Alec Baldwin has pretty much decided that he's not famous anymore, not for a performance art piece, like his former co-star, but for, like, real.
In a pretty lengthy essay for New York Magazine, Alec has declared that he's leaving the public spotlight and won't be discussing his personal life, ever, in the future.
Among many, many points and explanations in the essay, it boils down to Alec thinking that the media has changed entirely from when he started his life in the spotlight.
And he's not happy with that change.
"Now I don’t want to be Mr. Show Business anymore. I want the same thing everybody else wants. I want a happy home, and for the first time in my adult life, I have one. I love my wife more than anything in the world and I love my child more than anything else in the world and I don’t want that to change in any way.
I've lived this for 30 years, I'm done with it. I'm aware that it's ironic that I'm making this case in the media, but this is the last time I'm going to talk about my personal life in an American publication ever again…I haven't changed, but public life has…Now I loathe and despise the media in a way I did not think possible. Paparazzi today are part of a network that includes the Huffington Post and, much to my dismay, even NBC News, in their reliance on tabloid reporting."
At least he's aware of the irony that he has to write an essay in a VERY public setting to say that he doesn't want to be a public figure anymore.
To help with this newfound anti-public eye stance, Alec believes that a change of location is due.
"I just can't live in New York anymore. Everything I hated about L.A. I'm beginning to crave. L.A. is a place where you live behind a gate, you get in a car, your interaction with the public is minimal. I used to hate that. But New York has changed."
While we wish Alec luck in his quest for a more secluded life, we'll have to wait and see if he can stick to his word on this one!
Shia said he was retiring and a couple days later his name was attached to a HUGE new movie project!
Let's hope, for Alec's sanity, that he can keep his word and not get himself into any more scandals !
