Demi Lovato Implies Controversial Stars Like Miley Cyrus Are Role Models Even If They Refuse!

miley cyrus demi lovato role model whether she wants to or not

She might just be being Miley Cyrus, but everyone is watching!

And that includes her young fans who are most likely picking up on her twerking and tonguing antics.

Demi Lovato knows a thing or two about being watched by the public especially during her downward spiral that led to a stint in rehab.

And now she's speaking out to Entertainment Weekly about how she justified her wild child antics by telling herself she didn't have to be anyone's role model, much like many half-nekkid pic lovin' little ladies and lads do these days.

She explained:

"I used to say that too. That was my excuse to do whatever the f–k I wanted and not give a sh-t about what other people thought. Then I ended up going through some stuff. I realized I'm never going to escape the fact that I'm in the public eye, so I might as well do the best I can."

We're not sure if she was throwing shade at Mileybird or other raunchy pot supporting celebs like Rihanna, but it feels a lil' bit shady here!

But then again, since Demi is trying to be a great role model, she's probably just being honest.

And that's why we love her!

This whole role model thing has sexist connotations. Nobody was talking about Robin Thicke (who is married) being a bad role model for boys after he grinded on Miley at the VMAs. Nobody ever talks about Justin Bieber being a bad role model for his fans. I don't think any of these women ever asked to be role models so why should it matter?

Demi never dropped any names Perez. She was just talking about how she personally feels about being a role model. You are such an instigator!

Re: izzy – I think male stars are seen as role models too. Otherwise there wouldn't be so many young men walking around with their ass hanging out and talking like illiterates just to be cool. These guys, like Robin Thicke, are so misogynistic to women in their music and it is definitely rubbing off on boys.

You can't force strangers to raise your child. If that celebrity isn't giving out bad advice, then they should not be held responsible for your kid being a dumbass, with no leadership skills. No one is perfect– it seems think once someone's in the public eye that means they have to be this perfect t robot, who makes no mistakes. And God forbid that celebrity does because they'll be persecuted for it. Ex. Smoking, wearing a tight dress, drinking, which some of us have done.

I really cant wait to read it. She inspires girls and guys like me, what the harm in that? If you guys don't want to read it then don't. Common sense.

Well I am old but we had slightly different role models in my day. Growing up it was Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, and my favorite, Annie Oakley. Later we had the Beatles and some of the great hard rock bands. I still remember going to a benefit concert in San Francisco with some of the best like Jefferson Airplane, the Doors, and so many others I cannot nnotttremember.

Re: izzy – Because in most cases boys don't choose singers as "role models" they choose sports players! That is why you think there is a double standard. Guys in music I know "modeled" themselves after heavy metal rockers or rock-n-rollers, NOT strupid boy popstars. Girls have a tendancy to look to musicians and actresses for "role models". And when you put yourslef into the public eye you do not get to choose if you are or are not a role model - like Rihanna seems to think and Miley apparently. Kids identify with people they think are cool - the person has NO control over who idolizes them and they cannot disclaim responsibility.
