Demi Lovato Opens Up About Her Eating Disorder & Reveals Family Issues With Food And Mental Health!

| Filed under: Demi LovatoEating DisordersFamily

We're still extremely proud of Demi Lovato for being sooo open and honest about the dark phase in her life!

And since dropping the cocaine smuggling bomb yesterday, the singer figured she'd take her truthfulness and roll with it!

The X Factor judge confessed new details about her debilitating eating disorder—including how her mother and grandmother suffered from many similar symptoms and mental health issues, which influenced her food choices at a young age.

Demi's mom, Dianna Hart, revealing:

“I had issues I needed to work on as well because I wasn’t setting a good example for her. I had a terrible eating disorder that I had for many, many years and I didn’t realize it and I had to face up to the fact that I was suffering as well. And a lot of what [Demi] went through with an eating disorder had to do with what she had seen growing up and I also had severe depression and I ended up asking for help actually they did an intervention with me and said, ‘Mom, you need to get help.’"

Demi-corn was also candid about her issues with food, describing the exact stages of her disorder:

“It was always there, but then I just acted on it at around 8 or 9 years old. I started overeating, compulsively overeating. I would bake cookies and then eat the whole pan. I went from doing that to being unhappy with my body. I went to just completely starving myself and that turned into throwing up and starving myself and it was just this crazy battle going on inside of me. It got really difficult [and] I would throw up and it would just be blood and it was something that I realized if I don’t stop this, I am going to die.”

Demi goes on to mention certain trigger foods like pasta and hamburgers that may make her feel guilty after consuming.

These days, the Neon Lights singer stays away from those items to try and maintain her zen level of mental health!

Both of the ladies explained that sharing their issues with one another has brought them closer as a family—and we think it's wonderful!

Ch-ch-check out the full interview (above) where Demz goes into deep detail about her addiction!

She literally only talks about her "issues" when she needs to sell something or when people aren't talking about her. It was inspiring at first, but now it's getting to the point where she's milking it for all it's worth. Instead of being known for recovering, she's just going to be known for her problems, because she can't seem to make press or have a career without telling about them (X Factor will not last and her albums aren't selling, compared to others.) If she really wants to be a role model, tell everything at once and move on. You've cut yourself, made yourself throw up, had depression, alcoholism and a drug addiction, and have been to rehab. Nothing else can shock us. Stop giving little "truth bombs" every six months when you have something with your name attached is on sale. Move forward to show your fan base that you can. Don't linger on the past to make a profit or to keep your star shining. It cheapens you.

Re: Jake – you need to get your facts straight… she has never been more successful like she is now… this interview wasn't necessary for her "selling" career, it was necessary for her recovery, it was time to clear some rumors that she wasn't ready to talk about before, and thank god she is now, the truth always comes out, and it's better for her if it's herself telling, rather than any other person. she doesn't need to sell anything atm, Xfactor is pretty much done this year for her, her album sold great, and the single came out pretty damn good, everyone was talking about her already, she didn't need this interview! She needed to do this for herself, admitting and talking is a great step for recovery, and she wants to be a role model for her fans, she said she would talk about this when she was ready, and it was time. And like she said, i don't think is over yet… we don't know about this world, there's a lot of things we don't know about people who knows what's coming next? she's an amazing human being who has gone through a lot, way more that a lot people in their life times so let's just leave her alone, and hope she keeps up good and healthy.

Re: ana – shut up. if she wasnt on x factor, her album wouldve done worse than it did, which shes just NOW breaking into a million copies sold, which took her other albums YEARS to do. she sells singles, and even her singles dont chart well. her albums have never been critially acclaimed and any awards she has won have NEVER been any big awards and they have only been fan voted. shes telling this story because she has a book to sell. when x factor is cancelled or they get a bigger star to take her place and she doesnt have cameras all over her again, she will put out another interview like this. because if she did this "for herself" she wouldve just done an interview, without having to mention a book she "wrote" that she wants to sell. or she couldve told everyone everything the FIRST time she wanted to come clean- but she needed ammo for when it suited her. youre giving her too much credit. Re: Jake – and i agree.

why is it that 99% of the comments on this website are from such negative, nasty people? Usually people who dont have the balls to say stuff to your face-but make all this noise anonymously because noone knows who they are. i feel sorry for their husbands/wives-having to put up with all that negativity…ugh

I'm proud of her coming clean with her issues. And as for the comments about her confessions being publicity stunts, well even if it is.. at least she's not doing the Miley thing!

Re: Jake – OK. All that stupid shit you're saying about her just proves you've never been through anything that hard in your lives. If you guys knew anything about how FUCKING HARD everything is you wouldn't be commenting that kind of bullshit. "She's doing it to sell her book" BITCH PLEASE if all she cared about was her career she wouldn't have founded the Lovato fundation and her book would have been more expensive. It was only $11. "She should've told everything at once" REALLY? You're just an ignorant motherfucker, it's not like you can get recovered from everything all at once. It takes a lot of time and effort. It's really hard to accept everything herself and way fucking harder to accept it to the rest of the world so stop being assholes because you don't know how hard it is. She's just trying to do some good in this screwed up world and trying to avoid people like you from bringing the good people down. When you guys go through anything as hard as that, we'll have this conversation again and I'm positive you won't be saying the same.
