In the television fan justice system, SVU-based offenses are considered especially heinous. This is Mariska Hargitay's story! DUN DUN!
That's right, Mariska was a victim, in a very special way, of possibly the WORST backhanded compliment ever!
While dishing with Chelsea Handler on Chelsea Lately, Mariska talked about how while out to dinner with her husband Peter on a vacation in the Caribbean, a Law & Order: SVU fan told her she looked like a younger, prettier version of herself:
"We go out to dinner to Nobu, and Peter gets up to use the restroom for a second, and this woman - awesome - leans over and she goes, 'you look exactly like that woman on Law & Order.' She goes, 'But you're much younger, and much prettier.' And so I'm sitting there and going, you know, I'm trying to suss out if she's pulling my leg, or if she's doing shtick with me or if she's serious. So I said, 'Really?' and she said, 'Yes,' and she goes, 'much younger!' And I'm going like, 'Wow, should I be offended?' I said, 'Really? Much younger and prettier?' She goes, 'She's a little long in the tooth.' I said, 'Well, how old do you think she is?' And she goes, 'She's got to be pushing 60.' And I'm sitting there going, 'Wow, you said that out loud, and that's a little risky.' I ended up talking to her for a while, my husband came back, never told her, and then in the end…we picked up her tab and said, 'Tell her Detective Benson just paid her meal.' It was awesome."
Sometimes justice is oh so sweet!
Detective Benson: 1! Fan with poor facial recognition: -2342384! SRSLY! We hope she never gets put in front of a lineup!
While we're still waiting for this fan to confess to this crime, we hope she learned her lesson!
