Robert Mawhinney isn't the first struggling artist who relocated to El Lay in the hopes of becoming a rock star, there are literally busloads of them moving to town each week!
So what sets the Lights Over Paris frontman apart from the rest? Well, it isn't the band's talent, unfortunately! They wanted to be the next Blink-182, but that never panned out!
Robert did accomplish something else, however. He successfully stole a total of $11 million in loans from a bunch of different banks! Wowzers!! That's so much money!!!
Apparently he forged a bunch of documents, tricked the banks into giving him loans, and then used all the money to party like a rockstar in Los Angeles and record music with The Game!
Whoa, that's cray!!!
Robert's success was short lived, though. He was eventually caught and then pled guilty to four different felony counts of "making false statements," and then he was sentenced to seven years in prison!
Cameras caught up to Robert in prison and he was able to tell his side of the story, to explain his regrets.
"The thing I regret is…kind of losing control. My lifestyle…it was crazy, and I was hoping deep down that I could rectify the situation and…pay these things back."
Live and learn!
We just can't believe he got away with it for so long!
