Phew!!! That was a close one!
Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower will be back on the big screen soon in Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes, the sequel to City of Bones!
But the two Shadowhunters should be counting their blessings because this second installment almost didn't happen!
The film's production company shut the movie down after the first flick MAJORLY underperformed at the box office when it was released in August!
The YA action-packed love story, an adaptation of Cassandra Clare’s best-selling book series, only managed to rake in $31 million at the American box office!
And that's no good, considering the film reportedly had a budget of more than $60 MILL!
Nevertheless, film executive Martin Moszkowicz says they are still committed to making the sequel, and it all might be because of the response they received from fans! Martin explained:
"The fan response, from the blogosphere and the thousands of mails we have received, has encouraged us to keep going. It's been overwhelmingly positive, in contrast to some other YA titles.”
The plan for this next installment will be to revamp their marketing strategy and to include promotions geared at getting fans 20-30 excited for the flick, in addition to their teenage base.
Execs will also be studying the first film to see if the script, casting or style need to be reworked as well!
Hopefully a change will do this flick some good and sell more tickets!
