on TV. So this is definitely a challenge for all of us.I wanted to be here and have all my lines memorized and everything and be ready for it. It's been really wonderful,. Audra [McDonald] and Laura [Benanti] are incredible. Stephen [Moyer]'s great. It's nice to be surrounded by that much talent."

Dayuuummm! Talk about dedication!

Then again, Carrie knows a thing or two about what it takes to make audiences jaws drop on live TV since hypnotizing the masses on American Idol.

Clearly if Carrie has anything to say about it, this will be an unforgettable small screen moment!!!

And who can resist such a classic??!

Will U tune in December 5 for NBC's The Sound of Music??

I hate this re-make classics crap. carrie underwood is fine but dame julie andrews she is not. just wish they would leave the classics alone. Hollywood can't do anything original and all they seem to be good at are cartoons, so DON'T mess up the classics because you can't do anything original.

Re: shaygirl1309 – This "live" production is based on the Broadway Play originally staring Mary Martin. This is NOT a remake of the movie where Julie Andrews played the lead of Maria.

While everyone is entitled to their opinion Carrie is doing the remake of the musical NOT the movie…two completely different versions…..

Re: KathleenRe: Debbieb82 – Doesn't matter. I think Carrie is a great singer but the notes she's going to have to hit are difficult and are usually taken on by actresses who are classically trained. And the incomparable Julie Andrews is a hard act to follow. Mary Martin was also a great singer (she plays a nun in that movie) but many more people have seen the movie and that's what she'll be judged by. Lets face it she's damned either way.

If I'm gonna spend hours watching "the Sound of Music" its gonna be the one with Julie Andrews.

Why have you traveled down here? Possibly because, like me, you are seeking something to voice disgust over all the vacant marshmallows in articles like this. Isn't there anything in American culture beside tired fake liberals and no talent game show hosts?

    You're welcome.

Well, 2 or 3 negative comments does not compare with 753 people who vote and the 90% will be watching the show so… haters are loosers! lol

I am so looking forward to this redo of the Sound of Music. Julie Andrews was wonderful in the lead but its been many years since she was heard on Broadway doing the roll of Mary Von Trapp. Several generations have come and gone and its time for a new take on this classic musical. Choosing Carrie Underwood for the lead was shear genius. Not only does she bring her superlative voice with her but a persona that fits perfectly the roll of Maria. Anyone who knows where Carrie comes from and her beliefs knows this was a match made in heaven. This will be the musical standard for many years to come.
