Demi Lovato Reveals How She Would "Smuggle" Cocaine On Planes To Feed Her Drug Addiction!

We knew she was overwhelmingly consumed with her horrible addictions

But had no idea Demi Lovato's trouble with illegal drugs and alcohol ran so deep!

In a new candid interview, the 21-year-old singer is speaking out about her past substance abuse issues, confessing she used to manipulate people (including a sober companion) to believe every front and lie she threw at them. She shared:

“I’m very, very good at manipulating people and that was something that I did in my disease, I would manipulate everyone around me. There were times I would just continue to lie, so that everything looked OK on the outside."

And then Demi-corn dropped a maJOR coke bomb!

The former Disney starlet was so buried in her drug habits, she couldn't go an hour without doing cocaine!

Demz revealed how she would sneak it on airplanes and hide her issue by waiting until everyone fell asleep:

“Something I’ve never talked about before, but with my drug use I could hide it to where I would sneak drugs. I couldn’t go without 30 minutes to an hour without cocaine and I would bring it on airplanes. I would smuggle it basically and just wait until everyone in first class would go to sleep and I would do it right there. I’d sneak to the bathroom and I’d do it. That’s how difficult it got and that was even with somebody [with me], I had a sober companion, somebody who was watching me 24/7 and living with me [and] I was able to hide it from them as well.”

And if you thought that's when she hit rock bottom—you're sooo wrong!

After violently throwing up from drinking an entire soda bottle of vodka before a flight, she knew it was time to make a change:

“I was going to the airport and I had a Sprite bottle just filled with vodka and it was just nine in the morning and I was throwing up in the car and this was just to get on a plane to go back to LA to the sober living house that I was staying at…I had all the help in the world, but I didn’t want it. When I hit that moment I was like, it’s no longer fun when you’re doing it alone. I’ve really never talked about this stuff before… I don’t know if I should be sharing this."

We applaud Demi for taking a journey back, and being unbelievably open!

Since she's speaking out about an issue that plagues so many, we can only hope her honest conversations with the media triggers change for others!

You stay strong Dem-Dem!

ok…. Am I supposed to feel sorry for her? Not surprised I'll say that much. I cannot stand coke heads….how did no one realize she was coked up ALL the time? LOL

I didn't even know it was that bad. That is actually so sad. I am glad she is getting better.

Demi Lovato is only 21, which means she was doing this stuff at a VERY young age. How did she get sucked up into the world of drugs and alcohol so young? Where were her parents? Where was Disney, her employer? And what demons inside of her made her feel like she could only enjoy herself when she was high or buzzed? It's all just really sad. Glad she's in a better state now.

At the end of the day, she says stuff to stay relevant, if she didn't have jumped on the self harm train and eating disorder stuff, no one would have wanted to have known her. She's just another person who uses it to keep herself relevant, yes what she went through was bad, I know that it's serious, but when you put it out there that much you're just using it to relate to people.

She is such a lying fraud. She was a self proclaimed role model when she came out of rehab. But while being that role model she was an alcoholic who smuggled coke on planes. A felony… How she is a role model is beyond me.

  9. 9

Good for her for cleaning up her act and good for her for being able to inspire others, but I agree with some of the other commenters - she is making a career out of this. And the latest book she is peddling is a quotes from other people - yet she still makes the money. And it really bothers me that she has taken these statements out of the historical context to which they are most relevant, and made them into sound bites for sulky teenagers. Her readers would be much better off reading the entire transcript of where these quotes where ripped, as well as the historical context. Now that might actually be inspiring.

wonder what shes trying to promote now. God this girl is so getting on my nerves all i hear from her is poor me and blah blah blah. i get it you want you to make a good example to your fans but really? keep taking about your issues its been like 2 years.

@zaina you are awesome! you realized that those users have no lives! I am so glad you said something! and to everyone else… I don't like a lot of celebrities but I cant stand people who put Demi down. She seems to be the most "real" celebrity out there. cant you pick on someone like Justin Beiber?

Re: IDONTLIKEYOU – How ishe the most real when she lied to everyone about her "recovery" She said she went to rehab for cutting and eating disorders but clearly the real problemwas coke. Then when she said she was in recover and being a role model and proclaiming to be a role model, she was really smuggleing coke on to planes. She sounds like a fraud and a liar to me. Not to mention an attention whore…

  17. Zaina says – reply to this

Re: Tyrant32 – She did go for an eating disorder and cutting too.

