Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes Is Back In Production After Almost Being Canceled!

Phew!!! That was a close one!

Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower will be back on the big screen soon in Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes, the sequel to City of Bones!

But the two Shadowhunters should be counting their blessings because this second installment almost didn't happen!

The film's production company shut the movie down after the first flick MAJORLY underperformed at the box office when it was released in August!

The YA action-packed love story, an adaptation of Cassandra Clare’s best-selling book series, only managed to rake in $31 million at the American box office!

And that's no good, considering the film reportedly had a budget of more than $60 MILL!

Nevertheless, film executive Martin Moszkowicz says they are still committed to making the sequel, and it all might be because of the response they received from fans! Martin explained:

"The fan response, from the blogosphere and the thousands of mails we have received, has encouraged us to keep going. It's been overwhelmingly positive, in contrast to some other YA titles.”

The plan for this next installment will be to revamp their marketing strategy and to include promotions geared at getting fans 20-30 excited for the flick, in addition to their teenage base.

Execs will also be studying the first film to see if the script, casting or style need to be reworked as well!

Hopefully a change will do this flick some good and sell more tickets!

So glad! These are excellent books! The movie was very well made and I was very worried it wouldn't do well because I don't believe it was marketed well. Some people are disappointed with the casting or whatever but that's ok. I like the actors but they are older then I visioned. Still a GREAT movie, and great book series.

Terrific book series, one of the WORST book to movie transitions ever. They completely destroyed the book and just went off half cocked into the wild blue yonder of their imaginations. I was beyond disappointed with it and guaranteed I will not be seeing them destroy another book I enjoy.

Very excited and looking forward to M I:City of Ashes ! We didn't see much promotion for the City of Bones in Asia. The movie was great and loved the cast but they have to do more marketing and promotion to raise awareness for the next movie.

Cassandra Clare should participate more on the film just like Rowling for Harry Potter and Mayer for Twilight.. City of Ashes will be so much better. Please, change the screenwriter..
Good luck for the shadowhunters and Jamily
