McDonald’s Fires Employee After She Spends Over $100 Of Her Own Money To Buy Breakfast For Firefighters! R U Serious?!

ronald mcdonald fired employee edit

Ba-da-ba-ba-ba! I’m lovin’ it! You’re fired!!!

That's what 8-year McDonald's employee Heather Levia heard when she showed up at work this week! The fast food giant terminated the 23-year-old single mother of twins after she bought food for some local firefighters!

As a morning shift manager, Heather thought she could help show her appreciation for a group of firefighters who had been battling a house fire in sub-zero temperatures! When they came into her restaurant, she offered to buy them breakfast!

The crew ordered 25 sandwiches and hash browns that all came out to a bill of $83. But it was Heather who picked up the tab with her own money!

Soon after, another department ordered $70 worth of food so the hardworking woman sent her boss a text asking if the company could pick up the check on this order. Free food for police and fire workers was common practice at her restaurant, according to Heather.

Her boss, however, refused!

Heather even went so far as to call the corporate office to ask permission but the answer was still no!

So, Heather and her co-workers paid once AGAIN for the firefighters' meals!

Did you get all that? Fast food worker willing to buy some local heroes a free meal, but the billion dollar company was NOT!

The next day, Heather showed up to work and was promptly given the boot! The giant, red Ronald McDonald boot!

But why was she fired?!

The company claims Heather swore at her superior but she says that's just not true!

Heather explained:

"I did say this is ‘freaking’ ridiculous. But it was not implied to anybody. It’s just wrong. I wish the communities would change and help each other out. I wish that things didn’t have to be the way they are. And if losing my job is going to speak out to the community, then that’s what it’s going to do.”

Um, this IS freaking ridiculous! We think Heather should not only be able to keep her job, she should be employee of the month!

Firing a caring, kind, and LOYAL employee after 8 years? For shame, McD's!

It's your loss though! Heather says she's already gotten several offers to go work elsewhere!

Way to go, gurl!

Ch-ch-check out the video (below) to hear Heather's full story!

A $9.00 an hour McDonalds worker should not be spending her hard earned money on firemen who make over $100,000.00 per year.

I feel sorry for this girl who was fired… BUT…. The fireman SHOULD NOT have accepted the free food. They make lots of money and have an incredible retirement package.

Regardless, I don't think this was right on McDonald's part. For God's sake, they charge per sauce packet! (at least here in AZ they do.) They are the most uptight company I have come to know. They need to loosen their panties a bit. Then again, I guess this is why they are a multi million dollar company. Disgusting.

they slave work their workers and don't pay them well they suck

Re: FiremanFreeloaders – Nice gesture but I totally agree with you. Once she showed how even not so wealthy can afford to give, the fireman should say thank you and politely refuse the charity. Even better THEY should moneypool and buy the underpaid workers of this particular establishment some nice McDonalds desert :D Not only fireman, policeman, or other public servants can be heroes. Most people work hard to care for others as well as themselves, including putting their lives in jeopardy. I don't see them being called heroes, though.

Re: Bella2u2 – yeah they are heroes. Especially if they are risking their lives to save assholes like you.

She was in her right to spend her own hard earned money as a token of appreciation for civil workers risking their lives in subzero temps, but that second department def abused her kindness! a-holes

I called Tom Meyers the owner of that Mc Donalds and I let him know what I thought of his position. Now I recommend that if you are upset about this give the office a call in the morning.
I live in LA and there is no longer free refill….how many zero do we all really need?

Re: Monty – What's his number? I would love to call from the west coast… woo hoo, 3 hours time difference.

Re: FiremanFreeloaders – First of all, firemen do not make $100,000 a year. Maybe the fire chief, but the ones who are actually risking their lives make about $35,000 starting out and can make up to $50,000. Yes, they do earn a pension and get pretty good benefits, but they put their lives on the line EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. Civil servants do not get the credit they deserve or the respect they deserve.
On that note, as a mother I know that I would NEVER in a million years pick up the tab for anyone unless I had the money and I knew that my kids wouldn't suffer because of it.

She tried to take a little incentive and pay it forward. Micky D's paid her backward.
    Boycotting them starting now.

They treat their staff so badly that about 15 years ago, a small group of people actually started a group called The McDonalds Workers Resistance. This company actively seeks to underpay it's staff on a rota basis, and will only pay your full wage if you count your hours and speak up. They are thieves.

McDonalds is not a charitable institution. This subordinate made a decision to institute a policy at her location that differs from company policy. She was insubordinate and probably should have been fired. You may not know the whole story.

  15. FUCK MCDONALDS says – reply to this

Re: Michael Scott – " Free food for police and fire workers was common practice at her restaurant, according to Heather." It doesn't say shit about her instituting the policy. Learn to read and understand what you're reading before you comment and make yourself look stupid.

Imagine you are there as this is going down:
She announces her intentions to have corporate buy their lunch to everyone.
She complains to the customers/ employees when she was told the first no.
Tells everyone in the restaurant "can you believe… ".
She furthers the mob mentality when she was told the second no by corporate.
Asks all the employes to help pay. Employes who make little as it is.

She puts McDonald's on the spot then bad mouths them in their restaurant when she didn't get her way.

I would have fired her as well.

  17. mlyjn says – reply to this

I have a hard time believing this is the whole story, sorry. I've never worked for them, but it would be very surprising to me that McDonald's would fire a long-serving staff over swearing at a superior, unless there's a specific rule about it. That kind of thing is usually a verbal or written warning. It's sad that they won't extend the gesture once in a while to give free meals to firefighters, I will agree with that.

the Allegany NY fire dept. is a volunteer fire dept…… not the great pay and benefits some of you think

  19. CF says – reply to this

Our fire department in our town also is not paid. They have to go to school, be trained and work just like anyone else but because we are a town of 4,000 we can't afford pay, so they are all volunteer. Not everyone is out there making the big bucks, so not only are they not paid, there is no pension at the end of it for them. They all have to have other jobs, some work at McDonalds…

    Ellen should know about this!

    Re: LookAtTheOtherSide
OH. So you were there? You sure paint a picture like you were. No where in this article or in the video does it say all that. You don't know what happened at that establishment after she was told no. I worked at McDonalds in high school and it was common for us to pay for police, fire fighters, EMTs, and even the food delivery people's meals. I too had to call my superiors if they happened to not be in the store at that time. They never said no. It was always ok. I'm sure she was a little frustrated because they had done this in the past. But I doubt she went on a tirade and started a revolution in the restaurant. Don't exaggerate the story to make it her fault. She gave these people 8 years of her life.

to the stupid people who talk crap about our civil service personnel next time, your house is on fire, your being robbed or about to be murdered, or your on the ground with a broke leg or in need of medical help dont call the "freeloaders or the a$$holes" to save your sorry asses

Re: Yvette – (post#7)Actually it would be I who would be saving their assholes when they get themselves hurt while trying to save others. So shut up "Yvette", and stick your right mindedness deep into your a–hole. As I said, we are all heroes, but we don't take advantage of people simply because we happen to wear our uniform and basically "stick" into their face who we are. Modesty has been forgotten by many, unfortunately, but hey the right minded people like you are popping up everywhere! Go out there save someone's ass and don't boast about it. Then, I may even respect you or your idiotic comment.

    Re: FiremanFreeloaders

Not all fire-fighters are paid in the US. There are a hell of a lot that do their job for free.

    Re: FiremanFreeloaders

The fireman in that town are all volunteer, they don't make a dime fighting fires.