  18. 18

Re: Tyrant32 – Exactly beat me to the point, how can she be real when shes lied, all she's doing is saying this stuff so people keep her talked about, if it wasn't for her putting her personal life out there like she always does, no one would give a damn she'd still be in Disney. & to the other person, people put her down due to the fact that she's a liar and fraud, this woman tries to relate to people in the worst way to earn money off people aka the self harm and body image problem, a lot of girls out there have issues, hell all of us do, but she's milking it so hard, and the fact that it's making her own fans realize that, that's why people who even looked up to her once, such as myself, say this stuff. At first she didn't seem that bad, and I actually felt bad, but shes just milking it to the extreme now and it's becoming a bore.

Re: Zaina – But I jut dont understand how if she is such a great person how she acts like a role modle after rehab but is lying and is a fraud of one. Girls would tell her how she has inspired them and then 20 mins later she is smuggling cocaine on an airplane. She is a fraud

  22. imisstheoldperez says – reply to this

I'm just glad shes actually getting into specifics and saying the things that she did instead of vaguely implying she had an eating disorder or something. Seems way more honest and realistic than the stuff she was sprouting before, and I think that makes her message more effective as well.

its sad that you guys cant see how she can be "inspiring". She has the courage to come out and admit secrets in public after all she already has gone through. yeah im 23 years old and im sticking up for Demi because I "get" her

  25. beatingadeadhorse says – reply to this

It was really inspiring in the beginning…now its overkill. The fact that she keeps dropping extra details about her hard times in increments makes me question her sincerity. Britney did one tell-all special, then Moved on. She didn't resurface the story every few years with an "Oh yea! I was also an extacy addict!" (year goes by) "And another thing! i DID cheat on justin…as a matter a fact, I was a WHOOORE" lmao…i got a lil dramatic but yee you the idea :P

  26. aww says – reply to this

To the people who say Demi sounds like a broken record, you are WRONG. She never spoke about how serious her addictions were, and from this interview, we learn that they were WAY worse than anyone had expected. She is saying this because she does not want people to be shocked when her memoir comes out, which will be huge if she does not slowly reveal her dark past. After rehab on Ellen, she actually admitted that SHE HAD RELAPSED, but she is trying. She said something along the lines, " I cannot say I did not throw up or experiment with drugs after rehab, but I can say i'm trying everyday to fight " Of course it was more general than that. She is just honest and has been CLEAN FOR ONE YEAR AND A HALF!!!! Congratulations Demi on being sober for almost 2 years now, and KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! love ya

  27. 27

Re: Chelsea23 – I was a teenage addict as well. People like to blame the parents and say insensitive things about it. But the fact is it's relatively easy to get drugs, and being a celebrity it's definitely easier.
In school, I would ditch and go to my friend's house who lived right across the street from the school and get high. Then I would walk back to school and take the bus home. My school never contacted the parents to inform them that their kids ditched so I got away with it for a while.
I did some pretty terrible things in those days. And it was easy to do whatever I wanted because my parents both worked late.
And honestly, parents can only do so much. You can get drugs no matter where they put you. It's about you wanting to quit and wanting to stay on the right path.
Eventually I knew I had to get help. And even though I'm clean, it's still a struggle. And I completely understand why Demi talks about her problems so openly. I also need to talk about it and tell my story. When I tell the story it makes me forget about the cravings and it makes me think how horrible it actually was and how much better I feel now.

Re: lalalla – or she is putting it out there to help other people. to motivate and encourage them to seek support. to remove some of the stigma from mental health and drug addiction and abuse…. maybe she is using the platform she is already on to make change… rather than trying to climb to the top of some popularity pyramid….

  29. 29

Re: sarah – Yeah she might be, but it's people like you who believe everything people put out there. They'll do anything to get you to buy their tracks, making you think their such an inspiration. I looked up to her so much when I was a bit younger now all she does is rave on about all this stuff.

