I've been accused of being PC, etc., but this is ridiculous. Too much self tanner is NOT "black face."

  2. 2

Get over it people.. she sincerely apologized and her reason for the costume was in no way to be put forth in a negative way.

  3. 3

Wish people would shut up about this. She was playing a TV character for Halloween. This was harmless and the reactions are silly.

I think that this is so silly. I don't think this is racist. she was being a character from a tv show and that person was black….. people dress up as indians and what not and get tan for that and alter their look but no one makes a big deal out of that. I find the whole thing to be silly and making this girl feel bad about it is aweful.

I guess they should also ban people from wearing geisha makeup, native american costumes, fat suits or Obama masks. If we are going to be over-sensitive we should at least be consistent.

How about the movie White Chicks when the Wayans brothers played white girls in the movie. I didn't hear any complaints about that.

    You can't fix stupid!

    You can't fix stupid!

  9. 9

it's not racist…omg….really get over it. some people are always looking for a reason to condemn. it's really sad.

  10. 10

And Robert Downey Jr can get the whole look for a character that is a white guy playing a black guy and it's funny? But here, she's being scolded for it? Lame.

  11. hilary says – reply to this

Here's my thing she can go as whoever she wants just don't paint your face! We'll still get it. I could go as lady gaga without lighting my skin. No one is saying white people can not dress up as a black celeb, just do it tastefully, and realize that face painting and making yourself darker is a sensitive area for a multitude of reasons. If you want to know why just do some research on minstrel shows, people wearing racist costumes mocking cultures, and then people opinions on racial tension today. That's all it is. Dress as who ever you want just be smart and don't paint your face. Happy Halloween.

  12. 12

Its bronzer, not black face. This is ridiculous.

  13. Vic says – reply to this

Are we seriously not going to mention what Tyra did lately??? I didn't hear white people all up in arms about it.

  14. 14

Re: hilary – omg shut up. People are way too sensitive these days. I am sure if she was black and wanted to dress up as lady gaga and made her skin lighter and dyed her hair blonde no one would complain. Why would you complain anyway? I guess people are always looking for reasons to bitch and complain. #getoveryourself.

This is stupid…really…is this all people have to bitch about? One year we went to a halloween party with a theme of "Murderers and their victims"…we went as OJ and Nicole Simpson…We did it to the 9s with brown face paint on his face, neck and arms…Everyone thought it was awesome! It's halloween people. Get over it! I only wish she wouldn't have apologized, cuz she didn't do anything wrong…

  16. LilAngel says – reply to this

sorry but I don't see where the problem is with her costume

  17. gina says – reply to this

still looking for the "blackface" people need to grow the fuck up, racism is real because of over sensitive people with nothing better to do…

  18. Juni says – reply to this

    Re: BLueeyedshorty
NOT TRUE and you're ignorance shows by pretending any ethnic group is okay with being racially portrayed as a costume. It's not "silly", learn to read articles outside of perezhilton before you spout nonsense.

  19. Ofra says – reply to this

Why is this offensive.. what about White Chicks??? Why is that not offensive????

  20. kelly says – reply to this

If I saw her walking down the street I'd just think that she used the wrong tanning spray & or used too much bronzer, this is rediculous.

  21. OITNB Fan says – reply to this

Until I read the story, I had no idea who she was or what she was trying to be, I thought she was trying to make fun of Miley Cirus to tell you the truth because of the hair lol

  22. Alien says – reply to this

It's a compliment to the show. Why cant she dress up as her favorite character? Crazy Eye rocks and I think it was an awesome costume. Can a black woman dress as a white character for Halloween? Of course she can, so it should work both ways. People are getting all bent out of shape for nothing.. IT WAS A COMPLIMENT!!!!

  23. Alien says – reply to this

    Gees. Lighten up.

  24. BLueeyedshorty says – reply to this

Re: Juni – sorry that my opinion ( and as it seems many others as well) is nonsense. My husband is black and he doesn't find this offensive. He is on the same page as me.

  25. 25

hahahahaha this cracks me up. poor girl is a fan of the show and this particular character….and she was prob really excited to dress up to show her appreciation for the show….and now so many people are offended bc of the skin color application LOL like COME ON people….the character is African american….she was getting into character! its not like she dressed up as some random inmate and changed her skin color to brown lol

  26. Whitney says – reply to this

Seriously its okay for Black men To play White women in movies(white chicks) she was not trying to offend she is dressing up like a character …..if i was going to be smurf i would paint myself blue! the end

  27. Marie says – reply to this

It's a freaking Halloween costume, from a TV character, portrayed by a black woman for god's sake. If they had omitted her, wouldn't people say that her and her friends were racist because they didn't think of including the black woman? So if one were was to dress up as a Drag Queen, would that be hurtful for that community? Seriously this is beyond stupid. It is obvious that she is not a racist. I wish she would have stand her ground and not apologize.

  28. Nick says – reply to this

The majority of the people see nothing wrong with this. It's just the media blowing everything into a drama fest (as usual)

  29. bombshell says – reply to this

Absolutely NOTHING wrong with what she did! She doesn't look any darker than when I spray tanned and used bronzer for when I dressed up as Snooki years ago. People are too GD sensitive these days.

  30. rachy says – reply to this

I can't believe everyone is making such a big deal about this. She is clearly playing a character on TV and said she respects the actress so much that she wanted to emulate her. She also sincerely apologized so accept it & move on!!!

  31. mcr says – reply to this

Re: Ofra – you're so dumb

  32. 32

Re: Bigdawg – Thanks but I do not think she should have to apologize at all, she was honoring and paying tribute to someone she admired a lot.

  33. 33

Oh please!! This is once again… an non-story! So when Whoopi Goldberg wore "white face' in The Associate, was that racist? When the Wayan's brothers made "White Chicks" and wore "white face" was that racist?

NEWSFLASH BLACK PEOPLE…you are NOT the only race on the planet! Get over yourselves!

  34. 34

    Re: Bigdawg
    She shouldn't have apologized. Period.

  35. 35

    Re: hilary
Oh please!! What a load of CRAP!

  36. 36

    Re: Juni
Get over yourself! And, people are SO tired of the Black community calling everyone "Ignorant," When the Black community faces up to its VIOLENT RACISM against Whites, Asians and Latinos, then we can talk.

  37. 37

In related news, Derek reports Julianne is EVEN MORE MORTIFIED because she has been ordered to watch "Burlesque" and "Footloose" in an endless loop until she understands that BLACK FACE has been taboo in Hollywood for decades! #idiot

  38. shelby says – reply to this

I fail to see what's so wrong with this. She was dressing as a character, big deal. What a joke - black people, get a life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  39. Sam says – reply to this

…. It's a Halloween costume…. It wasn't as though she out on any other random day looking like that. Seriously get over yourself and Hilary you're an idiot. You can dress up any way you want to because that's what Halloween is all about. Go live in your little bubble and just stop talking.

  40. Amber says – reply to this

So Robert Downey Jr. does it with the actual intent of being offensive and everyone is fine and thinks it's funny. Julianne Hough does it with no ill intentions but just to dress up as her favorite character on a tv show and it's this huge deal. Seriously, people?

  41. Cangal says – reply to this

Seriously? What about the Indian, Japanese, Egyptian etc. costumes then? WHO CARES! It's halloween. Eat some candy and quit crying.
