Who knew sweet pop darling Ariana Grande would EVER be caught in a scandal??!
The petite starlet with the crazy pipes — along with her crew at Sony/ATV and UMG Recordings— has been slammed with a lawsuit for copyright infringement over The Way!
Minder Music is claiming that the mega-hit stole the line, "What we gotta do right here is go back, back into time," from The Jimmy Castor Bunch's 1972 song Troglodyte.
Never heard of it? Us either.
While the band of yesteryear's line actually goes, "What we’re gonna do right here is go back, way back, back into time,” lawyers are still insisting that they are "substantially similar" in not only words, but enunciation, and placement in the composition.
So how does Minder want to be compensated by the alleged copy cat situation??!
The label is asking for $150,000 PLUS legal fees.
We're not sure WHAT to think about this.
The phrases are indeed similar, but can ONE line really merit copyright protection?!
We'll let the judge and jury decide!
Thankfully, the defendants have the adorbzies Ariana on their side. We doubt ANYONE could take one look at that little charming face and call her guilty!
