Angelina Jolie spent years searching for a story inspiring enough to make into a film. Little did she know, she had an AH-Mazing movie just waiting to be told right in her own backyard!

Her upcoming flick Unbroken is the A-lister’s second shot at directing and will be released later this year. It tells the story of former Olympic champion and World War II hero Louis Zamperini who survived the unthinkable while stranded at sea off the coast of Asia!

But it wasn’t until after she heard about Louis’ harrowing tale that Angie also discovered her 97-year-old subject happened to be her neighbor!

Jolie explained:

"I've been sitting in my room laying there thinking, 'What am I supposed to be doing with my life? I wanna do something important. I need some help. I need some guidance. Where is it?' And it was right outside my window."

What a coincidence!

The two are now as close as can be, greeting each other with hugs, kisses and, ‘I love yous.’

Aw!

They both sat down with Tom Brokaw to discuss Unbroken and the incredible life that Louis has had, which includes meeting Adolf Hitler AND escaping from a Japanese POW prison!

It sounds like Angelina found the story she was looking for!

Ch-ch-check out their adorable interview together on the Today show…AFTER THE JUMP!!!

Sounds good and if he is 97 she should ask him about his WWII experiences if he is willing to talk about it. Glad to hear about her doing something positive for a change.

What??????!!!!!! Are you kidding Teeter Totter?? "Glad to hear about her doing something positive for a change?" Haven't you been in touch with the world the past 5 years? She's helped refugees by the millions by making the world aware of their plight, she's helped bring to the forefront even more, women's breast cancer. I could go on but it sounds like you've been living in la-la land! Better wake up if you can't even see this. I can't wait for this movie — I know it's going to be brilliant and truly admire Mr. Zamperini.

For someone with six kids to look after she spends a lot of time alone thinking. I wonder what the secret is. Why does she keep doing contradictory things! She does not speak to her own father and the poor man barely knows the name of his grandchildren. Yet, here she is all cozy with an elderly man, not her father. With all due respect to him, this is crazy. Does she not know how damaging it is to her kids to cut off relations with their grandparents. Many actors at the Golden Globes had their parents in attendance showing support. Jolie was a no show for her father on that day. Let's see how many celebrities have their parents at the Oscars tonight. Let's see how this crazy one clings by the finger nails to recognition at all costs. This woman needs some serious help.