Those of you who are sticking up for her are so naïve. Her first thought is money and success. And if she can achieve all of that and help girls along the way she will. The timing of this interview is interesting considering her new single neon lights flopped and hasn't charted at all. The fact that she acted like she was all sober during her stay strong documentary is funny. Stay strong while I go and smuggle cocaine on an airplane and do lines while old rich people are sleeping. Nice

  34. 34

Re: rosebud99 – Rosebud99 I actually respect your opinion because unlike most posters on here you gave your opinion without being crude and disrespectful. Like others said I think this was sparked from the Joe Jonas interview and the upcoming memoir that is happening because she has a 2 book deal with her publisher and the quote book she has out now is #1 on the NY Best Seller List - self help. I have the book and already have read the quotes from most of the original sources but it is her take on the quotes and her many original quotes that make the book so inspiring. Before everyone claims I am a crazy lovatic teenager with her own issues let me just say that I am an adult with many of the same issues Demi has had and just wish I would have been been able to overcome them at the age she did.

  35. 35

Re: JustSaying1 – I am happy to hear that her book inspires you. Maybe try Malala's book too - also inspirational.

    Re: Z – (thanks)

  36. 36

Re: rosebud99 – Thanks I have heard of Malala's story and many props and much respect for her, I will check outr the book. I was just wanting to point out that even though many people think Demi fans are naive suckers, some people can actually relate to her and like her as a songwriter/artist.

Re: Chelsea23 – What demons? It's called an addiction, and it can happen to anyone. Young people are notorious for trying new things. Some of those things lead to addiction. Sheesh. Demons..

  41. 41

Re: lalalla – She is using herself as an example at the fact that you can succeed and overcome it, and lead a better life. That is her reason for speaking out about it. To influence other young people who are struggling with addiction, eating disorders, and bullying. She is an internationally famous person, she can make a bigger difference doing that than any of us, whose voices aren't heard to that scale.

  42. Will says – reply to this

Are you fucking kidding me? I'm a huge fan of her but you can already tell she was on drugs by her singing. She sounded like she was on drugs. Everybody thought just because she went into rehab, she was clean from her drug problems.

  43. 43

hey let's not be judgemental.. she never said when she had cocaine addiction right? maybe it was the time when she was also smoking weed as what Joe said on his interview.. that was way long ago and she was starting a new life, a better one.. I am not saying this because I am a Lovatic, but let's show respect to her and be considerate.. and the point here is she stopped using it and was continuing to make her life well.. yes she lied, but if she was not famous would you care about how she lied? her issues? no. you were also the one's who were making her more famous because of this so let's drop this and move on..

  44. 44

and another thing, she never brought up this issue to be more famous, it was Joe who brought this up, just saying. she did this interview because people would want to know if this is true and that is what she gave you, she told the whole thing.. if Joe never did that interview or even said her name on that freaking interview, this issue would not be brought up.. think guys..

  45. Em says – reply to this

I have been following up on Demi Lovato ever since she broke into Disney and when she came out of rehab she DID admit it was for self harm, alcohol and "abuse." Abuse obviously meant drugs, she just wasn't ready to share all of that just yet. She has admitted previously that drugs were thrown at her when she went to parties so it was all very easy to fall into.
You guys are so damn stupid, and I'm PRETTY SURE hypocrites too. I'm positive most of you losers bashing her have experimented with drugs before. And she isn't asking people to feel sorry for her. She's trying to share her story and help others get through the same problems.
Mental illness, which is what caused all of this,is no laughing matter. Be as rude and ignorant as you want. I suggest you research depression and bipolar disorder and realize what it can do to a person. You're all heartless. And NOT perfect. YOU try being in the spotlight.

  48. 48

  49. Aimee says – reply to this

GAAAHHH! everyday I hear her talk about her "PROBLEMS". Stop using your past to stay relevant in the present. she is so talented but the fact that she ALWAYYYYSSSS uses her addictions in the past to stay relevant and sites claiming "SHOCKING NEWS". She constantly talks about how her life changed blah blah blah. we get it. do something new. stop using your past all the fucking time to sell your albums. I am not saying what she went through wasn't difficult and hard, it was and its inspiring to see her much more healthier and happy but she needs to just stop using that to sell her albums. its getting too repetitive and for someone who has always been a fan of her music, its really a turn off.

Re: Aimee – thank you!!! and your a fan and see that, so i thank you again. i try telling people but i just get hate comments at me. its annoying with demi when something new is coming out for her or shes going to be on something she starts talking about her past and brings up more and more. its like we get and your fans get it you had a rough life. some people do. if you keep talking about some people are gonna get bored with you

  52. 52

I can't even bring a can of coke on board, how can she manage to get cocaine on a plane? All these retarded starlettes, it's kinda getting too much..Just because you label bad behaviour with the word 'addiction' does not excuse your actions. I think addictions are the fault of the addict. If you have a week enough constitution to try the drug for the first time, then all that happens after is your fault.

