Amazon Sides With Target! Won’t Sell Beyoncé’s New Album Online

| Filed under: Music MinuteBeyonceBusiness BlitzTarget

beyonce album cd not being sold by amazon

But what about all of those Amazon Prime users?! How will they get their CD in two days with free shipping?!?

You may recall that after Beyoncé’s iTunes exclusive on her new album, Target chose not to carry her CD in their stores.

Well, Amazon.com has joined them!

The company will be selling the electronic MP3 version of Beyoncé , but not the actual CD. Also, you’re going to have to search for it in Amazon’s system because they’re not advertising it.

Seems like a silly way to make money, no?

However, independent users on Amazon are selling the CD, so you CAN still get it there.

This seems to be a bigger issue than just Queen Bey’s album though; it has to do with Sony Music Entertainment.

Apparently, they usually let pre-sales happen even when another company has an exclusive, which has been great for marketing, but even that couldn’t be done this time. And it means that Amazon may not be so eager to sell any other Sony records in the future!

This isn’t the first time Sony has done an exclusive with a company like Apple, and reportedly they make up for it to other businesses with incentives… but not in this case.

It makes sense that companies would be irritated about the exclusive, but this has to be hurting their sales in the end, which is no bueno for anyone!

my co-worker's aunt makes $74/hr on the internet. She has been fired from work for 7 months but last month her pay check was $19596 just working on the internet for a few hours.

It'll hurt Sony Music the most. Amazon is diversified enough were it doesn't really matter to them. Beyonce…same. She has a lot of stuff to sell, not just albums and let's face it she doesn't really make that much $ on album royalties. Sony Music only sells music. They don't sell anything other than albums and singles. So this is no bueno for them.

Too much corporate manipulation for exclusive market control, and it's not even their product. They are end retailers, so they should retail. They either want to bank the mark up or they don't. I can't blame artists to try to maximize their sales and control their own dissemination of their own product.

Re: shaygirl1309 – She does what she does, and has been doing it for years, and no foam finger involved. Tina did it before that. Buy it or don't.

Re: @v@ – I have better taste, no hump hump and no foam finger either. enjoy, hump hump

Re: shaygirl1309 – She actually seemed to sometimes mixed in with the hip shimmy in those shoooort skirts with the gyrating fringes, but maybe not. Saw her live with Ike, live again after she left him, and again in the Simply The Best comeback. They broke the mold.

Re: shaygirl1309 – Checked back on youtube, and think you're right, it was a sideways hippy hippy shake shimmy.

I think she is doing great either way. Her real supporters already got it on iTunes and as of today….other retailers. I am disappointed in Target and Amazon…it is very petty…and quite stupid on their part. Beyoncé was a big partner during her 4 era…and even released one of her concert DVD's first only at Target for a week then nationwide….I just don't get it. There has to be something bigger to the reason…

A company like Amazon doesn't need to worry about it's sales being hurt by not stocking one CD. This IS amazon, it wont even be a scratch in their revenue.

Good! Makes me feel better about being an Amazon Prime member. Who cares about Beyonce & her manipulative marketing ways. I don't trust ANY numbers about that girl. Lord knows what the ones pulling the strings behind her did to twerk things to make her look favorable. Everybody I know thinks she's old & tried & are in desperate desire for some real talent for once. Beyonce is 'Been There Done That'… next please.

So what! No one cares she has ALREADY sold thousandsssssss of copies on itunes. So that wasn't a great marketing strategy on Target's behalf or Amazon's behalf……. Beyonce proved herself when she walked in Walmart and treated their customers. So guess what people are going to shop at Walmart hoping to run across her again. WALMART wins again, smart move Walmart for selling Beyonce's album….

I think that as a businesswoman and someone who loves her work, Beyonce would care about sales and the market. The record label would certainly care. I also don't quite understand what someone meant by "real supporters"? Is that code for fanatic? I guess I'm just a consumer who spend part of my budget on entertainment.
