Melissa Etheridge is fighting for LGBT rights in Russia!
The singer-songwriter has been so angered by the nation’s new anti-gay laws that she sat down and wrote an AH-Mazing song!
It’s not about how wrong Russia’s treatment of the LGBT community has been though, but rather a call for unity! A call for peace! And of course, a call for love!
Melissa’s single is titled Uprising of Love and is a total anthem for freedom! We LOVE it!
She’s also started a human rights coalition by the same name, which has gotten support from a TON of celebs so far, including Madonna, James Franco, Julianne Moore, Cyndi Lauper, and Edward Norton.
Melissa broke down what the words in Uprising of Love mean to her on a personal level, sharing:
"The lyrics of 'Uprising of Love' came from such a personal and passionate spot in my soul and I'm more than excited to share this anthem with the world. Love is intangible and unpredictable, but it's the one feeling that is universally experienced and desired by all.”
Sing it, sister!
