LOVE CELIA…but this was horrible…UN Latin America will think its cool just cuz she shook her old cooche…this was nothing more than a way for her to show her new surgeries..CELIA NEEEEEEEEEVER stripped down as such for attention..on top of the prerecorded :"live" track…the umm vocals still were off…LA INDIA OR GLORIA ESTEFAN would have been better

What a disgrace…. as a Latinoamerican I don't find the Honor on this performance… what about a Cuban artist performs the Tribute…. Not a mediocre singer…

I enjoyed the dancing… Her voice is terrible. I think La India would've done a phenomenal job.

She wasn't trying to "be" Celia! She was paying a tribute to her music and work in her own way as an artist and performer herself! Everyone is saying that Celia would be proud and i think so too! With this, many young kids will get to know Celia's music and what a legend she was! Be grateful someone as talented as Jen was picked to honour Celia and latin music!!!

ps Justin was ECSTATIC after this performance! lol

Re: Laura – I know…it was absolutely disgraceful having such a beautiful woman do the tribute to Celia Cruz! Celia Cruz was butt ass ugly and they should have found an equally ugly Cuban singer to do this tribute, not a gorgeous Puerto Rican actress/singer. Maybe a dude in drag would have been better?

If you didn't live in Miami, and you weren't a 60+ year old, how would you be expected to know who Celia Cruz was ?
All I remember is Gloria Estefan saying that they went to school together back in Cuba

I LOVE Celia Cruz! and this performance was amazing, im not talking about jLos voice, im talking about the salsa dancing and the trumpets, im puerto rican and i remember celia cruz before she died. She was an amazing singer, and performer. I love how JLO embraced the latin culture, i felt soooo proud to be a puerto rican. im happy everyone engoyed it. Justin Timberlake loved it! lol

  14. 14

as a latina myself i say she did a great job. j lo is not only gorgeous but talented and did justice to those songs. ppl r saying celia would be proud. idk y the haters flock to perez's siye. you can have an opinion and not like it wout being so nasty.

Jennifer did good remember half these people don't know who was Celia Cruz so for th m it was amazing for them I think her singing wasn't the best but her dancing was good

Excellent tribute by JLo! And for the ignorant commentators here how about the dancers doing Cali, Colombia style salsa for their performance? Salsa is not about nationality it is about latin pride. And what a great tribute that a puertorican can honor a cuban dancing salsa colombian style. Also remember that haters don't count for anything. They are like invisible human beings that amount to nothing in life but acquired bad karma. They are worthless. Congratulations JLo and the masterful dancers for an electrifying performance!

Que viva Celia, indeed! (Imagine with the workout Jennifer Lopez gets as she practices her routines, likely daily, but the woman can't be accused of being thin!) Sorry for the comment, but it's the truth as I watched the video. It's difficult to stay away from the food. Wonderful tribute.

Re: Oaktown357 – You know, actually. I didn't want to comment negatively because Perecito is so proud of Jennifer, but she didn't do a good job of singing, at least that one song where she sang it so long! What kept up the excitement was the trumpets and the excellent performance of the dancers, actually. Congratulations to the dancers! Jennifer took the applause and good comments because there she was, singing and the center of it all, is my thought.

  20. 20

weird.. didn't she just learn how to sing in spanish like 4 years ago?

Celia was all about glamour, dancing and partying on super hot music. J-Lo brought that definitely back. And I applaud her for that until my fingers bleed!

  23. 23

Although I think J. Lo did a good job and brought a good mix of dance and vocals, why not someone like La India or Olga Tañon? They are also Puerto Rican and would have done the vocals more justice w/more substance. Celia Cruz had a very low tone to her voice. Now, me being Cuban, I would have much rather seen Gloria Estefan perform w/perhaps Albita. Those two would have killed it for sure.

  24. 24

    I'm sorry J LO….you're not a vocalist… Great dancer indeed.

    25

WHY, WHY,WHY, Did u have to use Jennifer???? That was plain awful, changed my channel and got sick. If it wasn't for Mark Anthony, Jennifer would not be were she is today! But now she should stay home and quik faking singing, it really showed tonite!! Go home and try being a mother to your 3 children, that includes your boyfriend.

Fun for a tribute. Her vocals aren't the strongest, but can she dance. Sizzling.

JLo stole the entire show…her tribute to Celia Cruz was moving and wonderful. Those people who are negative to her voice, nationality or what ever need to think deeper about all that it must have taken for someone of Jennifer's status to get that tribute to a Latin American Singer performed at the American Music Awards, a place where Celia Cruz herself never performed, it was a tremendo job by Ms. Lopez, as she is larger than life and has a big presence in both the English and Spanish worlds. I am grateful that she was of the mindset to pay tribute to this legend. If she kept it a Puerto Rican Thing, or a Cuban Thing, she would never have made it as an actress or an entertainer. Why would you want her to limit herself or talents. As for Celia Cruz, her voice and talents, was her beauty…she was tremendous. I went to her funeral-there were people of every color/every nation represented/can you say this for yourself. Love touches all.

this is the same lousy music that the woman upstairs would play at ear splitting levels! Is there like only one Spanish song and they throw different words in it???!!!

  30. 30

It truly was such a great performance. NO ONE can sing or perform like our Celia, however, it was awesome to have her honored, and JLo did just that. Even the best of singers and dancers cannot do justice to how Celia performed, but Jlo killed it, she has my Cuban vote!

this was amazing!! so not a "disgrace", she was honouring Celia, not impersonating her… she totally nailed it, get over it haters!

How can you guys define this amazing tribute as a disgrace? I guarantee if the AMA's called you to give the tribute you'd be right there shaking and baking too! oops I forgot they would never call you….you have no talent…you haven't won any Grammy's or starred in any big screen movies. "Cut it the heck out HATER!!!! All that matters is the cowards reaction(did you get a wind of that amazing standing ovation?)
