Perez Reviews: What's It All About?

What's It All About? could not be a more fitting question and title for the new Burt Bacharach show at the New York Theater Workshop.

Not quite a musical. Not really a concert. The production features wonderful arrangements of Bacharach songs by Kyle Riabko, a very talented and magnetic young actor/musician who also stars in the show. And the songs are brilliantly staged by director Steven Hoggett. It's all rather enjoyable but also very disappointing.

There is no plot. No dialogue or story. No takeaway (sorta).

It was rather obvious to us that the one recurring theme of Bacharach's timeless and iconic music is love. There could have been a very powerful story to tell here. Or several!

The show, as it is, also just doesn't make sense in a theater setting. It would work much better at a cabaret space or a concert venue. Let people booze it up, stand and jam out with the awesome musicians.

However, there is a real opportunity here to add a story - or stories - and turn this show into something truly special.

The potential is clearly there!

Mario you will never become a real movie, TV or Broadway critic.

You copy 99.99% of what you spew and then you do it wrong.

You have no talent or training and are just a bully who got a blog. You don't even own Perezhilton.com anymore. You are lucky they let you and your sister post.

    You are a simply bully.

Sounds like another weak attempt to cash in on someone else's music. After Momma Mia! was a hit, they tried it with Jersy Boys (Four Seasons), Movin Out (Billy Joel) and more. All were lame in my opinion, and it sounds like this one is no better. Can we get back to original works and shows with an actual book written by someone who understands storylines?