This girl I am sure has had a lot to deal with as far as her addiction has gone, and I am glad she is sharing her story even if it helps a few it is a positive thing. However I am getting sick of seeing her. I just don't think she can sing, and not only that her music just sucks. I think she has not a lot of talent and its more being around the right people and right places at the right times

  54. a new something says – reply to this

As far as the article goes…I don't care how much she talks about it because she literally has saved peoples' lives and I think that's worth the hate she gets.

Re: gahhh – I'm not a teenager, actually…You're missing the point, though. The summary of your comment was basically "shut up cus i don't agree with u!!!!!", which is undeniably immature and stupid. So it's like someone throwing a shit fit because someone said something that goes against their own thoughts which I've seen countless kids do on the internet but rarely an actual adult. Hence why I said graduate from your diaper which you really need to

I bet you didn't know that she dumped white out in a girls hair? Or stole a girls clothes while she was in gym class? All you know is what she wants you to know "poor me I was bullied, poor me I did drugs". Demi would go to house parties and just act like straight up trash. My friend (at the same party) simply made eye contact with her and demi goes "No, you can't have an autograph". She's an awful person who just wants $$$$!

She hated being called a role model for that exact reason. She admitted that. Another reason why she said she went to rehab because she couldnt stand being called a role model while doing all that stuff. & also, its hard not "milking" her issues when shes a public eye.

kiddies…plz, go out and do coke, do it a bunch of times, get hooked and then try and stop. You have no idea what kind of control it has over you. And, she can act all high and mighty because she eventually quit. She didn't end up like Lindsay Lohan going to rehab 7 or 8 times and then showing up to hotel parties with tons of coke and alcohol at retard hours of the morning and then claim that she wasn't there for the booze and drugs and claiming to be sober. Her actions NOW are what matters. She isn't a fraud. Drug addiction makes you lie. It makes you a monster.

  78. MD says – reply to this

Hi There! you all make good points in your comments. Please forgive my following tangent, I promise you there is a point to it. I am very impressed with Demi's honesty, it takes a lot of courage to talk about these things. Most people don't understand that by not talking about them, it makes them harder to treat (one day cure, hopefully). It isn't her fault necessarily, nobody asks for these disorders. Just like nobody asks for measels, or strep throat, or diabetes, or heart disease. Eating Disorders, depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, all of them have a chemical, genetic, biological basis. They affect another part of the body, the brain. Though the choices she made, partying, drinking, drugs no doubt just made the disorder worse as it does with all illnesses. The brain chemistry is thrown off chemically, and adding drugs (illegal ones) worsens it.
I can understand why some people don't talk about it, it's not exactly a pleasant subject to discuss. There's a lot of old deep seated fears and attitudes out there regarding mental health. Many of them are based on misinformation, sensationalism, old stereotypes. but the more stigma there is, the farther away we go from any sort of treatment or cure. The difference is astronomical when you think about how much more we know medically in the 21st century, versus in the 18th century or even earlier than that.

Re: beatingadeadhorse – She has "only" been sober since march 15 2012. That is her sober date. So I get she couldnt talk about her struggles with drugs and alcohol until she had dealt with it herself. And her talking about it may help other peolpe but I think it helps her more then anything. It minimizes the lying. If she dont have to lie to people and keep secrets It is a huge burden lifted.

  81. natta says – reply to this

Re: beatingadeadhorse – Also just cause you know about her issues doesnt mean the 10 million new fans knows about it. And also, yes, she drops new things but not really. She has said she had issues with drugs and alcohol in the past but never how bad they were. Obviously she hadnt dealt with those issues so how could she be honest to the world about it when she couldnt even be honest with herself? Her now openly saying she is an addict just shows how far she has come and how self aware she is. Its a major step in her recovery. And how relaxing must it be for her not having to lie or talk around an issue or a question and just answer it honestly. Her being honest with the world and herself is actually amazing to watch. And if your dont have an understanding for people with addiction issues, a huge understanding you will sadly but its so true, You will never understand her or why she has to continue to talk about it. She is a public person so her doing that in public will keep her from having to lie or hide things. Addicts should never have to hide anything or keep anything from anyone cause that is just putting fuel on a fire and can spark a relapse very easy.
