portia de rossi opens up not wanting to be lesbian

We just seem to love her more and more all of the time!

Portia de Rossi sat down for an interview on The Conversation with Amanda de Cadenet, and she talked about the tough time when she was struggling with being gay. She said:

“I just didn’t want to be a lesbian. I’d never met one for a start and I just thought they were strange and that they hated men and they were very serious and I had these ridiculous images in my head and there were no out celebrities or politicians or anybody that I could look to and go, ‘Oh, I could be like that.’ There was nobody that I could say, ‘I could date her and I want to be like her.’ I just kind of thought I don’t want to live like this. I don’t have to, I don’t need to, I just shut down the emotional life… I didn’t like people thinking of me as a sexual being, and I was just terrified that people would know that I was gay.”

It is SO sad she felt that way! And it got worse when she dwindled away to 82lbs because of an eating disorder!

But in 2004 that all changed as soon as Portia met the woman of her dreams: Ellen DeGeneres! Portia explained what changed to make her the happy, bubbly actress she is today:

“For me being honest about who I was, coming out, being gay, starting to date, that was a huge turning point for me, because I realized without changing my life, there was no point in changing the way that I ate.”

Yes! The truth will set you free!

It’s great to hear how AH-Mayzing Portia is after coming through that hard time!

Re: 70s RUMP RANGER HOMo – Wow what a mean thing to say. It is bad karma to wish harm on anyone, don't you know that?

Re: 70s RUMP RANGER HOMo – You want two women who do so much good for the world, help so many charities, so many people, and spread around love and acceptance to have cancer? What a sad world you live in.

Re: nicole – so Ellen gives TV sets and a few thousands dollars to some waitress from time to time, plus some other mediocre crap, and we are to think she is a goddess? I don't think so. All she does it for is to boost ratings for her show.
Nevertheless, I don't think wishing someone to die of cancer is called for simply because they are so called celebrities.
This said, I like Ellen's show. She has very easy going personality and is quite witty without being rude. That's something to admire.
Now, as to the "poor me, sitting in the closet, dying of starvation"… boohoo! we all have problems and we don't whinge about them for the whole bloody world to see!
    Re: shaygirl1309 – (post #1) you've got it in one, "shaygirl1309"! :D

Re: 70s RUMP RANGER HOMo – I don't think the focus is on portia crying and whining about her eating disorder. I think it's more on the fact that when someone shares about a struggle they went through in their own lives, it helps to reach out to other people who may also be feeling the same way or struggling with the same thing, and hearing from a celebrity how they were able to overcome it may also help someone who reads this to think that if Portia was able to overcome what she did, maybe they can too! I think you should think about what you say before you just make comments like that.
